Abstract F region vertical drifts ( V z ) are the result of the interaction between ionospheric plasma with the zonal electric field and the Earth's magnetic field. Abrupt variations in V z are strongly associated with the occurrence of plasma irregularities (spread F) during the nighttime periods. These irregularities are manifestations of space weather in the ionosphere's environment without necessarily requiring a solar burst. In this context, the Brazilian Space Weather Study and Monitoring Program (Embrace) of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) has been developing different indexes to analyze these ionospheric irregularities in the Brazilian sector. Therefore, the main purpose of this work is to produce a new ionospheric scale based on the analysis of the ionospheric plasma drift velocity, named AV. It is based on the maximum value of V z ( V z p ), which in turn is calculated through its relationship with the virtual height parameter, h ′ F , measured by the Digisonde Portable Sounder (DPS-4D) installed in São Luís (2 ∘ S, 44 ∘ W; dip: − 2.3 ∘ ). This index quantifies the time relationship between the V z peak and the irregularity observed in the ionograms. Thus, in this study, we analyzed 7 years of data, between 2009 and 2015, divided by season in order to construct a standardized scale. The results show there is a delay of at least 15 min between the V z p observation and the irregularity occurrence. Finally, we believe that this proposed index allows for evaluating the impacts of ionospheric phenomena in the space weather environment.

Abstract This work aimed to study the effect of the temperature on the seed germination and to describe the morphology and germination process of disseminules (seeds with stucked endocarp) of R. borinquena species. The fruits were harvested and had their pulp (exocarp and mesocarp) removed and the disseminules were shade dried. The experimental design was entirely randomized and six treatments were performed (temperature conditions: constant at 25, 30 and 35°C; alternated at 25-35 and 20-30°C; and room temperature) with four replications with 25 disseminules per plot, placed in plastic boxes (gerbox) containing vermiculite. The germination rate and germination speed index were calculated, and the data were submitted to the variance analysis, and the means compared by the Tukey test. For the morphological studies, the external and internal sides of the disseminules, the embryo and the representative germination stages were sketched. The samples were fixed in FAA (formalin – acetic acid – ethyl alcohol). It was concluded that the highest germination rate and faster germination were at the constant temperature of 35°C and alternated of 25-35°C. The seeds are albuminous, with a hard endosperm that takes almost the entire interior of the disseminules; the embryo is lateral, peripheral and poorly differentiated; the germination is adjacent.

Abstract DnaJ from Escherichia coli is a Type I Hsp40 that functions as a cochaperone of DnaK (Hsp70), stimulating its ATPase activity and delivering protein substrates. How DnaJ binds protein substrates is still poorly understood. Here we have studied the role of DnaJ G/F-rich domain in binding of several substrates with different conformational properties (folded, partially (un)folded and unfolded). Using partial proteolysis we find that RepE, a folded substrate, contacts a wide DnaJ area that involves part of the G/F-rich region and Zn-binding domain. Deletion of G/F-rich region hampers binding of native RepE and reduced the affinity for partially (un)folded substrates. However, binding of completely unfolded substrates is independent on the G/F-rich region. These data indicate that DnaJ distinguishes the substrate conformation and is able to adapt the use of the G/F-rich region to form stable substrate complexes.

Title translation Impact of an additional inspiration CT scan on the conventional protocol of the ¹⁸F-FDG PET-CT in the detection of small pulmonary nodes.
Abstract Aim: To determine the impact of an additional inspiration CT scan on the conventional ¹⁸F-FDG PET-CT protocol in the detection of small pulmonary nodules.
Method: One hundred consecutive patients who presented with one or various nodules were studied. Whole-body PET-CT was performed using Gemini (Philips). CT acquisition parameters were 120 kV/25 mAs, the same as those for the transmission/fusion CT (mild expiration) and inspiratory CT.
Results: A total of 188 nodules were detected in the inspiratory CT with sizes between 0.3-3 cm. Non-inspiratory CT did not show 20/188 nodules (10.6%) with sizes between 0.3-1cm, this corresponding to 17 patients. The most frequent localization of non-detectable nodules in non-inspiratory CT was the lower lobes. ¹⁸F-FDG uptake was detected by the PET in 83.9% and 72% of nodules with > 1 cm and between 0.7 and 1cm, respectively. However, only 10.5% of nodules <0.7 cm showed increased metabolic activity.
Conclusion: In selected patients, inspiratory CT added to conventional PET-CT significantly improves the detection of small nodules (10.6%), especially in those lesions located in the lower lobes, due to respiratory movements, and may have an impact on patient management.

Abstract A series of chemically modified 7-phenylpyrrolo[3,2-f]quinolinones was synthesized and evaluated as anticancer agents. Among them, the most cytotoxic (subnanomolar GI50 values) amidic derivative 5f was shown to act as an inhibitor of tubulin polymerization (IC50, 0.99 μM) by binding to the colchicine site with high affinity. Moreover, 5f induced cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle in a concentration dependent manner, followed by caspase-dependent apoptotic cell death. Compound 5f also showed lower toxicity in nontumoral cells, suggesting selectivity toward cancer cells. Additional experiments revealed that 5f inhibited the enzymatic activity of multiple kinases, including AURKA, FLT3, GSK3A, MAP3K, MEK, RSK2, RSK4, PLK4, ULK1, and JAK1. Computational studies showed that 5f can be properly accommodated in the colchicine binding site of tubulin as well as in the ATP binding clefts of all examined kinases. Our data indicate that the excellent antiproliferative profile of 5f may be derived from its interactions with multiple cellular targets.

Abstract The ectomycorrhizal fungi association with native forest essences could be an alternative to improve the adaptation and the development of seedlings in reforested areas of Rio Grande do Sul State. The aim of this work was to identify and to characterize the ectomycorrhizal associations in Apuleia leiocarpa and Peltophorum dubium seedlings, under laboratory conditions. Four inoculation treatments with ectomycorrhizal isolates were used to Apelui leiocarpa: UFSM RA 2.8 (Suillus sp.), UFSM RA 3.6, UFSCPt116 (Pisolithus microcarpus) and UFSC-Pt24 (Pisolithus sp.) and one uninoculated as control. For P. dubium, were used the isolates UFSM RA 2.8 UFSC-Pt116, UFSC-Sc124 (Scleroderma citrinum Pers.) and UFSC-Pt24 (Pisolithus sp.), and control. For both forest essences there were seven replicates per treatment. It was analyzed the following parameters: height of plants, fresh matter of shoots and roots, dry matter of shoots and roots and presence of ectomycorhizal colonization. Ectomycorrhizas were observed in Apuleia leiocarpa seedlings inoculated with the isolate UFSM RA 2.8 (Suillus sp.). This fungus also improved seedlings growth, as height of plants, fresh and dry matter of shoots, although, it was not statistically different from the other isolates. Seedlings of Peltophorum dubium presented evidences of ectomycorrhizal formation, like the presence of a fungal mantle.
