Abstract Introduction: Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is often prescribed for ambulatory palliative patients to improve sleep quality and appetite and to reduce anxiety, stress, and pain. However, it is not known if THC has also an effect on the mortality of these patients.
Method: The objective was the impact of THC on mortality of ambulatory palliative patients. For this purpose, data from the palliative treatment documentation from 5 ambulatory palliative care teams in Brandenburg, Germany were used for this analysis. Survival time was calculated for 3 groups of patients: (1) without THC; (2) with THC in a low dosage (≤4.7 mg per day); and (3) THC in higher doses (≥4.7 mg per day). The analysis was done for 2 cohorts of patients. Cohort 1: all patients with a survival time of at least 7 days after inclusion in specialized ambulatory palliative care (SAPC) and cohort 2: a subgroup of patients with a survival time between 7 and 100 days. Kaplan-Meier curves were created, and multivariate analysis was done to investigate the impact of THC on mortality.
Results: A total of 9,419 patients with a survival time of at least 7 days after inclusion in SAPC were included in the analysis (cohort 1). 7,085 among them had a survival time between 7 and 100 days (cohort 2). In both cohorts, survival time was significantly prolonged by THC, but only when the daily THC dose was above the median of 4.7 mg. Survival time was 15 days longer in cohort 2 (40 vs. 25 days), when more than 4.7 mg THC were prescribed per day.
Conclusion: Use of THC is associated with a significant increase in survival time in ambulatory palliative patients which survive longer than 7 days the initiation of THC prescription and which use of THC >4.7 mg/day.

Abstract Objective: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an effective treatment for anxiety and depression disorders. Nonetheless, nearly 50% of all patients do not respond. Besides other factors, nonresponse may be linked to traumatic life events. This study aims to assess the relationship between trauma history, applied therapy interventions, and therapy outcomes.
Methods: We analyzed data from 340 CBT outpatients diagnosed with a depression or anxiety disorder and possibly a trauma history treated under naturalistic conditions. Based on their therapy files, we collected information on trauma history, diagnoses, applied interventions, and severity of depression and anxiety symptoms at the start and end of therapy. The relationship between trauma, diagnoses, and intervention use and the development of depression and anxiety symptoms was analyzed using Linear Mixed Models.
Results: Patients with a trauma history reported higher pre- and posttreatment symptom severity than those without trauma. No differences in applied interventions or decrease in symptom severity were found between patients with and without a trauma history. Specialized interventions were seldom applied.
Conclusion: Although no differences between patients with and without a trauma history were found in therapy response, patients with a trauma history maintained higher levels of symptom severity. These results indicate a need for more personalized interventions and evidence-based guidelines to personalize CBT for patients with a trauma history and high symptom severity.

Abstract The present empirical study deals with the comparison of the Tagesschau with the children’s news from logo! It was assumed that the acquisition of knowledge by logo! is higher and that logo! is characterized by a lower language level, which could contribute to higher knowledge. To test the assumptions, an online experiment was designed which empirically tested the knowledge conveyed by both programs in the form of concrete contributions from 260 study participants. The language used was analyzed with the LIWC software; the Flesch-Index was also determined. The results show that logo! leads to a higher level of knowledge, although not equally for all contributions, and in some cases has a lower language level (lower word complexity and shorter sentences as well as a higher Flesch-Index). The higher knowledge in the logo! condition could thereby be partly explained by the language used, although the findings are not entirely clear. Finally, the logo! advantage was found to be greater for individuals with a university degree than for others, which becomes understandable in light of the knowledge gap hypothesis. From our findings, practical recommendations can be derived, among other things, for the linguistic design of TV news in order to improve knowledge acquisition.

Abstract Purpose: Data from the intensive care component of the German hospital infection surveillance system (KISS) was used to investigate the epidemiology of pathogens responsible for the most frequent device-associated infections and their development over time.
Method: The 10 most common pathogens were identified for ventilator-associated lower respiratory tract infections (VALRTI), catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), and central venous catheter associated bloodstream infections (CVC-BSI). The development over time was analyzed based on three five-year time periods: 2008-2012, 2013-2017, 2018-2022.
Results: Data from 1425 ICUs were included together with 121,762 device-associated infections with 138,299 isolated pathogens. A remarkable and significant increase in the frequency of Klebsiella spp. was found for VALRTI, that was almost twice as high during 2018-2022 compared to 2008-2012. For CAUTI, there was a significant increase of all Enterobacterales with the most prominent increase in Klebsiella spp. With regard to CVC-BSI, the situation for coagulase-negative staphylococci and E. coli was relatively stable; while there was a significant increase in Enterococcus spp. and Klebsiella spp. and a decrease in S. aureus.
Conclusion: Knowledge about the current frequency of pathogens responsible for nosocomial infections in intensive care units is important for guiding empirical antimicrobial therapy. Data from national nosocomial infection surveillance systems can provide relevant information about the development of pathogens.

Abstract Vossian Antonomasia (VA) is a well-known stylistic device based on attributing a certain property to a person by relating them to another person who is famous for this property. Although the morphological and semantic characteristics of this phenomenon have long been the subject of linguistic research, little is known about its distribution. In this paper, we describe end-to-end approaches for detecting and extracting VA expressions from large news corpora in order to study VA more broadly. We present two types of approaches: binary sentence classifiers that detect whether or not a sentence contains a VA expression, and sequence tagging of all parts of a VA on the word level, enabling their extraction. All models are based on neural networks and outperform previous approaches, best results are obtained with a fine-tuned BERT model. Furthermore, we study the impact of training data size and class imbalance by adding negative (and possibly noisy) instances to the training data. We also evaluate the models' performance on out-of-corpus and real-world data and analyze the ability of the sequence tagging model to generalize in terms of new entity types and syntactic patterns.
