    Abstract Slow charging speed has been a serious constraint to the promotion of electric vehicles (EVs), and therefore the development of advanced lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with fast-charging capability has become an urgent task. Thanks to its low price and excellent overall electrochemical performance, graphite has dominated the anode market for the past 30 years. However, it is difficult to meet the development needs of fast-charging batteries using graphite anodes due to their fast capacity degradation and safety hazards under high-current charging processes.     Abstract Using a hybrid simulation approach that combines a lattice-Boltzmann method for fluid flow and a molecular dynamics model for polymers, we investigate the inertial migration of star-like and crew-cut polymer micelles in a square microchannel. It is found that they exhibit two types of equilibrium positions, which shift further away from the center of the microchannel when the Reynolds number (Re) increases, as can be observed for soft particles. What differs from the behaviors of soft particles is that here, the blockage ratio is no longer the decisive factor. When the sizes are the same, the star-like micelles are always relatively closer to the microchannel wall as they gradually transition from spherical to disc-like with the increase of Re. In comparison, the crew-cut micelles are only transformed into an ellipsoid. Conversely, when the hydrophobic core sizes are the same, the equilibrium position of the star-like micelles becomes closer to that of the crew-cut micelles. Our results demonstrate that for polymer micelles with a core-shell structure, the equilibrium position is no longer solely determined by their overall dimensions but depends on the core and shell's specific dimensions, especially the hydrophobic core size. This finding opens up a new approach for achieving the separation of micelles in inertial migration.

    Abstract RNA modifications (epitranscriptome) - such as N6-methyladenosine (m6A), 5-methylcytosine (m5C), and pseudouridine (Ψ) - modulate RNA processing, stability, interaction, and translation, thereby playing critical roles in the development, replication, virulence, metabolism, and life cycle adaptations of parasitic protozoa. Here, we summarize potential homologs of the major human RNA modification regulatory factors in parasites, outline current knowledge on how RNA modifications affect parasitic protozoa, highlight the regulation of RNA modifications and their crosstalk, and discuss current progress in exploring RNA modifications as potential drug targets. This review contributes to our understanding of epitranscriptomic regulation of parasitic protozoa biology and pathogenesis and provides new perspectives for the treatment of parasitic diseases.

    Abstract Introduction and importance: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a rare skeletal disorder characterized by bone fragility and deformities in both paediatric and adult populations. The occurrence of severe spondylolisthesis in OI patients is even more infrequent. However, there is no consensus regarding the optimal treatment approach for OI patients afflicted with severe spondylolisthesis. The selection of surgical procedures and the effective management of postoperative complications present significant challenges in this context.
    Case presentation: A 30-year-old male patient diagnosed with OI type IV (Sillence classification) underwent the lumbar laminectomy and postero-lateral fusion due to severe spondylolisthesis (grade Ⅲ). Following the surgery, the patient experienced postoperative screw pullout while on bedrest. However, aside from experiencing back pain, there were no neurological symptoms present. To address this issue, the patient received salvage treatment in the form of cast immobilization combined with bisphosphonates. At the 3-year follow-up, the patient exhibited absence of sciatic nerve pain and reported mild numbness in the lower extremities. Moreover, the patient demonstrated the ability to ambulate a distance exceeding 1500 m. Nevertheless, the persistence of sexual dysfunction was observed.
    Clinical discussion: This study presented the initial instance of surgical complications observed in patients with severe spondylolisthesis and OI. This highlights the importance to exercise meticulous caution and thoroughness when assessing surgical interventions.
    Conclusion: In cases where the fixation fails to offer adequate biomechanical stability, the administration of bisphosphonates and robust immobilization remains crucial, even in the presence of complications.

    Abstract Objective: Sleep problems are a significant risk factor for identifying and preventing suicidal involvement among adolescents. However, there is limited evidence to assess the underlying mechanisms between them. This study investigated the longitudinal relationship between sleep problems and suicidal behavior and examined whether this relationship was moderated by negative emotions, low self-control, and nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI).
    Methods: From December 2020 onward, we assessed 1214 Chinese secondary school adolescents (60.7% were boys, aged 13-19 years) three times, 6 months apart.
    Results: In the direct effects model, sleep problems were found to have a positive impact on adolescent suicidal behavior. In the indirect effects model, we observed that sleep problems were associated with an elevated risk of suicidal behavior through several pathways: one-mediator path of negative emotions, low self-control, and NSSI, respectively; two-mediator path of negative emotions via low self-control, negative emotions via NSSI, and low self-control via NSSI, and three-mediator path from negative emotions to NSSI via low self-control.
    Conclusions: This longitudinal study provides evidence that sleep problems in adolescents may increase suicidal behavior by exacerbating negative emotions, weakening self-control, and promoting NSSI. The findings suggest sleep problems should be addressed in suicide prevention and intervention efforts for adolescents.

    Abstract The association between fasting plasma glucose (FPG), an important indicator of overall glycemic status, and the risk of cardiovascular mortality has been well investigated. The longitudinal study can repeatedly collect measured results for the variables to be studied and then consider the potential effects of intraindividual changes in measurement. This study aimed to identify long-term FPG trajectories and investigate the association between trajectory groups and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. A latent class growth mixture modeling (LCGMM) was used to identify FPG trajectories. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate associations between FPG trajectories and the risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. A U-shaped relationship between FPG and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality was observed in the restricted cubic spline regression models. Two FPG longitudinal trajectories of low-level (mean FPG = 5.12mmol/L) and high-level (mean FPG = 6.74mmol/L) were identified by LCGMM. After being adjusted for potential confounders, compared with the low-level category, the hazard ratios (HRs) for all-cause and cardiovascular mortality were 1.23(1.16-1.30) and 1.25(1.16-1.35), respectively, for the high-level group. Long-term FPG trajectories are significantly associated with and potentially impact the risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality.

    Abstract Introduction: The electron transport chain is closely related to cellular respiration and has been implicated in various human diseases. However, the traditional “wet” experimental method is time consuming. Therefore, it is key to identify electron transport proteins by computational methods. Many approaches have been proposed, but performance of them still has room for further improvement. Methodological issues: In our study, we propose a model stacking framework, which combines multiple base models. The protein features are extracted via PsePSSM from protein sequences. Features are fed into the base model including support vector machines (SVM), random forest (RF), XGBoost, etc. The results of base model are entered into logistic regression model for final process. Results: On the independent dataset, the accuracy and Matthew’s correlation coefficient (MCC) of proposed method are 95.70% and 0.8756, respectively. Furthermore, we show that the model stacking framework outperforms single machine learning classifiers statistically. Conclusion: Our models are better than most known strategies for identifying electron transport proteins. Our model can be used to more precisely identify electron transport proteins.

    Abstract This research focused on the supramolecular self-assembly of organic fluorescent molecules on organically modified layered silicate minerals to design and prepare layered nanocomposites with excellent fluorescence properties. Aromatic hydrocarbons are hydrophobic and poorly loaded on the hydrophilic surface of layered silicate minerals, but they are easily captured by an organically modified mineral surface. Montmorillonite (MMT) and saponite (SAP), typical 2:1 type layered silicate minerals with different octahedral cations, were modified with the cationic surfactant octadecyl trimethylammonium chloride (OTAC) and loaded with pyrene (an aromatic hydrocarbon dye) with different molar ratios to the cationic surfactant by supramolecular self-assembling to construct fluorescent nanocomposites. The effect of pyrene concentration and the octahedral cation of the 2:1 type layered silicate minerals on photoluminescence properties was investigated. The fluorescence spectra of the nanocomposites prepared under low pyrene concentrations showed two bands at around 400 and 470 nm, corresponding to the monomer and excimer emissions; the band intensity of the excimer shoots up with the increase of pyrene concentration, reflecting different contributions from monomer and dimer species and the formation of radical aggregates. The excellent heat resistance of the layered silicate structure can effectively protect pyrene molecules from external environmental influences.

    Abstract Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a prevalent malignancy affecting the digestive tract, with an increasing incidence rate worldwide. Recently, numerous studies revealed that microRNAs were associated with gene expression regulation, particularly their involvement in the regulation of tumor cells, garnering widespread attention. Here, we discovered that miR-196a-5p was significantly upregulated in both ESCC tissues and cells, which was correlated with an unfavorable prognosis. Series functional in vitro investigations have confirmed that silencing miR-196a-5p obviously restrained the ESCC cells malignant phenotypes and promoted apoptosis. Bioinformatics analysis and rescue experiments revealed that miR-196a-5p directly targeted ITM2B, exerting influence on the development of ESCC cells through negative regulation of ITM2B expression. Xenograft mouse models were established for conducting in vivo experiments, providing further confirmation of the regulatory mechanism and biological significance of the miR-196a-5p/ITM2B axis in ESCC. Our research demonstrated miR-196a-5p promoted ESCC malignant progression by interacting with ITM2B, thereby providing novel clues and potential targets for the new diagnosis and thereby of ESCC.
