Abstract The experimental results on the ratios of branching fractions R(D)=B(B[over ¯]→Dτ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B[over ¯]→Dℓ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{ℓ}) and R(D^{*})=B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}ℓ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{ℓ}), where ℓ denotes an electron or a muon, show a long-standing discrepancy with the standard model predictions, and might hint at a violation of lepton flavor universality. We report a new simultaneous measurement of R(D) and R(D^{*}), based on a data sample containing 772×10^{6}  BB[over ¯] events recorded at the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e^{+}e^{-} collider. In this analysis the tag-side B meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the signal-side τ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are R(D)=0.307±0.037±0.016 and R(D^{*})=0.283±0.018±0.014, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the standard model predictions within 0.2, 1.1, and 0.8 standard deviations for R(D), R(D^{*}), and their combination, respectively. This work constitutes the most precise measurements of R(D) and R(D^{*}) performed to date as well as the first result for R(D) based on a semileptonic tagging method.

A Large-Scale Dataset For Machine Learning Guided Integrated Circuit Synthesis

    2021

Abstract Logic synthesis is a challenging and widely-researched combinatorial optimization problem during integrated circuit (IC) design. It transforms a high-level description of hardware in a programming language like Verilog into an optimized digital circuit netlist, a network of interconnected Boolean logic gates, that implements the function. Spurred by the success of ML in solving combinatorial and graph problems in other domains, there is growing interest in the design of ML-guided logic synthesis tools. Yet, there are no standard datasets or prototypical learning tasks defined for this problem domain. Here, we describe OpenABC-D,a large-scale, labeled dataset produced by synthesizing open source designs with a leading open-source logic synthesis tool and illustrate its use in developing, evaluating and benchmarking ML-guided logic synthesis. OpenABC-D has intermediate and final outputs in the form of 870,000 And-Inverter-Graphs (AIGs) produced from 1500 synthesis runs plus labels such as the optimized node counts, and de-lay. We define a generic learning problem on this dataset and benchmark existing solutions for it. The codes related to dataset creation and benchmark models are available athttps://github.com/NYU-MLDA/OpenABC.git. The dataset generated is available athttps://archive.nyu.edu/handle/2451/63311

Abstract Background: International and observational epidemiological studies provide evidence that vitamin D deficiency may confer increased risk of influenza and respiratory tract infection. This study was undertaken to evaluate the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in pneumonia in children, and to assess its relationship with the severity.
Methods: Study group included children aged between 2 months to 5 years of age admitted as inpatients who presented with clinical features of pneumonia as per WHO Classification. Detailed clinical assessment and physical examination was done at the time of admission and patients were enrolled and relevant findings were noted in prestructured proforma. Vitamin D levels <30 nmol/L (<12 ng/mL) were defined as deficient, 30-50 nmol/L (12-20 ng/mL) as insufficient, and >125 nmol/L (>50 ng/mL) as sufficient. Outcomes of the patients admitted were recorded in terms of duration of hospitalization, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) stay, oxygen requirement, antibiotic need and duration, need for upgradation of antibiotics, nebulization need with drugs used, ventilator need and other parameters. Statistical analysis was performed using statistical package for social sciences software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). A P value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: Out of 101 patients, 100% presented with fever, cough and fast breathing, 42.6% with grunting, 41 (40.5%) with noisy breathing, 5.7% with bluish discoloration, and 4.3% with apnea. Forty-one (40.5%) patients had crepitation, 53 (52.4%) patients had rhonchi, while 7 (6%) presented with bronchial breathing. Chest radiography features at admission helped to differentiate between presumed viral and presumed bacterial infection. Vitamin D deficient patients had significantly longer duration of hospital stay as compared to vitamin D sufficient group (P<0.001). The need for upgradation of antibiotics between the three groups were found to be significant (P<0.001). This showed that vitamin D deficiency is directly proportional to the need of upgradation of antibiotics. Bacterial pneumonia presents mostly as alveolar infiltrates and/or pleural effusion while viral pneumonia presents as interstitial infiltrates and/or hyperinflation. Cases with presumed bacterial pneumonia (based on X-ray, 38 out of 48, 79.1%) were more often vitamin D deficient as compared to case with presumed viral pneumonia (32 out of 52, 61.5%, P=0.05).
Conclusions: Vitamin D is widely prevalent in Indian children with pneumonia. Vitamin D deficient patients needed a longer duration of hospitalization, more upgradation of antibiotics, and PICU admissions; moreover, it had more CPAP requirement, longer duration of PICU stay and longer duration of CPAP requirements as compared to vitamin D sufficient group.

Abstract Background and aims: Vitamin D Deficiency/Insufficiency (VDD/VDI) is now recognized as a pandemic. Vitamin D is a versatile yet crucial factor which is vital for many metabolic functions in our body. Till now there is no screening tool for VDD/VDI. The aim of this study is to develop and validate a screening tool Vitamin D Insufficiency Risk Score (VDIRS).
Methods: This study was a rural community based cross-sectional study. It was done during May 2016 to April 2017 among 197 adults residing in rural West Bengal. After a thorough literature review and discussion with the field experts, four characteristics (BMI, Physical activity, Daily Sun exposure, Diet) were considered for VDIRS. Data was collected after taking informed consent. After interviewing every individual was examined for height, weight and blood was collected for vitamin 25-(OH) D. Weights were given to VDIRS characteristic according to Adjusted Odds' Ratio. Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curves were utilized to validate and find out optimum cut off for VDIRS using Youden's index for VDD/VDI with the use of R software.
Results: Only 133 (67.5%) had Vitamin D insufficiency. On ROC curves for VDIRS for VDI and VDD, AUC was 0.83 and 0.77 which signifies VDIRS as a good screening and predictive tool. A score of VDIRS ≥14 had sensitivity of 78.2% and specificity of 75.0% for VDI.
Conclusion: Use of the VDIRS can make mass screening for undiagnosed VDI/VDD in India more cost effective. Researchers strongly believe and perceive a necessity of such validated score in the present scenario.

Abstract Vitamin D deficiency is believed to be a pathogenetic factor in patients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and cystic fibrosis. Whether vitamin D deficiency is also prevalent in ABPA complicating asthma, remains unknown. Herein, we evaluated vitamin D levels in asthmatic patients with and without ABPA. In a prospective study, plasma vitamin D (25[OH]D) levels were measured in consecutive subjects with asthma (n = 75), ABPA (n = 158) and healthy volunteers (n = 50). Vitamin D levels <20 ng/mL were considered as vitamin D deficiency. There was no difference in mean (95% CI) vitamin D levels between healthy controls (15.3 [12.7-17.9]), asthmatics (19.2 [16.3-22.1]) and subjects with ABPA (18.9 [16.9-20.8]) (P = .22). Vitamin D deficiency was encountered in 70%, 64% and 65% of the healthy controls, asthmatics and ABPA subjects, respectively, and was not different between the groups (P = .79). There was no difference in the asthma control, pulmonary function, immunological findings and the severity of bronchiectasis, in patients with ABPA, with and without vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency is equally prevalent in asthmatic patients with or without ABPA in the Indian subcontinent, and does not appear to play a major role in the pathogenesis of ABPA complicating asthma.

Abstract Cancer remains the second leading cause of mortality globally. In combating cancer, conventional chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy are administered as first-line therapy. However, these are usually accompanied with adverse side effects that decrease the quality of patient's lives. As such, natural bioactive compounds have gained an attraction in the scientific and medical community as evidence of their anticancer properties and attenuation of side effects mounted. In particular, quassinoids have been found to exhibit a plethora of inhibitory activities such as anti-proliferative effects on tumor development and metastasis. Recently, bruceine D, a quassinoid isolated from the shrub

Abstract We present the first comprehensive tests of the universality of the light leptons in the angular distributions of semileptonic B^{0}-meson decays to charged spin-1 charmed mesons. We measure five angular-asymmetry observables as functions of the decay recoil that are sensitive to lepton-universality-violating contributions. We use events where one neutral B is fully reconstructed in ϒ(4S)→BB[over ¯] decays in data corresponding to 189  fb^{-1} integrated luminosity from electron-positron collisions collected with the Belle II detector. We find no significant deviation from the standard model expectations.
