Abstract Helminths have been present throughout the evolution of humans, promoting the development and maturation of the host immune system. However, this interaction is not exclusive between these two organisms, as the microbiota is also involved in this human evolutionary process and maintains a balanced relationship inside the host. Consequently, helminths have been forced to interact and co-evolve with the microbiota, shaping microbial communities and allowing the development of reciprocal mechanisms that favour their establishment. This helminth-microbiota association, in turn, induced the activation of different host immunoregulatory pathways to preserve health by preventing the development of some diseases associated with inflammatory immune responses. Unfortunately, this collaborative relationship can be quali- and quantitatively altered by the diet and the use of antibacterial and antihelminthic drugs. Understanding the mechanisms involved in this complex three-way communication that has continued for many years is crucial for preserving health and for the generation of new therapeutic alternatives.

Abstract Background: Chest masculinization is a commonly performed gender-affirming procedure in transmasculine and non-binary patients and has increased in prevalence in recent years despite continued barriers to surgical care. With the expansion of insurance coverage and trained surgeons, patients at times have the opportunity to be selective in choosing their gender-affirming surgeon. This study aimed to investigate factors that transmasculine individuals consider important when selecting their chest masculinization plastic surgeon.
Methods: All patients who underwent chest masculinization with a single surgeon between January 2018 and December 2021 were surveyed via an online questionnaire to rate 21 factors associated with surgeon selection. Multiple-choice questions and free text space were included to further clarify patient preferences. Results were analyzed to rate factors in order of importance.
Results: One hundred three individuals completed the survey, generating a response rate of 49.5%. Average patient age at time of surgery was 27.0 years, and 2.0% of patients had prior gender affirmation surgery (GAS). The top five most important factors were surgeon specialization in GAS, insurance coverage, board certification, number of times surgeon has performed procedure, and availability of Before and After photographs. The five least important factors were age of surgeon, medical publications, availability of YouTube videos, location of training, and surgeon presence on social media.
Conclusions: Transmasculine patients employ distinct criteria when selecting a chest masculinization gender-affirming plastic surgeon. An improved understanding of these factors informs providers of ways to enhance patient access to information and gender-affirming care.Level of evidence: Not gradable.

Abstract Introduction: Statins are the first line of treatment in patients with severe hypercholesterolemia (SH). However, despite the knowledge regarding its effectiveness and security for preventing cardiovascular diseases, treatment is a major challenge.
Material and methods: A prospective observational study was conducted by telephone survey to determine cardiovascular risk factors, annual monitoring, statins use and persistence and new-onset cardiovascular events (CVE) after 5 years in patients with SH including in a program for detection of familial hypercholesterolemia.
Results: 115 participants were analysed, the median age was 56 ±10 being 74% females. 63.4% of women and 43% of men had been correctly controlled in the last year. Patients on lipid lowering drugs stratified by sex was 38.8% in women and 26.7% in men, however, only 22 participants (31.8%) were persistence with statins since 2015.Overall, 48% of the patients presented a CVE and 3.4% died. Multivariate analysis did not reveal predictors for CVE.
Conclusions: In our population with SH we found a high risk to present a CVE and a dramatic low use and persistence with the treatment.

Abstract Consumers are increasingly interested in food products with high nutritional value and health benefits. For instance, fish consumption is linked with diverse positive health benefits and the prevention of certain widespread disorders, such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, or cardiovascular diseases. These benefits have been attributed to its excellent nutritional value (large amounts of high-quality fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, and minerals) and bioactive compounds, while being relatively low-caloric. Abstract The resolution limit achievable with an optical system is a fundamental piece of information when characterizing its performance, mainly in case of microscopy imaging. Usually this information is given in the form of a distance, often expressed in microns, or in the form of a cutoff spatial frequency, often expressed in line pairs per mm. In modern imaging systems, where the final image is collected by pixelated digital cameras, the resolution limit is determined by the performance of both, the optical systems and the digital sensor. Usually, one of these factors is considered to be prevalent over the other for estimating the spatial resolution, leading to the global performance of the imaging system ruled by either the classical Abbe resolution limit, based on physical diffraction, or by the Nyquist resolution limit, based on the digital sensor features. This estimation fails significantly to predict the global performance of opto-digital imaging systems, like 3D microscopes, where none of the factors is negligible. In that case, which indeed is the most common, neither the Abbe formula nor the Nyquist formula provide by themselves a reliable prediction for the resolution limit. This is a serious drawback since systems designers often use those formulae as design input parameters. Aiming to overcome this lack, a simple mathematical expression obtained by finely articulating the Abbe and Nyquist formulas, to easily predict the spatial resolution limit of opto-digital imaging systems, is proposed here. The derived expression is tested experimentally, and shows to be valid in a broad range of opto-digital combinations.
