Abstract Rapid eye movement sleep (REMS) maintains brain excitability at least by regulating Na-K ATPase activity. Although REMS deprivation (REMSD)-associated elevated noradrenaline (NA) increases Na-K ATPase protein expression, its mRNA transcription did not increase. We hypothesized and confirmed both in vivo as well as in vitro that elevated mRNA stability explains the apparent puzzle. The mRNA stability was measured in control and REMSD rat brain with or without in vivo treatment with α

Abstract AbstractIncome distribution is found to be highly skewed among farm households with a Gini coefficient of 0.48. Most of the marginal and small farm households are in lower-income strata. Higher participation in pluriactivity and the highest Gini coefficient within each farm size category for marginal (0.50) and small farm size category households (0.45) highlight the tug of war for survival. Regression analysis revealed that less-educated and resource-poor farmers engaged themselves more in non-agricultural and unorganised sources of income, i.e., wages and non-farm business. Source-wise decomposition revealed that livestock and casual wages decrease income inequality. Hence, small holder farmer-centric farming systems and crops, low interest rate loans for women engaged in livestock rearing, agro-processing units and skill development centres to increase the share of non-farm income in total income are the key policy interventions.

Abstract Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a rare condition characterized by pathologically enlarged ventricles and a normal cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) opening pressure measured by lumbar puncture. NPH typically presents as a triad of cognitive decline, gait disturbance, and urinary incontinence. Rarely, NPH can present with bulbar involvement, particularly with difficulty swallowing. Here, we present a case of NPH in a 75-year-old man who presented with an episode of choking and a recent onset of swallowing difficulties with a three-month history of ataxia and progressive memory loss. His CT scan revealed ventriculomegaly, which was consistent with the clinical presentation of NPH and was further confirmed by a normal opening pressure on the CSF tap. Furthermore, ventriculoperitoneal shunts showed a marked improvement in patients' dysphagia and the classical triad of NPH symptoms. Through this case report, we want to highlight that NPH can present as a difficulty in swallowing.

Abstract The impact of biorationals (flonicamid, pyriproxyfen, spiromesifen) and conventional insecticides (fipronil, bifenthrin and ethion) was evaluated in term of oviposition preference by whitefly to treated cotton plants by multiple-choice test during 2018 and 2019. Whitefly had significantly higher oviposition preference towards plants treated with bifenthrin at 900 ml/ha (186.67eggs/leaf) and fipronil at 1000 ml/ha (171.33eggs/leaf) over untreated control (100.67eggs/leaf) based on overall mean of two years data. However, it showed least preference towards plant treated with spiromesifen at 500 ml/ha (32.11eggs/leaf), flonicamid at 200 g/ha (35.22eggs/leaf) and pyriproxyfen at 1250 ml/ha (53.28eggs/leaf). The results obtained from biochemical studies revealed that bifenthrin and fipronil treated leaves showed significant increase in total soluble sugar, reducing sugar content whereas total phenol and tannin content was significantly decreased in bifenthrin treated leaves. Biochemical parameters like total sugars and reducing sugars showed significant positive correlation; phenols and tannins had significant negative relationship with oviposition preference of whitefly. It may be concluded that bifenthrin and fipronil treated Bt cotton plants are nutritionally superior host for whitefly and led to behavioural hormoligosis in oviposition preference by whitefly.

Abstract This case report describes a 48-year-old man with hepatocellular carcinoma who developed tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) after 7 days of starting lenvatinib therapy. The patient was hospitalized and received appropriate interventions, including aggressive hydration, allopurinol, rasburicase, and electrolyte management. The patient's condition improved, and he was eventually discharged from the hospital. This case highlights the potential risk of TLS in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma receiving lenvatinib therapy, even after a short duration, and emphasizes the importance of early recognition and management of TLS to prevent serious complications.

Abstract Celery is an important nutritionally rich crop in the family Apiaceae. It is cultivated worldwide for food as well as for use in pharmaceutics. It is an excellent source of minerals, vitamins, and phytochemicals. Identification of superior genotypes with improved nutritional content is the requirement to develop cultivars for commercial cultivation. For mineral analysis of celery, an experiment was carried out taking 20 diverse genotypes. These genotypes were analysed for macro- and micronutrients which include nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu), and sodium (Na). The study revealed high content of K (20.3–26.1 mg/g dry weight (DW)) and Zn (0.09–0.14 mg/g DW) in leaves while the stalks were rich in Ca (41.5–51.3 mg/g DW) and Na (5.2–8.0 mg/g DW). High contents of P (5.2–6.8 mg/g DW), Fe (0.41–0.56 mg/g DW), Cu (0.015–0.026 mg/g DW), and Mn (0.020–0.029 mg/g DW) were observed in seeds. Based on the mineral content, three genotypes, viz., PAU2, PAU4, and PAU7, were found to be superior in terms of mineral composition in leaves, stalks, and seeds. Cluster analysis divided the genotypes into two major groups. These genotypes can be used in crosses as they showed great potential for use in biofortification. This study opens newer avenues for future research, encouraging researchers to enhance the product quality and production efficiency of the leaves, stalks, and seeds valuable for human consumption.

Abstract Currently, granular urea (most commonly used fertilizer) is applied through broadcasting by farmers in the field. Granular urea causes significant losses due to slower soil mineralization rates, as well as ammonia volatilization and immobilization. Hence, fertilizing crops is becoming an increasingly difficult task due to low use efficiency and in mulch field conditions, it becomes more severe. The research done on mechatronic systems of applying liquid fertilizer by spot injection in field is limited. In the present study, the performance of the developed tractor operated liquid urea applicator consisting of electronic metering mechanism was evaluated at the Research Farm of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, Punjab during 2020–22. Research was done at two different types of soil (S1: sandy loam, and S2: loam) for three different forward speeds (3.6, 2.7, 1.8 km/h). Results obtained from experiments indicated that both soil type and forward speed had a significant (P<0.05) effect on the application rate of liquid urea. The best results were obtained without affecting crop yield at a forward speed of the machine 2.7 km/h with the application rate of 1090.85 litre/ha and 1035.18 litre/ha, fuel consumption 4.13 litre/h and 4.02 litre/h and crop yield 39.50 q/ha and 39.63 q/ha, for soil type S1 and S2 respectively. The cost of operation of machine was found 1996.53 `/ha. Developed tractor operated liquid urea applicator would help in improving conventional practices which are not aligned with environmental protection (e.g. gaseous emissions and nutrient losses) and boost the adoption rate of mechanized fertigation in the crops.
