Abstract Purpose: To study the cancer blocking effect of the Qi-lan granulates in SD rats.
Methods: A total of 150 SD rats were divided into five groups A,B,C,D,E. Rats in group A, B, C, D were fed with 0.002% 4NQO dissolved in drinking water to induce tongue carcinogenesis in rats. Different concentration of the herb Qi-lan granulates was given to the rats of group B, C, D during oral carcinogenesis. Group A was model group, group E was normal group. The rats were sacrificed at 9, 18, 27 and 36 weeks respectively from the beginning of the experiment. The samples were collected for histophology and PCNA immunohistochemistry. The date was analyzed by Chi-square test and Kruskal-Wallis test using SPSS13.0 software package.
Results: The overall canceration rate of group B (14.29%), C (3.57%), D (14.29%) was significantly lower than group A (39.29%) (P<0.05), the effect of Qi-lan granulates in group C was the best. Immunohistochemistry result showed that 6 cases of normal oral mucosa in group A had positive expression of PCNA. In 11 cases of dysplasia, 8 had positive express of PCNA, 11 rats with oral cancerous tissues had positive expression of PCNA.In group A, the expression of PCNA was normal tissue<dysplasia tissue<tongue cancer tissue (P<0.05). The expression rate of PCNA in tongue dysplasia from rats in group A(8/11) was significantly higher than the other group B (6/15), C (4/14) and D(3/13) (P<0.05). But in cancer tissues, the expression of PCNA in group A was not significantly different from group B,C and D (P>0.05). In general, the expression of PCNA in group A was significantly higher than the Qi-lan granulates group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The expression of PCNA in group E was negative.
Conclusions: Qi-lan granulates have significant inhibitory effect on tongue cancer, through blocking cell proliferation.

Abstract Phthalate esters (PE), a significant class of organic compounds used in industry, can contaminate humans and animals by entering water and food chains. Recent studies demonstrate the influence of PE on the development and progression of heart diseases, particularly in obese people. Di-isobutyl phthalate (DIBP) was administered orally to normal and diet-induced obese mice in this research to assess cardiovascular risk. The modifications in the microbial composition and metabolites were examined using RNA sequencing and mass spectrometry analysis. Based on the findings, lean group rodents were less susceptible to DIBP exposure than fat mice because of their cardiovascular systems. Histopathology examinations of mice fed a high-fat diet revealed lesions and plagues that suggested a cardiovascular risk. In the chronic DIBP microbial remodeling metagenomics

Abstract During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a subset of individuals continues to suffer from symptoms including fatigue, post-exertional malaise, dyspnea, bone loss, and memory and neurocognitive dysfunction for months and even years after infection. This clinical phenomenon has been labeled 'Long-haul COVID' or 'post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC)'; however, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain unclear. Abstract Objective: There are differences between the floating population and the registered population in the awareness and use of the National Essential Public Health Services (NEPHS) due to the influence of China's household registration system. The Equalization of Basic Public Health and Family Planning Services (EBPHFPS) policy aims to reduce disparities among populations by enhancing the migrant population's access to basic public health services. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the EBPHFPS targeted at the floating population and the disparities in access to and utilisation of NEPHS between registered residents and the floating population.
    Design: A cross-sectional study.
Setting: 8 cities (regions, autonomous prefectures) in China.
Participants: 13 998 floating population and 14 000 registered residents in eight cities (regions, autonomous prefectures) were included in the analysis.
Outcome measures: Three binomial variables, including awareness of NEPHS, acceptance of health education and establishment of health records, were used as outcome indicators to examine the relationship between the EBPHFPS and the disparities between the floating and registered populations.
Methods: A linear regression model, fairness gap calculation and propensity score matching were used to explore the associations.
Results: The areas that implemented EBPHFPS exhibited an 8.3% increase in awareness of the NEPHS (p<0.01) and a 4.0% increase (p<0.05) in the likelihood of individuals having received health education within the previous year compared with the areas without the policy implementation. In contrast to registered residents, however, the floating population still faces significant disparities in NEPHS awareness and utilisation. Compared with areas without the equalisation policy, the inequality of opportunity in health education of the floating population in implementation areas is significantly lower (p<0.01), whereas no significant difference is observed in the inequality of opportunity regarding NEPHS awareness among the floating population (p>0.1). The floating population in the pilot areas of the policy encountered greater disparities in the establishment of health records (p<0.01).
Conclusions: Positive associations between the EBPHFPS policy and NEPHS awareness and utilisation among the floating population were demonstrated to some extent; however, the floating population was still confronted with a degree of inequality of opportunity. The government needs to develop target-oriented policies and a guaranteed mechanism to ensure access to NEPHS among the floating population.

Abstract Background: Astragalus is a widely used traditional Chinese medicine material that is easily confused due to its quality, price and other factors derived from different origins. This article describes a novel method for the rapid tracing and detection of Astragalus via the joint application of an electronic tongue (ET) and an electronic eye (EE) combined with a lightweight convoluted neural network (CNN)-transformer model. First, ET and EE systems were employed to measure the taste fingerprints and appearance images, respectively, of different Astragalus samples. Three spectral transform methods - the Markov transition field, short-time Fourier transform and recurrence plot - were utilized to convert the ET signals into 2D spectrograms. Then, the obtained ET spectrograms were fused with the EE image to obtain multimodal information. A lightweight hybrid model, termed GETNet, was designed to achieve pattern recognition for the Astragalus fusion information. The proposed model employed an improved transformer module and an improved Ghost bottleneck as its backbone network, complementarily utilizing the benefits of CNN and transformer architectures for local and global feature representation. Furthermore, the Ghost bottleneck was further optimized using a channel attention technique, which boosted the model's feature extraction effectiveness.
Results: The experiments indicate that the proposed data fusion strategy based on ET and EE devices has better recognition accuracy than that attained with independent sensing devices.
Conclusion: The proposed method achieved high precision (99.1%) and recall (99.1%) values, providing a novel approach for rapidly identifying the origin of Astragalus, and it holds great promise for applications involving other types of Chinese herbal medicines. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by a high degree of malignancy and mortality. Sorafenib (SOR), a multi-kinase inhibitor, is clinically used in the treatment of HCC. However, SOR suffers from serious side effects and drug resistance. The development of novel therapeutic strategies for HCC therapy is urgently needed. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has unique advantages in treating deep tumors due to the merits of deep tissue penetration, low side effects, and the absence of drug resistance. Here, we developed multifunctional nanoparticles (NPs) termed SOR-TCPP@PEG-FA by assembling SOR, tetrakis (4-carboxyphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP), and folic acid (FA)-modified DSPE-PEG. The FA group enhances the tumor targeting capability of these NPs, while TCPP generates ROS under ultrasound (US) irradiation, which are toxic to tumor cells, and SOR with chemotherapeutic effects is released, thus realizing the synergistic SDT and chemotherapy of tumors.
