Abstract Spirotryprostatin alkaloids, a class of alkaloids with a unique spirocyclic indoledionepiperazine structure, were first extracted from the fermentation broth of Aspergillus fumigatus and have garnered significant attention in the fields of biology and pharmacology. The investigation into the pharmacological potential of this class of alkaloids has unveiled promising applications in drug discovery and development. Notably, certain spirotryprostatin alkaloids have demonstrated remarkable anti-cancer activity, positioning them as potential candidates for anti-tumor drug development. In recent years, organic synthetic chemists have dedicated efforts to devise efficient and viable strategies for the total synthesis of spirotryprostatin alkaloids, aiming to meet the demands within the pharmaceutical domain. The construction of the spiro-C atom within the spirotryprostatin scaffold and the chirality control at the spiro atomic center emerge as pivotal aspects in the synthesis of these compounds. This review categorically delineates the synthesis of spirotryprostatin alkaloids based on the formation mechanism of the spiro-C atom.

Abstract The combination of piezoelectricity and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect makes wurtzite semiconductors attractive for the development of exotic spin-related physics as well as spintronic applications. Triggering piezoelectricity, particularly by an external stimulus, provides a new perspective for manipulating SOC, but until now, a comprehensive understanding of this mechanism is lacking. Herein, by means of self-consistent calculations and Löwdin perturbation approach, we have explored the manipulation of SOC in the wurtzite (Al, Ga)N/GaN heterostructure by external stress-induced piezoelectric polarization. The results suggest that the Rashba SOC depends weakly on stress due to the wide-gap feature of the wurtzite crystal that makes Rashba SOC predominant by a bulk term instead of the structural inversion term. The piezoelectric polarization diminishes and even turns off Dresselhaus coupling by reducing the interfacial electric field. Moreover, piezoelectricity is shown to improve the poorly gate-tunable SOC. In the heterostructure with two occupied subbands, the Dresselhaus coupling of the second subband is more sensitive than the first one in response to stress. As an extension, we further demonstrate that the correlation effect in the wurtzite heterostructure can be significantly enhanced by piezoelectric polarization. This study offers an in-depth insight into piezoelectric modulation of spin-orbit physics, which has the potential for stimulating new quantum correlation states or designing functional spintronic devices.

Abstract Introduction: Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the common pathogenic bacteria that can cause infections in hospitals and communities and can cause respiratory, urinary, and other multi-system infections. In recent years, the emergence of highly virulent and drug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae has greatly increased the difficulty of treatment for infection. Clinically, it is very important to accurately judge the virulence of isolated Klebsiella pneumoniae for treatment, but there is no better method to evaluate its virulence.
Methods: In this study, zebrafish were used as a model organism, and the swimming distance was used as a detection index to identify clinically isolated Klebsiella pneumoniae. In this study, we selected two different strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, i.e., NTUH-K2044 and ATCC BAA-1705, with known high and low virulence, respectively, to infect zebrafish juveniles and evaluated their behavioral ability according to different bacterial concentrations and different developmental times.
Results: It was found that highly virulent Klebsiella pneumoniae caused a significant decrease in the behavioral ability of zebrafish larvae, while low-virulence Klebsiella pneumoniae had relatively little effect.
Conclusions: These results indicate that it is entirely feasible to assess the virulence of Klebsiella pneumoniae based on behavioral ability.

Abstract Color centers in silicon carbide have become potentially versatile quantum sensors. Particularly, wide temperature-range temperature sensing has been realized in recent years. However, the sensitivity is limited due to the short dephasing time of the color centers. In this work, we developed a high-sensitivity silicon carbide divacancy-based thermometer using the thermal Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (TCPMG) method. First, the zero-field splitting

Abstract Although in vitro experiments have demonstrated the potential of flavonoid compounds in regulating blood pressure, there is still a lack of evidence from large population studies. We conducted a cross-sectional study using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to investigate the relationship between flavonoid intake levels (natural log transformation) and hypertension events. A total of 15 752 participants aged over 20 years were included, and a weighted multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the relationship between total flavonoids, five sub types intake, and hypertension events. Smooth curve fitting was used to explore potential nonlinear relationships. Higher total flavonoids intake was associated with a lower risk of hypertension than the lowest group. The adjusted odds ratios (95% CIs) were 0.79 (0.70-0.88) for total flavonoids intake. Elevated total flavonoids intake levels were significantly and linearly associated with a lower risk of hypertension. For each unit increase in the total flavonoids intake level, the adjusted ORs for risk of hypertension decrease by 5% (OR 0.95; 95% CI, 0.92-0.98). In addition, in restricted cubic spline regression, we found that flavan-3-ols, anthocyanidins, and flavonols intake were linearly and negatively related to prevalence of hypertension. Flavones intake showed nonlinear associations with prevalence of hypertension with inflection points of -1.90. Within a certain range, a negative correlation exists between flavonoids intake and hypertension events. This finding provides insights into dietary modifications in the prevention of hypertension.
