Abstract The global prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) has been an environmental menace. Tons of drug wastes from antiretroviral therapy are released into the environment annually. We, for the first time, employed the novel dielectric barrier atmospheric non-thermal plasma (DBANP) discharge, to mitigate the inadvertent pollution arising from the antiretroviral therapy. A 40-min treatment of nevirapine achieved >94 % (0.075 min

Abstract Abstract Punctuality of the steel-making scheduling is important to save steel production costs, but the processing time of the pretreatment process, which connects the iron- and steel-making stages, is usually uncertain. This paper presents a distributionally robust iron-steel allocation (DRISA) model to obtain a robust scheduling plan, where the distribution of the pretreatment time vector is assumed to belong to an ambiguity set which contains all the distributions with given first and second moments. This model aims to minimize the production objective by determining the iron-steel allocation and the completion time of each charge, while the constraints should hold with a certain probability under the worst-case distribution. To solve problems in large-scale efficiently, a variable neighborhood algorithm is developed to obtain a near-optimal solution in a short time. Experiments based on actual production data demonstrate its efficiency. Results also show the robustness of the DRISA model, i.e., the adjustment and delay of the robust schedule derived from the DRISA model are less than the nominal one.

Abstract Silica aerogels are attractive oil-absorbing agents due to their low density, high porosity. However, how to discharge the oil which adsorbed by silica aerogels is a difficult issue. To address this challenge, new separation strategies with high efficiency are needed. In this study, we prepared the temperature and pH dual response flexible silica aerogel have temperature response and pH response effect, which can change its wettability by adjusting temperature or pH. On the one hand, the temperature and pH responsive flexible silica aerogel can be used to adsorb water at the temperature below 34.73 °C or pH > 7. On the other hand, it can adsorb oil at a temperature above 34.73 °C or pH < 7. The automatic desorption of oil can be achieved without consuming additional energy and damaging the pore structure. Therefore, the sample could continuously adsorb and filtrate efficiently and realize the recovery of oil and adsorption materials.

Abstract The pathophysiology of psoriasis is complex and has not been completely elucidated. Better understanding of the pathogenesis may contribute to further improvement of our therapeutic strategies controlling psoriasis. Emerging evidence points to a causative relationship between altered activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and psoriasis. The present review focuses on deeper understanding of the possible role of PPARγ in the pathogenesis of psoriasis and the potential of PPARγ agonist to improve the treatment of psoriasis. PPARγ is decreased in psoriasis. PPARγ possibly has effects on the multiple aspects of the pathogenesis of psoriasis, including abnormal lipid metabolism, insulin resistance, immune cells, pro-inflammatory cytokines, keratinocytes, angiogenesis, oxidative stress, microRNAs and nuclear factor kappa B. As defective activation of PPARγ is involved in psoriasis development, PPARγ agonists may be promising agents for treatment of psoriasis. Pioglitazone appears an effective and safe option in the treatment of patients with psoriasis, but there are still concerns about its potential side effects. Research effort has recently been undertaken to explore the PPARγ-activating potential of natural products. Among them some have been studied clinically or preclinically for treatment of psoriasis with promising results.

Abstract The 5th Plenary Session of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee clearly states that developing science and technology through self-reliance and self-strengthening provides the strategic underpinning for China's development. Based on this background, this paper explores a metric model for assessing national scientific research strength through collaboration on research papers.

Abstract Millions of waste plastic express packaging bags (PEPBs) were generated with the rapid development of the express delivery industry due to the boom of electronic commerce. Waste PEPBs contain polyethylene (PE) material and large number of pollutants such as plasticizers and flame retardants. In this study, two effective and environmental-friendly methods were proposed to produce valuable products and remove pollutants from waste PEPBs by supercritical water degradation (SCWD) and supercritical water partial oxidation (SCWPO) treatments. Both SCWD and SCWPO treatments could effectively obtain valuable products (wax, liquid oil, CaCO₃) and remove bisphenol A (BPA) and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) from waste PEPBs. No obvious difference about the conversion could be found between SCWD and SCWPO treatments. 425 °C, 60 min, solid-to-liquid ratio of 1:20 g/mL, and V(H₂O₂):V(H₂O) ratio of 1:3 mL/mL were the optimal conditions for the conversion of waste PEPBs by SCWD and SCWPO treatments. The maximum conversion could reach 98.13%. The produced wax and liquid oil were easily separated from each other. The produced wax mainly included long-chain olefins or long-chain alkanes, and a small amount of alcohols, ethers and aldehydes. SCWD treatment was favorable for obtaining long-chain alkenes, while SCWPO treatment was favorable for obtaining long-chain alkanes. The main chemical compounds contained in the produced liquid oil were decomposed from DEHP and BPA. DEHP was decomposed to produce 2-ethyl-1-hexanol and acetophenone. BPA was decomposed to produce 4-tert-butylphenol and other alkylated derivatives of benzene and phenol. In comparison with SCWD treatment, DEHP and BPA could be decomposed more thoroughly by SCWPO treatment.

Abstract Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) functions as a marker of adipocyte differentiation in mammals, but little is known about its role in fish adipogenesis. The aim of this research is to investigate the function of Lpl in adipocyte differentiation in fish. In this paper, we isolated and characterized lipoprotein lipase a (lpla) and lipoprotein lipase b (lplb) from grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idellus). The complete coding sequence of lpla and lplb was 1524 bp and 1503 bp in length, coding for 507 amino acids and 500 amino acids, respectively. Both lpla and lplb mRNA were expressed in a great number of tissues. During adipogenesis, the level of lpla mRNA reached its maximum at day 2 and then dropped gradually, while the level of lplb mRNA had no significant changes, indicating that lpla and lplb may have different function in the differentiation of grass carp adipocyte. Furthermore, inhibition of lpla by inhibitor of LPL(GSK264220A) at early time points most clearly reduced adipogenesis, whereas these effects were less pronounced at later stages, suggesting that lpla predominantly affects early adipogenesis rather than late adipogenesis. Based on these findings, it can be inferred that lpla and lplb in grass carp may have distinct roles in the differentiation of grass carp adipocyte, and lpla may play an important role in the early adipogenesis rather than late adipogenesis in grass carp.
