    Abstract In order to solve the problem of serious deformation and failure of surrounding rock and difficult maintenance of gob-side entries with strong mining-induced small coal pillars, taking the A110607 return airway of the Shanwenjiaba Coal Mine as the engineering background, the key parameters of roof-cutting and pressure relief control technology for roadway excavation with strong mining-induced small coal pillars were studied by using two-way concentrated blasting roof-cutting and pressure relief technology, combined with theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and a field industrial test. A collaborative control scheme of “roof-cutting pressure relief + anchor cable combined support” is proposed. The test results show that when the height of roof-cutting is 8 m, the angle of roof-cutting is 15°, and when the width of the coal pillar is 3 m, the effect of roof-cutting and pressure relief is the best. Through the field blasting test, it was determined that the blast hole spacing was 800 mm, 321 charge structure was used in the intact roof, and 221 or 211 charge structures were used in the broken roof and geological structure zones. During the driving and strong mining period, the roof and floor movement of the roof-cutting section of the roadway excavation was reduced by about 38% compared with the uncut section, and the deformation of the two sides of the roadway was reduced by about 44% compared with the uncut section. It shows that the collaborative control scheme of “roof-cutting pressure relief + anchor cable combined support” has a good effect on the roadway excavation driving of small coal pillars in strong mining.

    Abstract Human activities and environment changes have changed river estuary ecosystems, which impacts element changes in coastal sediments and mangroves. Mangrove propagule chemical traits showed a systematic shift along environmental gradients. But knowledge about how the pattern of multi-element variability is coordinated in propagule remains limited, and the conservation of macro and trace elements in propagules is also unknown. In this study, the concentrations, variability and coordinated pattern variation of 13 elements in Aegiceras corniculatum propagule across shrimp aquaculture effluent habitats, as well as the relationship between propagule element and environment factors were explored. We used CV to quantify the variability of each element, and then explore the pattern of multi-element variability. The results showed that: (1) in the habitats affected by shrimp aquaculture, the elements content shows: C > K > Cl > N > Na > P > S > Mg > Ca > Fe > Mn > Zn > Cu, and the coefficient variation shows: Mn > Cu > Fe > Zn > S > N > P > Cl > Na > K > Mg > Ca > C, which means that the element concentration are negatively correlated with the element variability and the variability of macro-elements was more conservative than micro-elements in these habitats; (2) pH, OM, C:P, and SiO

    Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly spread around the world since December 2019, becoming a global pandemic. Atypical cases of COVID-19, manifesting as prolonged positive SARS-CoV-2 test results during the convalescence period, have been encountered. These cases increase the difficulty of COVID-19 prevention and treatment. Here, we report five cases of COVID-19 patients who demonstrated prolonged positive SARS-CoV-2 tests after regular traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine treatments. After administration of Pien-Tze-Huang and cessation of previous treatments, SARS-CoV-2 tests results of the patients turned and remained negative. We believe the finding will contribute to a better understanding of atypical COVID-19 cases and hope to offer a potential therapy. Since this is a preliminary case series, larger-scale clinical trials are warranted.

    Abstract The impact of shale gas extraction on surrounding environmental media remains unclear. In this study, the current state of contamination by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are high-frequency contaminants of shale gas, was investigated in the soil surrounding emerging shale gas development sites. The source analysis of PAHs was conducted in the soils of shale gas extraction sites using positive matrix factorization (PMF). The health risk assessment (HRA) was calculated for ingestion, dermal contact, and inhalation exposures, and the priority sources of PAHs in the soil were jointly identified by PMF and HRA to refine the contribution level of different individual PAHs to the carcinogenic risk. The results showed that both Sichuan and Chongqing mining site soils were contaminated to different degrees. Shale gas extraction has an impact on the surrounding soil, and the highest contributing source of PAHs in the mining site soil of Sichuan was anthropogenic activity, accounting for 31.6%, whereas that in the mining site soil of Chongqing was biomass combustion and mixed automobile combustion, accounting for 35.9%. At the two mining sites in Sichuan and Chongqing, none of the three exposure pathways (ingestion, dermal contact, and inhalation) posed a carcinogenic risk to children, whereas the dermal exposure pathway posed a carcinogenic risk to adults. Health risk assessments based on specific source assignments indicate that when managing soil pollution, the control of fossil fuel combustion and vehicular emissions should be prioritized.

    Abstract The oscillation phenomena associated with the control of voltage source converters (VSCs) are widely concerning, and locating the source of these oscillations is crucial to suppressing them; therefore, this paper presents a locating scheme, based on the energy structure and nonlinearity detection. On the one hand, the energy structure, which conforms with the principle of the energy-based method and dissipativity theory, is constructed to describe the transient energy flow for VSCs, and on this basis, a defined characteristic quantity is implemented to narrow the scope of oscillation source location; on the other hand, according to the self-sustained oscillation characteristics of VSCs, an index for nonlinearity detection is applied to locate the VSCs which produce the oscillation energy. The combination of the energy structure and nonlinearity detection could distinguish the contributions of different VSCs to the oscillation. The results of a case study implemented by the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation validate the proposed scheme.

    Abstract We analyzed the levels, spatial distribution, impact factors, source apportionment, and potential health implications of trace elements (V, Zn, Cu, Mn, Ni, Mo, and Co) in 1202 human hair samples of urban residents aged 4-55 from 29 cities in China. The median values of seven trace elements in hair were found in the following increasing order: Co (0.02 μg/g) < V (0.04 μg/g) < Mo (0.05 μg/g) < Ni (0.32 μg/g) < Mn (0.74 μg/g) < Cu (9.63 μg/g) < Zn (157 μg/g). The spatial distribution of these trace elements in the hair from the six geographical subdivisions varied depending on the exposure sources and impact factors. Principal component analysis (PCA) revealed that Cu, Zn, and Co in the hair samples of urban residents were primarily derived from food, whereas V, Ni, and Mn were attributed to industrial activities and food. Majority of the hair samples (up to 81%) from North China (NC) exceeded the recommended value for V content, whereas up to 59.2%, 51.3%, and 31.6% samples from Northeast China (NE) exceeded the recommended values for Co, Mn, and Ni contents, respectively. The levels of Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn were significantly higher in female hair than those in male hair, whereas the levels of Mo were higher in male than in female hair (p < 0.01). Furthermore, significantly higher Cu/Zn ratios were observed in the hair of male residents than those in the female residents (p < 0.001), indicating a higher health risk for male residents.

    Abstract Characterization of metal(loid) variation during pregnancy and identification of the affecting factors are important for assessing pregnancy exposures in epidemiological studies. In this study, maternal hair was collected in three segments (each 3 cm) from pregnant women in Guangzhou, China. Ten metal(loid)s, including six essential trace metal(loid)s and four toxic trace metal(loid)s, were analyzed to investigate the levels of various metal(loid)s during pregnancy and the factors that influence them. Strong pairwise correlations were observed between manganese (Mn), cobalt (Co), and vanadium (V), between selenium (Se), arsenic (As), and antimony (Sb), and between cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb). All metal(loid)s except for Se, Mn, and Co showed strong correlations among the three hair segments, and most of the metal(loid)s had good reproducibility, with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) ranging from 0.510 to 0.931, except for As (ICC = 0.334), Mn (ICC = 0.231), and Co (ICC = 0.235). Zn levels decreased, while Sb increased, in maternal hair during pregnancy. Maternal sociodemographic characteristics and dietary intake affected metal(loid) levels in maternal hair. These results provide foundational data for using maternal hair segmental analysis to evaluate exposure variation to metal(loid)s during pregnancy and the potential factors associated with them.

    Abstract We analyzed the levels, spatial distribution, impact factors, source apportionment, and potential health implications of trace elements (V, Zn, Cu, Mn, Ni, Mo, and Co) in 1202 human hair samples of urban residents aged 4–55 from 29 cities in China.
