Abstract Acquired factor XI deficiencies due to factor-specific inhibitors are rare and may be associated with lupus anticoagulant. We report a 63-year-old male with suspected postsurgical bleeding, prior surgical site infection, an isolated prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time, and a positive lupus anticoagulant. Although the factor II assay was normal, factor VIII and IX assays initially demonstrated nonparallelism with factor activity that consistently increased to normal reference ranges with serial dilutions. A discrepancy in factor XI activity results was discovered when the in-house method demonstrated undetectable activity (<3%); send-out testing using different instrument/reagent combinations revealed the presence of factor XI activity between 70% and 76%. The patient received surgical follow-up and was subsequently discharged home. Given the differential in vitro inhibition of factor XI activity on our initial in-house testing, this case highlights the importance of recognizing factor assay interference in the presence of a known lupus anticoagulant inhibitor, with strategies to mitigate potentially erroneous results.

    Abstract The $J/\psi \to \Xi^0 \bar{\Xi}^{0}$ process and subsequent decays are investigated using $(10087 \pm 44)\times 10^6$ $J/\psi$ events collected at the BESIII experiment. The decay parameters of $\Xi^0$ and $\bar{\Xi}^0$ are measured with greatly improved precision over previous measurements to be $\alpha_{\Xi} = -0.3750 \pm 0.0034 \pm 0.0016$, $\bar{\alpha}_{\Xi} = 0.3790 \pm 0.0034 \pm 0.0021$, $\phi_{\Xi} = 0.0051 \pm 0.0096 \pm 0.0018$~rad, $\bar{\phi}_{\Xi} = -0.0053 \pm 0.0097 \pm 0.0019$~rad, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. From these measurements, precise $CP$ symmetry tests in $\Xi^0$ decay are performed, and $A^{\Xi}_{CP} = (-5.4 \pm 6.5 \pm 3.1) \times 10^{-3}$ and $\Delta\phi^{\Xi}_{CP} = (-0.1 \pm 6.9 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{-3}$~rad are consistent with $CP$ conservation. The sequential decay also enables a separation of weak and strong phase differences, which are found for the first time to be $\xi_{P}-\xi_{S} = (0.0 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-2}$~rad and $\delta_{P}-\delta_{S} = (-1.3 \pm 1.7 \pm 0.4)\times 10^{-2}$~rad, respectively. In addition, we measure the $\Lambda$ decay parameters and test $CP$ symmetry in $\Lambda$ decays.

Abstract When a familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) patient's rectal polyp undergoes malignant transformation, the surgeon needs to consider how to balance the quality of surgery with the patient's quality of life. Here, we present a case of robotic surgery in a patient with familial adenomatous polyposis and ultra-low rectal cancer. Fiberoptic colonoscopy found that hundreds of polyp-like bulges were diffusely distributed throughout the colon, and a malignant mass was found at the end of the rectum. The patient underwent total colectomy with abdominoperineal extended radical resection for rectal cancer using the Xi robotic platform. The patient recovered well in the postoperative period. The ileostomy was well used. And the patient was in good health and metastasis free at 9 months postoperatively. We identified total colectomy combined with extended radical rectal resection under the assistance of the da Vinci robot platform is of great benefit to the patient.

Abstract The $\Xi^0$ asymmetry parameters are measured using entangled quantum $\Xi^0$-$\bar{\Xi}^0$ pairs from a sample of $(448.1 \pm 2.9) \times 10^6$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. The relative phase between the transition amplitudes of the $\Xi^0 \bar{\Xi}^0$ helicity states is measured to be $\Delta \Phi = -0.050 \pm 0.150 \pm 0.020$~rad, which implies that there is no obvious polarization at the current level of statistics. The decay parameters of the $\Xi^0$ hyperon $(\alpha_{\Xi^0}, \alpha_{\bar{\Xi}^0}, \phi_{\Xi^0}, \phi_{\bar{\Xi}^0})$ and the angular distribution parameter $(\alpha_{\psi(3686)})$ and $\Delta \Phi$ are measured simultaneously for the first time. In addition, the $CP$ asymmetry observables are determined to be $A^{\Xi^0}_{CP} = (\alpha_{\Xi^0} + \alpha_{\bar{\Xi}^0})/(\alpha_{\Xi^0} - \alpha_{\bar{\Xi}^0})$ $= -0.007$ $\pm$ 0.082 $\pm$ 0.025 and $\Delta \phi^{\Xi^0}_{CP} = (\phi_{\Xi^0} + \phi_{\bar{\Xi}^0})/2$ $= -0.079$ $\pm$ 0.082 $\pm$ 0.010 rad, which are consistent with $CP$ conservation.

Abstract Objective: To explore the incidence of dementia among elderly people in Xi'an and its related risk factors.
Methods: Subjects that had been studied on the prevalence of dementia were follow-up, and the incidence of dementia, Alzheimer disease (AD) , and vascular dementia (VD) were counted by person-years. The clinical diagnosis on dementia,AD and VD were based upon the 3rd Edition of Diagnostic and Statistical of Manual of Mental Disorder, Revised version (DSM-III-R) and NINCDS-ADRDA criteria.
Results: 2197 subjects of non-dementia being identified in 1998, were re-surveyed in 2001. Out of them, 47 new cases of dementia including 37 cases of AD and 8 cases of VD were identified, with an annual incidence rates of dementia, AD and VD as 0.68%, 0.54% and 0.12% among those of 55 years and over and 0.89%, 0.69% and 0.17% in 65 years and over, respectively. Analysis from single factor logistic regression showed that age and education but not gender were closely related to the occurrence of AD. On the contrary, age, hypertension and stroke were closely related to the occurrence of VD.
Conclusion: The incidence of dementia in the "Xi' an cohort" was similar to that being reported from other countries. AD and VD were an age-related diseases but education seemed to have had great protective effect while lack of formal education served as risk factor to AD.

Abstract To date, research on abalone adhesion has primarily analyzed the organism's adhesion to smooth surfaces, with few studies on adhesion to non-smooth surfaces. The present study examined the surface morphology of the abalone's abdominal foot, followed by measuring the adhesive force of the abalone on a smooth force measuring plate and five force measuring plates with different surface morphologies. Next, the adhesion mechanism of the abdominal foot was analyzed. The findings indicated that the abdominal foot of the abalone features numerous stripe-shaped folds on its surface. The adhesion of the abalone to a fine frosted glass plate, a coarse frosted glass plate, and a quadrangular conical glass plate was not significantly different from that on a smooth glass plate. However, the organism's adhesion to a small lattice pit glass plate and block pattern glass plate was significantly different. The abalone could effectively adhere to the surface of the block pattern glass plate using the elasticity of its abdominal foot during adhesion but experienced difficulty in completely adhering to the surface of the quadrangular conical glass plate. The abdominal foot used its elasticity to form an independent sucker system with each small lattice pit, significantly improving adhesion to the small lattice pit glass plate. The elasticity of the abalone's abdominal foot created difficulty in handling slight morphological size changes in roughness, resulting in no significant differences in its adhesion to the smooth glass plate.
