Abstract This article presents a case study on the risk assessment of geohazards along Cheng-Kun railway line. Cheng-Kun railway passes through a region of highly varied elevation and faults and the operation of Cheng-Kun railway has been frequently interrupted owing to geological disasters. A hybrid method via integrating triangular fuzzy number (TFN) and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) (here after simply call TFN-AHP) into a geographic information system (GIS) is employed in this study to perform the geohazards assessment. The assessment results showed that TFN-AHP with GIS can effectively predict the distribution of geohazards risk in the study region within the last 10 years. The results also showed that the TFN-AHP method is more efficient in identifying high-risk areas compared with using original AHP. Based on the assessment results, prospective management measures to prevent risk are recommended.

Abstract • KEY MESSAGE : The specific dynamic elastic modulus, acoustic radiation, logarithmic decrement, sound transmission parameter, and acoustic conversion efficiency of spruce wood (Picea jezoensis var. microsperma (Lindl.) W.C.Cheng & L.K.Fu) were improved by extraction treatment with deionized water, dichloromethane, benzyl alcohol, and ethanol. A larger improvement was achieved after extraction with benzoyl alcohol and dichloromethane extraction than by using ethanol and deionized water. • CONTEXT : It is necessary to improve the acoustic vibrational properties of wood to solve the problem of resource shortage of wood with excellent acoustic vibrational properties for the soundboards of musical instruments and to improve the use value of wood. • AIMS : The effects of extraction treatment with deionized water, dichloromethane, benzyl alcohol, and ethanol on the acoustic vibrational properties of spruce wood were evaluated. • METHODS : After the acoustic vibrational properties of untreated wood samples were measured using the free-free flexural vibration test method with a fast Fourier transform spectrum analyzer (FFT, CF-5220Z), extraction treatment of the wood samples was separately performed with deionized water, dichloromethane, benzyl alcohol, and ethanol for 15 days at room temperature and pressure, followed by drying. The acoustic vibrational properties of the treated wood samples were then measured, and the effect of extraction treatment on the acoustic vibrational properties was analyzed. • RESULTS : The increase in the specific dynamic elastic modulus was highest (14.5%) after the benzyl alcohol treatment. The acoustic radiation clearly improved after the ethanol treatment (18.1%). The acoustic impedance of the wood treated by dichloromethane extraction decreased significantly (−4.35%), while the logarithmic decrement was significantly reduced (−52.0%) by benzyl alcohol treatment. From the viewpoint of energy utilization, with benzyl alcohol treatment, the acoustic conversion efficiency and transmission parameter increased by 124% and 125%, respectively. • CONCLUSION : The degree of improvement in the acoustic vibrational properties of wood differed depending on the solvent used. Greater improvement was observed after extraction with benzoyl alcohol and dichloromethane as compared to ethanol and deionized water.

Abstract Tsuga longibracteata W. C. Cheng is an endangered coniferous species endemic to China. Here, the complete chloroplast genome of this species was assembled and characterized from high-throughput sequencing data. The circular genome of T. longibracteata was 120,900 bp in size, with a pair of inverted repeat regions of 34,239 bp. The chloroplast genome contains 127 genes including 88 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 34 tRNAs and five rRNAs. Most of genes occurred in a single copy, while 29 PCGs, 11 tRNAs and one rRNA are totally duplicated. The overall AT content of the genome is 60.6%. A phylogenetic tree reconstructed by 20 gymnosperm chloroplast genomes reveals all the species of Pinaceae formed a monophyletic clade with high resolution value and T. longibracteata is most related with T. chinensis. This study will pave the way for future research to understand the genomic information and conservation of this endangered endemic relict plant.

Abstract: ... components in Coptis deltoidea C. Y. cheng et Hsiao (CCY) and Coptis chinensis Franch (CF ...

Abstract A ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS) method was successfully developed and validated for the identification and determination of eight alkaloids: tetrahydropalmatine (A); palmatine (B); magnoflorine (C); columbamine (D); berberine (E); worenine (F); berberrubine (G) and coptisine (H) in rat plasma, which are the active components in Coptis deltoidea C. Y. cheng et Hsiao (CCY) and Coptis chinensis Franch (CF). The chromatographic separation of analytes was successfully achieved on an Agilent SB-C18 column (1.8 µm, 150 mm × 2.1 mm) using a programme with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and water containing 0.3% acetic acid at a flow rate of 0.25 mL/min. The analytes were detected with a triple quadrupole tandem MS in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode and an electrospray ionization (ESI) source in positive mode. The validated method showed good linearity over a wide concentration range (r² > 0.991), and lower limits of quantification (LLOQ) less than 1.1 ng/mL for all analytes, and matrix effects ranged from 85.2% to 106.8%. The mean extraction recoveries were no less than 86.4%, and the precision and accuracy were within the acceptable limits. All analytes were proven to be stable during sample storage and analysis procedures. The method validation results demonstrated that the proposed method was sensitive, specific, and reliable, which could lay a foundation for the pharmacokinetic study of eight analytes after oral administration of CCY and CF in subsequent studies.
