    Abstract Background and purpose: Most patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) do not receive prenatal diagnosis. Our aim was to describe MR imaging findings to determine the following: 1. Whether normal fetal MR imaging is more common in fetuses imaged at ≤24 weeks' gestation compared with >24 weeks 2. The frequency of cardiac rhabdomyoma 3. The range of MR imaging phenotypes in fetal tuberous sclerosis complex.
    Materials and methods: Our institutional fetal MR imaging data base was searched between January 1, 2011 and June 30, 2021, for cases of TSC confirmed either by genetic testing, postnatal imaging, postmortem examination, or composite prenatal imaging findings and family history. A MEDLINE search was performed on June 8, 2021.
    Results: Forty-seven published cases and 4 of our own cases were identified. Normal findings on fetal MR imaging were seen at a lower gestational age (mean, 24.7 [SD, 4.5 ] weeks) than abnormal findings on MR imaging (mean, 30.0 [SD, 5.3] weeks) (
    Conclusions: Fetuses with abnormal cranial MR imaging findings were older than those with negative findings. Fetal hemimegalencephaly and megalencephaly should prompt fetal echocardiography. Cardiac rhabdomyoma was not always present at the time of fetal MR imaging.

    Abstract Regional climate models (RCMs) are indispensable in climate research, albeit often characterized by biased terrestrial precipitation and water budgets. This study identifies excess oceanic evaporation, in conjunction with the RCMs' boundary conditions, as drivers contributing to these biases in RCMs with forced sea surface temperatures in a CORDEX RCM ensemble over Europe. The RCMs are relaxed to the prescribed lateral boundary conditions originating from a global model, effectively matching the driving model's overall atmospheric moisture flux divergence. As a consequence, excess oceanic evaporation results in positive precipitation biases over land due to forced internal recycling of moisture to maintain the overall flux divergence prescribed by the boundary conditions. This systematic behaviour is shown through an analysis of long-term atmospheric water budgets and atmospheric moisture exchange between oceanic and continental areas in a multi-model ensemble.

    Abstract Purpose: An experimental approach was designed to measure the preload force, the coefficient of friction and the component of the tightening torque that is needed to surmount the thread-friction in an implant-abutment-screw complex that includes a carbon-coated screw. With the determined preload values the coefficient of friction was calculated.
    Methods: 25 unused complexes, containing an implant, an abutment and a carbon-coated titanium alloy abutment screw, were tested. A custom load frame with two load cells and associated electronics was used. The threads were not lubricated. All abutment screws were torqued ten times to 25 Ncm. The produced preload values and a force that was proportional to the thread-friction component of the tightening torque were recorded.
    Results: Mean preload values decreased significantly with the number of repetitions (p < 0.0001) from initially 329.9 N ± 33.3 (range 255.7 to 383.9) to 253.7 N ± 36.8 (range 200.1 to 332.5) for the last tightening procedure. The corresponding change in the calculated coefficient of friction was 0.33 ± 0.04 (range 0.28 to 0.43) to 0.44 ± 0.07 (range 0.32 to 0.56). For the thread-friction no corresponding trend for consecutive tightening repetitions could be noticed.
    Conclusions: In the investigated implant-abutment units, repeated use of a coated abutment screw appears to increase the friction of the screw head and thereby decrease the preload. These results indicate that a pre-used coated implant-abutment-screw will fail reaching optimal screw preload.

    Abstract It has been suggested that visual images are memorized across brief periods of time by vividly imagining them as if they were still there. In line with this, the contents of both working memory and visual imagery are known to be encoded already in early visual cortex. If these signals in early visual areas were indeed to reflect a combined imagery and memory code, one would predict them to be weaker for individuals with reduced visual imagery vividness. Here, we systematically investigated this question in two groups of participants. Strong and weak imagers were asked to remember images across brief delay periods. We were able to reliably reconstruct the memorized stimuli from early visual cortex during the delay. Importantly, in contrast to the prediction, the quality of reconstruction was equally accurate for both strong and weak imagers. The decodable information also closely reflected behavioral precision in both groups, suggesting it could contribute to behavioral performance, even in the extreme case of completely aphantasic individuals. Our data thus suggest that working memory signals in early visual cortex can be present even in the (near) absence of phenomenal imagery.

    Abstract The Kemeny Rank Aggregation (KRA) problem is a well-studied problem in the field of Social Choice with a variety of applications in many different areas like databases and search engines. Intuitively, given a set of votes over a set of candidates, the problem asks to find an aggregated ranking of candidates that minimizes the overall dissatisfaction concerning the votes. Recently, a diverse version of KRA was considered which asks for a sufficiently diverse set of sufficiently good solutions. The framework of diversity of solutions is a young and thriving topic in the field of artificial intelligence. The main idea is to provide the user with not just one, but with a set of different solutions, enabling her to pick a sufficiently good solution that satisfies additional subjective criteria that are hard or impossible to model. In this work, we use a quantum annealer to solve the KRA problem and to compute a representative set of solutions. Quantum annealing is a meta search heuristic that does not only show promising runtime behavior on currently existing prototypes but also samples the solutions space in an inherently different way, making use of quantum effects. We describe how KRA instances can be solved by a quantum annealer and provide an implementation as well as experimental evaluations. As existing quantum annealers are still restricted in their number of qubits, we further implement two different data reduction rules that can split an instance into a set of smaller instances. In our evaluation, we compare classical heuristics that allow to sample multiple solutions such as simulated annealing and local search with quantum annealing performed on a physical quantum annealer. We compare runtime, quality of solution, and diversity of solutions, with and without applying preceding data reduction rules.

    Abstract Many studies have identified networks in parietal and prefrontal cortex that are involved in intentional action. Yet, our understanding of the way these networks are involved in intentions is still very limited. In this study, we investigate two characteristics of these processes: context- and reason-dependence of the neural states associated with intentions. We ask whether these states depend on the context a person is in and the reasons they have for choosing an action. We used a combination of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and multivariate decoding to directly assess the context- and reason-dependency of the neural states underlying intentions. We show that action intentions can be decoded from fMRI data based on a classifier trained in the same context and with the same reason, in line with previous decoding studies. Furthermore, we found that intentions can be decoded across different reasons for choosing an action. However, decoding across different contexts was not successful. We found anecdotal to moderate evidence against context-invariant information in all regions of interest and for all conditions but one. These results suggest that the neural states associated with intentions are modulated by the context of the action.

    Abstract Background: In implant prosthetic dentistry, the adhesive connection of individualized ceramic crowns and prefabricated titanium bases leads to several benefits. However, the durability of the bonding could be a weak point and especially depends on sufficient surface pretreatment. Cold atmospheric-pressure plasma (CAP) is a pretreatment method that should improve the surface properties without physical damage. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of CAP treatment on pull-off tensile load in two-piece abutment crowns.
    Methods: Eighty zirconia crowns and titanium bases were divided into eight groups (n = 10) according to their surface pretreatment prior to cementation with Panavia V5: no treatment (A); sandblasting (B); 10-MDP primer (C); sandblasting and primer (D); CAP (AP); sandblasting and CAP (BP); CAP and primer (CP); sandblasting, CAP and primer (DP). The specimens were thermocycled (5°/55°, 5000 cycles), and then the pull-off tensile load (TL) was measured. Statistical analyses were performed using three-way ANOVA with Tukey post-hoc and Fisher's exact tests.
    Results: The results showed that the TL was highest in group D (p < 0.0001). Some combinations of different treatments led to effects that were greater than the sum of the individual effects. These effects were modified by interactions. Only in combination with primer, CAP treatment had a small but positive significant effect (group CP vs. C and CP vs. AP, p < 0.0001) which however did not come close to the strong interaction effect that resulted from the combination of sandblasting and primer.
    Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, CAP treatment cannot be recommended in this specific field of indication due to its unreliable influence on TL in combination with other pretreatment methods.
