Abstract The vegetable oil degumming process plays a critical role in refining edible oil. Phospholipids (PL) removal from crude extracted soybean oil (SBO) by the enzymatic degumming process has been investigated in this work. Enzymatic degumming of extracted SBO with microbial phospholipase A1 PLA-1 Quara LowP and Lecitase Ultra enzymes have also been studied comparatively. The main novelty of our work is the use of the enzymatic degumming process on an industrial scale (600 tons a day). Many parameters have been discussed to understand in detail the factors affecting oil losses during the degumming process. The factors such as chemical conditioning (CC) by phosphoric acid 85%, the enzyme dosage mg/kg (feedstock dependent), the enzymatic degumming reaction time, and the characteristics of the plant-processed SBO have been discussed in detail. As a main point, the degummed oil with a phosphorus content of < 10 mg/kg increases yield. Quara LowP and Lecitase Ultra enzymes are not specific for certain phospholipids PL; however, the conversion rate depends on the SBO phospholipid composition. After 4 h, over 99% of Phospholipids were degraded to their lysophospholipid LPL (lysolecithin). The results showed a significant effect of operating parameters and characteristics of different origins of SBO, fatty acids FFA content, Phosphorus content and total divalent metals (Calcium Ca, Magnesium Mg and Iron Fe mg/kg) content on the oil loss. The benefit of using enzymatic degumming of vegetable oils rather than traditional chemical refining is that the enzymatic degumming process reduces total oil loss. This decrease is known as enzymatic yield. The enzymatic degumming also decreases wastewater and used chemicals and running costs; moreover, it enables physical refining by lowering the residue phosphorus to < 10 mg/kg.

Abstract The spread of antibiotic-resistant opportunistic microbes is a huge socioeconomic burden and a growing concern for global public health. In the current study, two endophytic fungal strains were isolated from Mangifera Indica roots and identified as Aspergillus niger MT597434.1 and Trichoderma lixii KU324798.1. Secondary metabolites produced by A. niger and T. lixii were extracted and tested for their antimicrobial activity. The highest activity was noticed against Staphylococcus aureus and E. coli treated with A. niger and T. lixii secondary metabolites, respectively. A. niger crude extract was mainly composed of Pentadecanoic acid, 14-methyl-, methyl ester and 9-Octadecenoic acid ( Z )-, methyl ester (26.66 and 18.01%, respectively), while T. lixii crude extract’s major components were 2,4-Decadienal, ( E , E ) and 9-Octadecenoic acid ( Z )-, and methyl ester (10.69 and 10.32%, respectively). Moreover, a comparative study between the fungal extracts and dicationic pyridinium iodide showed that the combination of A. niger and T. lixii secondary metabolites with dicationic pyridinium iodide compound showed a synergistic effect against Klebsiella pneumoniae . The combined formulae inhibited the bacterial growth after 4 to 6 h through cell wall breakage and cells deformation, with intracellular components leakage and increased ROS production.

    Abstract: Abstract In the present investigation, two sets of pure and substituted ferrite- and manganite-based mixed oxides were prepared within the stoichiometric formula $$A_{1 - x} A^{\prime}_{x} B_{1 - x} B^{\prime}_{x} O_{3}$$ A 1 - x A x ′ B 1 - x B x ′ O 3 , ...

Abstract Abstract In the present investigation, two sets of pure and substituted ferrite- and manganite-based mixed oxides were prepared within the stoichiometric formula $$A_{1 - x} A^{\prime}_{x} B_{1 - x} B^{\prime}_{x} O_{3}$$ A 1 - x A x ′ B 1 - x B x ′ O 3 , where A = Bi or La, A ′ = Sr, B = Fe or Mn, B′ = Co, x = 0 or 0.2, by calcination at 700 °C (for 1 h) of corresponding metal citrate xerogels. Materials thus obtained were examined for bulk and surface characteristics using X-ray diffractometry, ex situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and N2 sorptiometry. Their redox catalytic activity was evaluated towards a 2-propanol dehydrogenation reaction in the gas phase by employing in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results obtained could help reveal that (1) the presence of Bi (versus La) and Mn (versus Fe) facilitated the formation of polymeric crystalline phases assuming lattice-charge imbalance (due to excess positive charge), (2) the surface exposure of the excess positive charge was manifested in the generation of Mn sites having various oxidation states ≥ 3+, (3) the consequent development of visible light absorptions at 498–555 nm suggested occurrence of electron double-exchange facilitated by the formation of Mnn+–O2−–Mn(n+1)+ Zener-type linkages, and (4) the exposure of such linkages at the surface warrants the establishment of the electron-mobile environment necessitated by the redox catalytic activity. Moreover, the relationship between the alcohol dehydrogenation activity and the magnitude of the lattice-charge imbalance (i.e., the net excess positive charge) of the catalysts was highlighted.
