Abstract Objectives: In comparison to the subjects without diabetes, a greater concentration of serum carbohydrate antigen 19 - 9 (CA 19 - 9) was observed in the subjects with diabetes. Nevertheless, since the occurrence of abnormal CA 19 - 9 is not widespread among the whole diabetic population, this phenomenon has not attracted enough attention. The prevalence of abnormal CA 19 - 9 in hospitalized patients with diabetes was the focus of our research.
Method: A total of 385 subjects with diabetes and 200 controls were enrolled and all had been tested the CA19-9 levels. Cases of cancers were excluded through examination and followup for 1 year.
Results: We found that the rate of patients with abnormal CA19-9 level was 8.3%. The rate of patients with abnormal CA19-9 level was 14.0% in the HbA1c ≥ 9% group, and 3.0% in the HbA1c < 9% group, 2.5% in the control group. There was no significant difference in the HbA1c < 9% group and the control group. A significant correlation between serum CA19-9 and both HbA1c and total cholesterol was observed, yet no difference in CRP level was observed between subjects with normal CA19-9 level and subjects with abnormal CA19-9 level. However, a significant difference in fasting C-peptide levels was observed between the two groups, p = 0.039.
Conclusion: The percentage of patients with diabetes exhibiting elevated CA19-9 level is 14% in the HbA1c ≥ 9% diabetic patients, much higher than expected. The underlying mechanism may be related to islet injury caused by glycotoxicity and lipotoxicity.
Strengths and limitations of the study: We studied the rate of hospitalized diabetic patients with elevated CA 19 - 9 which were characterized with poorly controlled blood glucose. We found that the elevation of CA 19 - 9 was unexpectedly high in diabetic inpatients without development to cancer. The limitation of this study is that the underlying mechanism is not sufficiently studied.

Abstract An efficient method has been developed for reacting dialkyl H-phosphonates or diarylphosphine oxides with alcohols for constructing C-P bonds. This reaction was catalyzed by Lewis acid and involved nucleophilic substitution. A series of diphenylphosphonates and diphenylphosphine oxides were obtained, from the phosphorylation of alcohols, with good-to-excellent yields.

Abstract Background: Depression is closely linked to an imbalance in the autonomic nervous system (ANS). However, the role of this imbalance in mediating the effects of sleep deprivation (SD) and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) on emotional well-being is not fully understood.
Methods: A population-based analysis was conducted to explore the relationship between sleep duration, depression scores, and heart rate variability (HRV). Additionally, the chronic SD mouse model was established to assess the impact of preventive transcutaneous auricular VNS (taVNS) on pathological and behavioral changes.
Results: Our study found a significant link between sleep duration, depression severity, and HRV. Shorter sleep duration was associated with higher depression scores and lower RMSSD (a measure of HRV). In our rat model, insufficient sleep consistently impaired HRV. This effect was mitigated by taVNS, accompanied by corresponding changes in levels of IL-1β and IL-6, astrocyte and microglia activation, and tail suspension times.
Conclusions: Using VNS as a preventive treatment for depression-risk individuals with insufficient sleep shows promise. It not only broadens the potential applications of VNS but also sheds light on its mechanism-particularly its role in enhancing vagal nerve function and balancing the ANS, as evidenced by HRV measurements.

Abstract Multivalent-ion batteries have garnered significant attention due to their high energy density, low cost, and superior safety. Calcium-ion batteries (CIBs) are regarded as the next-generation energy storage systems for their abundant natural resources and bivalent characteristics. However, the absence of high-performance anode materials poses a significant obstacle to the progress of battery technology. Two-dimensional (2D) Dirac materials have excellent conductivity and abundant active sites, rendering them promising candidates as anode materials. A novel 2D Dirac material known as "graphene+" has been theoretically reported, exhibiting prominent properties including good stability, exceptional ductility, and remarkable electronic conductivity. By using first-principles calculations, we systematically investigate the performance of graphene+ as an anode material for CIBs. Graphene+ exhibits an ultra-high theoretical capacity (1487.7 mA h g

Abstract With the increase in the number of high-dimensional data, the characteristic phenomenon of unbalanced distribution is increasingly presented in various big data applications. At the same time, most of the existing clustering and feature selection algorithms are based on maximizing the clustering accuracy. In addition, the hybrid approach can effectively solve the clustering problem of unbalanced data. Aiming at the shortcomings of the unbalanced data clustering algorithm, a hybrid high-dimensional multi-objective PSO clustering algorithm is proposed based on the cloud model and entropy (HHCE-MOPSO). Furthermore, the feasibility of the hybrid PSO is verified by the simulation of the multi-objective test function. The results not only broaden the new theory and method of clustering algorithm for unbalanced data, but also verify the accuracy and feasibility of the hybrid PSO. Furthermore, the clustering analysis method based on information entropy is a new method. As a result, the research results have both important scientific value and good practical significance.
