Abstract Quantum key distribution (QKD) is an attractive technology for distributing secret encryption keys between distant users. The decoy-state technique has drastically improved its practicality and performance, and has been widely adopted in commercial systems. However, conventional intensity modulators can introduce security side channels in high speed QKD systems because of their non-stationary working points for decoy-state generation. Here, we analyze the transfer function of an in-phase/quadrature (IQ) modulator and reveal its superiority for stable decoy-state generation, followed by an experimental demonstration. Thanks to their convenient two-level modulation and inherent high speed, IQ modulators are ideal for use in high-speed decoy-state QKD systems.

Abstract Twin-field (TF) quantum key distribution (QKD) has rapidly risen as the most viable solution to long-distance secure fibre communication thanks to its fundamentally repeater-like rate-loss scaling. However, its implementation complexity, if not successfully addressed, could impede or even prevent its advance into real-world. To satisfy its requirement for twin-field coherence, all present setups adopted essentially a gigantic, resource-inefficient interferometer structure that lacks scalability that mature QKD systems provide with simplex quantum links. Here we introduce a technique that can stabilise an open channel without using a closed interferometer and has general applicability to phase-sensitive quantum communications. Using locally generated frequency combs to establish mutual coherence, we develop a simple and versatile TF-QKD setup that does not need service fibre and can operate over links of 100 km asymmetry. We confirm the setup's repeater-like behaviour and obtain a finite-size rate of 0.32 bit/s at a distance of 615.6 km.

Abstract High-throughput stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy is highly desired for large tissue imaging with chemical specificity. However, the mapping speed remains as the major short board of conventional SRS, primarily owing to the mechanical inertia existing in galvanometers or other laser scanning alternatives. Here, we developed inertia-free acousto-optic deflector (AOD)-based high-speed large-field stimulated Raman scattering microscopy, in which both the speed and integration time are ensured by immune of the mechanical response time. To avoid laser beam distortion induced by the intrinsic spatial dispersion of AODs, two spectral compression systems are implemented to compress the broad-band femtosecond pulse to picosecond laser. We achieved an SRS imaging of a 12 × 8 mm

Abstract Defect detection on magnetic tile surfaces is of great significance for the production monitoring of permanent magnet motors. However, it is challenging to detect the surface defects from the magnetic tile due to these issues: 1) Defects appear randomly on the surface of the magnetic tile; 2) the defects are tiny and often overwhelmed by the background. To address such problems, an Adaptive Rotation Attention Network (ARA-Net) is proposed for defect detection on the magnetic tile surface, where the Adaptive Rotation Convolution (ARC) module is devised to capture the random defects on the magnetic tile surface by learning multi-view feature maps, and then the Rotation Region Attention (RAA) module is designed to locate the small defects from the complicated background by focusing more attention on the defect features. Experiments conducted on the MTSD3C6K dataset demonstrate the proposed ARA-Net outperforms the state-of-the-art methods, further providing assistance for permanent magnet motor monitoring.
