Abstract A recurring challenge of crowdsourcing NLP datasets at scale is that human writers often rely on repetitive patterns when crafting examples, leading to a lack of linguistic diversity. We introduce a novel approach for dataset creation based on worker and AI collaboration, which brings together the generative strength of language models and the evaluative strength of humans. Starting with an existing dataset, MultiNLI for natural language inference (NLI), our approach uses dataset cartography to automatically identify examples that demonstrate challenging reasoning patterns, and instructs GPT-3 to compose new examples with similar patterns. Machine generated examples are then automatically filtered, and finally revised and labeled by human crowdworkers. The resulting dataset, WANLI, consists of 107,885 NLI examples and presents unique empirical strengths over existing NLI datasets. Remarkably, training a model on WANLI instead of MultiNLI (which is $4$ times larger) improves performance on seven out-of-domain test sets we consider, including by 11% on HANS and 9% on Adversarial NLI. Moreover, combining MultiNLI with WANLI is more effective than combining it with other NLI augmentation sets. Our results demonstrate the potential of natural language generation techniques to curate NLP datasets of enhanced quality and diversity.

Abstract Recently, deep neural network (DNN) studies on direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimations have attracted more and more attention. This new method gives an alternative way to deal with DOA problem and has successfully shown its potential application. However, these works are often restricted to previously known signal number, same signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or large intersignal angular distance, which will hinder their generalization in real application. In this paper, we present a novel DNN framework that realizes higher resolution and better generalization to random signal number and SNR. Simulation results outperform that of previous works and reach the state of the art.

Abstract Increasing dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in groundwater as a carbon source for microorganisms that stimulate nitrate attenuation is considered a sustainable strategy to mitigate nitrate pollution in groundwater. However, little is known on the stoichiometric ratio of DOC and nitrate required in groundwater nitrate reduction processes, which has become an obstacle for evaluating the current status of DOC limitations on nitrate reduction. Here, the NO

Abstract Due to traditional classification methods' limitations, some cryptic species remain undiscovered. To better explore the existence of the Schrenck salamander (Salamandrella tridactyla, a cryptic species of Siberian salamander S. keyserlingii) in China, we conducted a molecular phylogenetic analysis to confirm the taxonomic relationship among Salamandrella species and investigate genetic variation. We used complete sequences of the mitochondrial COI gene from 65 specimens collected across a wide range in Northeastern China. Thirty-five haplotypes were obtained from six populations. They showed medium-high haplotype diversity (Hd) and low nucleotide polymorphism (π). The phylogenetic tree and haplotype network analysis revealed that populations from Greater Khingan Ridge (Huma: HM) and Lesser Khingan Ridge (Tieli: TL) belong to S. keyserlingii, while populations from Changbai Mountain (Shangzhi-zhuziying: SZ, Shangzhi-cuijia: SC, Hailin: HL, and Baishan: BS) belong to S. tridactyla. This indicates the monophyly of Salamandrella and each of the two species. There was a substantial level of genetic differentiation between different species and within populations of the same species. This differentiation was significantly related to geographical distance. At last, the mismatch distribution and neutrality analyses indicated that the TL populations have undergone expansion of history. The study supplements the distributional range of Schrenck salamander. And it provides a theoretical basis for species conservation of Salamandrella species.
