Abstract Triiodothyronine (T3) is critical to osteogenesis, which is the key factor in bone growth. Our transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis results indicated that T3 leads to enhanced expression of G protein-coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER1) as well as increases in glycolysis metabolite levels. Accordingly, our study aimed to explore the role of GPER1-mediated glycolysis in T3-regulated osteogenesis. The MC3T3-E1 cell line was used as an osteoblast precursor model. After treatment with T3, a GPER1-specific antagonist (G15) and inhibitor of glycolysis (3PO) were used to explore the roles of GPER1 and glycolysis in T3-regulated osteogenesis, as measured by ALP activity, Alizarin red staining intensity and osteogenic molecule expression. Our results showed that T3 promoted osteogenesis-related activity, which was reversed by treatment with G15. In addition, T3 enhanced the glycolytic potential and production of lactic acid (LD) in MC3T3-E1 cells, and treatment with G15 restored the aforementioned effects of T3. Ultimately, the pharmacological inhibition of glycolysis with 3PO blocked the ability of T3 to enhance osteogenic activities. In conclusion, GPER1 mediates glycolysis in osteoblast precursors, which is critical for T3-promoted osteogenesis.

Abstract Gut microbial β-glucuronidases (gmβ-GUS) played crucial roles in regulating a variety of endogenous substances and xenobiotics on the circulating level, thus had been recognized as key modulators of drug toxicity and human diseases. Inhibition or inactivation of gmβ-GUS enzymes has become a promising therapeutic strategy to alleviate drug-induced intestinal toxicity. Herein, the Rhodiola crenulata extract (RCE) was found with potent and broad-spectrum inhibition on multiple gmβ-GUS enzymes. Subsequently, the anti-gmβ-GUS activities of the major constituents in RCE were tested and the results showed that 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-β-d-glucopyranose (PGG) acted as a strong and broad-spectrum inhibitor on multiple gmβ-GUS (including EcGUS, CpGUS, SaGUS, and EeGUS). Inhibition kinetic assays demonstrated that PGG effectively inhibited four gmβ-GUS in a non-competitive manner, with the K

Abstract This qualitative study aimed to explore characteristics that sustain therapists' resilience over years of practice. Ten highly resilient therapists were recruited during two phases of sample screening: peer nomination and the use of quantitative scales. Data were collected through in-person interviews and analyzed using grounded theory. Results as characteristics showed that highly resilient therapists are (a) drawn to strong interpersonal relationships, (b) actively engage with self, (c) possess a core values and beliefs framework, and (d) desire to learn and grow. The authors identified a central characteristic that interlinks with each characteristic: have a strong web of vibrant connectedness. Implications for counselor resilience development, training, and supervision are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved).

Abstract Curettage of benign bone tumor is a common cause for bone defect. For such bone defect repair, autogenous bone, allogeneic bone and traditional artificial bone graft substitutes have many disadvantages. In recent years, a biomimetic mineralized collagen (MC) with similar composition and microstructures to the natural bone matrix was developed and used for treating various bone defects. In this work, a retrospective study analyzed clinical outcomes of patients treated with curettage of benign bone tumors and bone grafting with MC, in comparison to another group treated with the same surgical method and autogenous bone. Lane-Sandhu X-ray score of the autogenous bone group was superior to the MC group at 1 month after the operation, but the two groups had no statistical difference at 6 and 12 months. The MC group was better in Musculoskeletal Tumor Society scoring at 1 and 6 months after the operation, and the two groups had no statistical difference at 12 month. Therefore, the MC performed not as good as autogenous bone in early stage of bone healing but achieved comparable outcomes in long-term follow-ups. Moreover, the MC has advantages in function recovery and avoided potential complications induced by harvesting autogenous bone.

Abstract The proper treatment of municipal solid waste incineration fly ash (MSWIFA) is a crucial concern due to its hazardous nature and potential environmental harm. To address this issue, this study innovatively utilized dravite and black liquor to solidify MSWIFA. The semi-dry pressing method was employed, resulting in the production of waste alkali-activated cementing material (WACM). This material demonstrated impressive compressive and flexural strength, reaching 45.89 MPa and 6.55 MPa respectively, and effectively solidified heavy metal ions (Pb, Cr, Cu, Cd, and Zn). The leaching concentrations of these ions decreased from 27.15, 10.36, 8.94, 7.00, and 104.4 mg/L to 0.13, 1.05, 0.29, 0.06, and 12.28 mg/L, respectively. The strength of WACM increased by 3 times compared to conventionally produced materials. Furthermore, WACM exhibited excellent long-term performance, with acceptable heavy metal leaching and minimal mechanical degradation. Experimental and theoretical analyses revealed the heavy metal solidification mechanisms, including chemical binding, ion substitution and physical encapsulation. Finally, the on-site application of WACM confirmed its feasibility in meeting both environmental and strength requirements.

Abstract Objective: We sought to examine the independent correlates of long-term hospitalization in a sample of Chinese inpatients with schizophrenia (SCZ) from a gender-based perspective.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study that was carried out in a tertiary psychiatric hospital. All adult inpatients in this hospital were screened from January to March 2020, 251 of whom were identified as long-stay inpatients with SCZ (LSIS) and 224 as short-stay inpatients with SCZ (SSIS). Demographic and clinical information of the two groups was collected through medical records, scale assessments and interviews. Gender differences were analyzed, and independent correlates of long-stay between genders were explored by logistic regression analyses.
Results: Compared to SSIS, greater proportions of LSIS patients were male (64.1%), single (82.1%), unemployed (81.7%) and had no family caregivers (54.2%). For LSIS per se, proportionally more males were single (88.8%), had no family caregiver (65.8%), had concomitant physical disease (65.2%) and had a history of hazardous behavior (27.3%) than their female counterparts. For females, the top independent risk factors for a long stay included poor functioning (
Conclusions: Both clinical and nonclinical factors play important roles in long-term hospitalization in Chinese patients with schizophrenia. There are overlaps and distinctions across genders with respect to the independent factors of long stays. These findings provide clues for developing better service strategies for this population, and highlight the importance of paying attention to gender differences in further research in this field.

Similar to women, both older age (OR = 5.3, 95% CI: 2.5-11.2) and poor functioning (OR = 4.0, 95% CI: 2.1-7.9) were also independent factors for long-term hospitalization of male patients; however, having no family caregiver (OR = 10.2, 95% CI: 4.6-22.6) was the primary risk factor for men. Both clinical and nonclinical factors play important roles in long-term hospitalization in Chinese patients with schizophrenia. There are overlaps and distinctions across genders with respect to the independent factors of long stays. These findings provide clues for developing better service strategies for this population, and highlight the importance of paying attention to gender differences in further research in this field.

Abstract This work investigates the effect of the surface charges of oil droplets and carbonate rocks in brine and in surfactant solutions on oil production. The influences of the cations in brine and the surfactant types on the zeta-potentials of both oil droplets and carbonate rock particles are studied. It is found that the addition of anionic and cationic surfactants in brine result in both negative or positive zeta-potentials of rock particles and oil droplets respectively, while the zwitterionic surfactant induces a positive charge on rock particles and a negative charge on oil droplets. Abstract Genomic selection (GS) has great potential to increase genetic gain in poultry breeding. However, the performance of genomic prediction in duck growth and breast morphological (BM) traits remains largely unknown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the benefits of genomic prediction for duck growth and BM traits using methods such as GBLUP, single-step GBLUP, Bayesian models, and different marker densities. This study collected phenotypic data for 14 growth and BM traits in a crossbreed population of 1893 Pekin duck × mallard, which included 941 genotyped ducks. The estimation of genetic parameters indicated high heritabilities for body weight (0.54-0.72), whereas moderate-to-high heritabilities for average daily gain (0.21-0.57) traits. The heritabilities of BM traits ranged from low to moderate (0.18-0.39). The prediction ability of GS on growth and BM traits increased by 7.6% on average compared to the pedigree-based BLUP method. The single-step GBLUP outperformed GBLUP in most traits with an average of 0.3% higher reliability in our study. Most of the Bayesian models had better performance on predictive reliability, except for BayesR. BayesN emerged as the top-performing model for genomic prediction of both growth and BM traits, exhibiting an average increase in reliability of 3.0% compared to GBLUP. The permutation studies revealed that 50 K markers had achieved ideal prediction reliability, while 3 K markers still achieved 90.8% predictive capability would further reduce the cost for duck growth and BM traits. This study provides promising evidence for the application of GS in improving duck growth and BM traits. Our findings offer some useful strategies for optimizing the predictive ability of GS in growth and BM traits and provide theoretical foundations for designing a low-density panel in ducks.
