Abstract Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) refers to a condition caused by microvascular injury that includes thrombosis, hemolytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. There are two classic TMAs, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, as well as an atypical HUS (aHUS). aHUS includes a broad spectrum of disorders with diverse etiologies and shares clinical manifestations with classic TMA; however, it frequently lacks typical clinical and laboratory findings. These traits can confuse clinicians and pathologists in terms of renal pathologic diagnosis, especially in cases where TMA is associated with other glomerulopathies or hypertensive renal disease. In this review, new paradigms for classifying TMA and the diversity of histopathologic changes including associated renal diseases are discussed. Renal biopsy is an important and useful diagnostic tool for diagnosing TMA and identifying TMA changes in other renal diseases, including hypertension. Adopting the term "TMA features" for TMA-like changes in glomerulus or artery/ arteriole in addition to the pathological diagnosis of glomerulopathy would be informative to clinicians for a prompt diagnosis and treatment of aHUS.

Abstract This study analyzed the spatial distribution patterns of depression among vulnerable elderly across Republic of Korea. The average level of depression in the basic administrative districts was derived using the individual depression scores from the Health Interview Survey data. Results of the spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed that the Moran's I value was 0.3138, indicating the existence of a neighborhood effect in the depression of the vulnerable older adults at the regional level. Subsequently, cluster analysis and one-way ANOVA were conducted for the hot spots where vulnerable older adult depression was concentrated. Based on the cluster analysis results, hot spots were the areas where the facilities that are necessary for the daily lives of older adults were insufficient and were categorized into three types. The findings indicate that environmental characteristics at the regional level should be considered in addition to the environmental characteristics of the house and neighborhood, which have been primarily addressed in previous studies.

Abstract The importance of professional and ethical behavior by physicians both in training and in practice cannot be overemphasized, particularly in pathology. Professionalism education begins in medical school, and professional attitudes and behaviors are further internalized during residency. Learning how to be a professional is a vital part of residency training. While hospital- or institution-based lecture style educational programs exist, they are often ineffective because the curriculum is not applicable to all specialties, although the basic concepts are the same. In this paper, the author suggests ways for institutions to develop professional attitude assessments and to survey residents' responses to various unprofessional situations using case scenarios.

Abstract Introduction: There are limited reports on ovarian neoplasm occurring among identical twins. Most previous reports showed ovarian teratoma found in both twins. Herein, we report for the first time a case of ovarian mucinous cystadenoma with contralateral serous cystadenofibroma found in twin siblings. Case report: One patient suffered from abdominal distension and the following computed tomography found ovarian mucinous cystadenoma. During the laparoscopy, another ovarian mass was found in the contralateral ovary. The histopathology revealed ovarian mucinous cystadenoma with contralateral serous cystadenofibroma. The twin sister had no symptoms but underwent gynecological screening. She also showed a similar finding, mucinous cystadenoma with serous cystadenofibroma on the contralateral ovary. Both patients underwent laparoscopic bilateral ovarian cystectomy. Conclusion: This is the first clinical report on left ovarian mucinous cystadenoma with right serous cystadenofibroma in twin siblings. Our cases support awareness of ovarian tumors in twin sisters.

Abstract Invasive nostocalean cyanobacteria (INC) were first reported in tropical regions and are now globally spreading rapidly due to climate change, appearing in temperate regions. INC require continuous monitoring for water resource management because of their high toxin production potential. However, it is difficult to analyze INC under a microscope because of their morphological similarity to nostocalean cyanobacteria such as the genus

Abstract Purpose: We sought to develop and validate machine learning (ML) models for predicting tumor grade and prognosis using 2-[
Procedures: A total of 58 patients with PNETs who underwent pretherapeutic [
Results: We developed two separate ML models for predicting high-grade tumors (Grade 3) and tumors with poor prognosis (disease progression within two years). The integrated models consisting of clinical and radiomic features with NN algorithm showed the best performances than the other models (stand-alone clinical or radiomics models). The performance metrics of the integrated model by NN algorithm were AUROC of 0.864 in the tumor grade prediction model and AUROC of 0.830 in the prognosis prediction model. In addition, AUROC of the integrated clinico-radiomics model with NN was significantly higher than that of tumor maximum standardized uptake model in predicting prognosis (P < 0.001).
Conclusions: Integration of clinical features and [
