    Abstract Spinal cord injury disrupts the descending command from the brain and causes a range of motor deficits. Here, we use optogenetic tools to investigate the functional plasticity of the glutamatergic reticulospinal drive of the medullary reticular formation after a lateral thoracic hemisection in female mice. Sites evoking stronger excitatory descending drive in intact conditions are the most impaired after injury, whereas those associated with a weaker drive are potentiated. After lesion, pro- and anti-locomotor activities (that is, initiation/acceleration versus stop/deceleration) are overall preserved. Activating the descending reticulospinal drive improves stepping ability on a flat surface of chronically impaired injured mice, and its priming enhances recovery of skilled locomotion on a horizontal ladder. This study highlights the resilience and capacity for reorganization of the glutamatergic reticulospinal command after injury, along with its suitability as a therapeutical target to promote functional recovery.

    Abstract Objectives: Recently, there has been a renewed interest in traditional medicine for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Curcumin has been reported as an agent with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and neuroprotective attributes. This study is one of the first investigations to assess the effect of curcumin gel on CTS.
    Methods: This study is a prospective, 8-week, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group clinical trial. A total of 70 patients with CTS were analyzed. The intervention group (n = 35) received a topical curcumin gel and a night wrist splint and the control group (n = 35) received a placebo gel and a night wrist splint for 8 weeks. The primary outcome was the assessment of the symptom severity scale (SSS) and functional status scale (FSS) of the participants using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) after 8 weeks. In addition, all participants were evaluated by electrodiagnostic (EDX) test at baseline and after 8 weeks.
    Results: The mean scores of SSS demonstrated a significant decrease in the curcumin group compared to the placebo group; P-value= 0.021. The mean change score of SSS after the intervention was 12.45 ± 8.18 in curcumin and 3.28 ± 7.06 in the placebo group; P-value = 0.0001 and the mean change score of FSS were 6.24 ± 4.91 and 2.31 ± 4.95 in curcumin and placebo groups, respectively; P-value = 0.002. However, the EDX study showed no significant changes in both groups.
    Conclusions: It seems that curcumin gel could be effective in the improvement of the symptom severity and daily activity of patients with CTS.

    Abstract Zolpidem is an imidazopyridine derivative and a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic drug. There are several case reports of zolpidem abuse or dependence and zolpidem withdrawal. This study reports a case of paroxysmal tonic spasm (PTS) after abrupt withdrawal of high dose zolpidem. The case was a 21-year- old male patient with complaints of acute involuntary and painful spasms of all extremities after the sudden withdrawal of taking supratherapeutic zolpidem. In his medical records, He had the history of insomnia and psychiatric disorder . The patient's symptoms improved with intravenous injection of 10 mg diazepam slowly and zolpidem was tapered gradually. This case report indicates that zolpidem has a dependency and abusage properties. To the best of our knowledge , this is the first report of zolpidem withdrawal with PTS.

    Abstract Reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndromes (RCVS) show reversible multifocal narrowing of the cerebral arteries with clinical manifestations that characteristically include thunderclap headache and less commonly focal neurologic deficits related to brain edema, stroke, or seizure. RCVS predominantly affects women (female to male ratio 2:1 to 10:1, depending on the case series). The mean age across published studies is 42 to 44 years. RCVS has been associated with a multiplicity of conditions including pregnancy, migraine ,use of vasoconstrictive drugs and other medications, neurosurgical procedures, hypercalcemia, unruptured saccular aneurysms, cervical artery dissection, cerebral venous thrombosis, and others. Between 30 and 70 percent of patients with RCVS have no abnormality on initial brain scans, despite having widespread cerebral vasoconstriction. However, approximately 75 percent of admitted patients eventually develop parenchymal lesions. The most frequent lesions are ischemic stroke and cortical surface (nonaneurysmal or convexal) subarachnoid hemorrhage, followed by reversible vasogenic brain edema and parenchymal hemorrhage. Infarcts are often bilateral and symmetrical, located in arterial "watershed" regions of the cerebral hemispheres or in the cortical-subcortical junction. Larger infarcts are often wedge-shaped. Cerebral angiographic abnormalities are dynamic and progress proximally, resulting in a "sausage on a string" appearance of the circle of Willis arteries and their branches. There is no proven therapy for RCVS. Supportive care is directed towards managing blood pressure, severe headaches, and other complications such as seizures. Oral calcium channel blockers are often administered to treat vasoconstriction but the supporting evidence for this strategy is weak.

    Abstract Pregnant women are at higher risk of getting severe Covid-19 disease and consequences on the health status of them and their fetuses. Despite vaccination, all preventive behaviors are emphasized. This study aimed to identify the determinants of Covid-19 preventive health behaviors in pregnant women using Extended Parallel Process Model. This cross-sectional study, was conducted on 175pregnant women. The model fit indices were acceptable. Knowledge had indirect effect on adherence to Covid-19 preventive behaviors trough mediating role of self-efficacy and response efficacy. So, it is suggested that, educational interventions should focus on increasing knowledge.

    Abstract Background: The most common symptom of the novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection is fever and dyspnea that leads to hypoxia in severe cases. Some COVID-19 patients experience neurological symptoms, including ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage. Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a hypercoagulable state, however, it has not been approved as a significant cause of Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (CVT). Case presentation: In this case report, we described CVT in an SCD patient who had COVID-19, as well. We reported a 32-year-old man with a history of sickle cell anemia presented with left hemiparesis, headache, and seizure. After evaluation of the patient, CVT accompanied by COVID-19 infection was diagnosed. He was treated with intravenous unsaturated heparin, antiepileptic drugs, and antiviral agents with a favorable outcome. Based on our knowledge, this is the first case study to describe an association between CVT and COVID-19 infection in a patient with SCD. Conclusion: During the recent pandemic, vaso-occlusive attacks in SCD patients can be evaluated for COVID-19 as an etiological factor.
