    Abstract Characterized with in-depth interactions and self-reflections, slow tourism has been gaining growing popularity in recent years thanks to the importance attached to quality of life and self-actualization of tourists in the post modern era, which has all been necessitated by the challenges wrought by the Covid-19 pandemic. In response to the current research lacuna of competitiveness analyses of specialized small-scale destinations, this study comprehensively proposes and empirically evaluates the competitiveness of slow tourism destinations as indicated by the values perceived by the slow tourists, and explores the mechanism of competitiveness of slow tourism destinations with investigation of the interrelationships between competitiveness and tourist attitude, consumption emotion and behavioral intentions through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The Gaochun District, which was the first accredited Cittàslow in China, was selected as the research site. Findings yielded four major competitiveness dimensions of community ambiance and service, tourist, and comprehensive management, cultural resources and values and natural resources and protection, and confirmed that perceived values are positively related to attitude, consumption emotion, and behavioral intentions. In addition to offering a valid scale measuring the competitiveness of slow tourism destinations, this study suggests the integration of cultural components in better planning and management of slow tourism destinations.

    Abstract The ability to extract peptides and proteins from biological samples with excellent reusability, high adsorption capacity, and great selectivity is essential in scientific research and medical applications. Inspired by the advantages of core-shell materials, we fabricated a core-shell material using amino-functionalized silica as the core. Benzene-1,3,5-tricarbaldehyde and 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid were used as model organic ligands to construct a shell coating by alternately reacting the two monomers on the surface of silica microspheres. The resultant material featured an outstanding capability for the adsorption of cationic peptides, most likely owing to its porous structure, a large number of carboxylic functional groups, and low mass-transfer resistance. The maximum saturated adsorption capacity reached 833.3 mg/g and the adsorption process took only 20 min. Under optimized adsorption conditions, the core-shell material was used to selectively adsorb cationic peptides from the tryptic digestive solution of lysozyme and bovine serum albumin, Specifically, the analysis results showed seven cationic peptides in the eluate and twenty anionic peptides in the supernatant, which indicates the efficient trap of most cationic peptides in the digestive solution.

    Abstract In recent decades, smart tourism has been attracting attention from practitioners and scholars. The current study used multiple analysis methods to conduct a systematic review of 124 related articles on smart tourism. Qualitative analysis was conducted to identify 10 categories of smart tourism articles. Results showed that the largest proportion focus on the influence of technology on tourists’ perceptions, behaviors, and experiences. Co-occurrence analysis was performed to investigate the development trend of keywords used by academics in the last five years, while co-authorship (country) analysis was conducted to examine the collaborative relationship between different countries. The research regions, industries, methods, and theories applied in these articles were also analyzed. Theoretical and practical/managerial implications, as well as future research directions, were provided.

    Abstract The recent decades have witnessed various epidemics. This year, COVID-19 has severely hit the global tourism industry, especially in destinations that largely depend on tourists from Mainland China. While the government should prioritize the curbing of epidemics, minimal attention has been paid to residents' positive outlook of tourism recovery, which affects public engagement during the recovery stage. Through an online survey conducted with 228 Macao residents in the early phase of epidemic, this study found that residents anticipate quick tourism recovery when they are satisfied with the government's performance in dealing with epidemic, because of their self-efficacy in avoiding infection and government efficacy in tourism recovery, but not relief of emotional concern. Implications for government at destination are also discussed.

    Abstract Aims: Observational evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship between cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and pneumonia. However, the causality between CVDs and pneumonia remains undetermined. Thus, we aimed to investigate the bidirectional causality between CVDs and pneumonia using Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.
    Methods: Global genetic correlation analysis and bidirectional two-sample MR analysis were performed to infer the genetic correlation and causality between CVDs and pneumonia by using genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data from GWAS meta-analysis study, FinnGen or UK Biobank consortium. Post-hoc power calculation was conducted to assess the power for detecting the causality.
    Results: The linkage disequilibrium score regression analysis suggested a positive significant genetic correlation between CVDs and pneumonia. In the MR analysis, only genetically predicted ischemic stroke was causally associated with any pneumonia (odds ratio [OR]: 1.119, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.031-1.393), bacterial pneumonia (OR: 1.251, 95% CI: 1.032-1.516), and pneumococcal pneumonia (OR: 1.308, 95% CI: 1.093-1.565), but the causality was attenuated to non-significance after adjusting for deep venous thrombosis. However, the causal effects of pneumonia on CVDs were not detected. Post-hoc power calculations supported strong power (more than 80%) to detect the causality.
    Conclusions: Ischemic stroke is causally associated with an increased risk of pneumonia, but there is no evidence for the causal effect of pneumonia on CVDs. Our findings have important implications as they provide further support for the thrombosis risk screening as a strategy to reduce the incidence of pneumonia in patients with ischemic stroke.

    Abstract Shared leadership has emerged as a new style that has been proven to contribute to employee performance. However, the underlying mechanism of shared leadership on employee performance and its possible correlates have not received sufficient academic attention in the literature. To narrow the related research gaps, the current study aims to establish a multi-level framework incorporating shared leadership, team reflexivity and employee performance, and examined the cross-level mediation mechanism between shared leadership and adaptive performance. A questionnaire survey consisting of 301 valid employees’ samples from 31 work teams in the hotel industry in China validated the proposed model. Multilevel analysis with Mplus was applied. The current study found that shared leadership positively influences team reflexivity, and share leadership influences employee’s adaptive performance through proactive behavior. The current study sheds light on the role of shared leadership in tourism organizations. The practical implications regarding how to improve the organizational environment to enhance productivity are further discussed.
