Abstract Collinear laser spectroscopy was performed on the isomer of the aluminium isotope ^{26m}Al. The measured isotope shift to ^{27}Al in the 3s^{2}3p ^{2}P_{3/2}^{○}→3s^{2}4s ^{2}S_{1/2} atomic transition enabled the first experimental determination of the nuclear charge radius of ^{26m}Al, resulting in R_{c}=3.130(15)  fm. This differs by 4.5 standard deviations from the extrapolated value used to calculate the isospin-symmetry breaking corrections in the superallowed β decay of ^{26m}Al. Its corrected Ft value, important for the estimation of V_{ud} in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, is thus shifted by 1 standard deviation to 3071.4(1.0) s.

Abstract We demonstrate a III-V avalanche photodiode (APD) grown by heteroepitaxy on silicon. This InGaAs/InAlAs APD exhibits low dark current, gain >20, external quantum efficiency >40%, and similar low excess noise, k∼0.2, as InAlAs APDs on InP.

Abstract Some III-V digital alloy avalanche photodiodes exhibit low excess noise. These alloys have low hole ionization coefficients due to presence of small 'minigaps', enhanced effective mass and large separation between light-hole and split-off bands in the valence band. In this letter, an explanation for the formation of the minigaps using a tight binding picture is provided. Furthermore, we demonstrate that decreasing substrate lattice constant can increase the minigap size and mass in the transport direction. This leads to reduced quantum tunneling and phonon scattering of the holes. Finally, we illustrate the band structure modification with substrate lattice constant for other III-V digital alloys.

Abstract Objectives: Evoked tympanic membrane displacement (TMD) measurements, quantified by V
Materials and methods: Spontaneous and evoked TMD data from each ear in the sitting and supine position were recorded from 100 healthy volunteers using the MMS-14 CCFP analyser. ECG was also recorded to identify each heartbeat. Using bespoke software written in Matlab, spontaneous data were analysed to produce average pulse amplitude (PA) waveforms and evoked data were analysed to calculate average V
Results: There was a strong positive correlation between PA and V
Conclusion: This study shows that large V

Abstract We report a new technique for the rapid measurement of full capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristic curves. The displacement current from a 100 MHz applied sine-wave, which swings from accumulation to strong inversion, is digitized directly using an oscilloscope from the metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) capacitor under test. A C-V curve can be constructed directly from this data but is severely distorted due to non-ideal behavior of real measurement systems. The key advance of this work is to extract the system response function using the same measurement set-up and a known MOS capacitor. The system response correction to the measured C-V curve of the unknown MOS capacitor can then be done by simple deconvolution. No de-skewing and/or leakage current correction is necessary, making it a very simple and quick measurement. Excellent agreement between the new fast C-V method and C-V measured conventionally by an LCR meter is achieved. The total time required for measurement and analysis is approximately 2 seconds, which is limited by our equipment.

Abstract A series of III-V ternary and quarternary digital alloy avalanche photodiodes (APDs) have recently been seen to exhibit very low excess noise. Using band inversion of an environment-dependent atomistic tight binding description of short period superlattices, we argue that a combination of increased effective mass, minigaps and band split-off are primarily responsible for the observed superior performance. These properties significantly limit the ionization rate of one carrier type, either holes or electrons, making the avalanche multiplication process unipolar in nature. The unipolar behavior in turn reduces the stochasticity of the multiplication gain. The effects of band folding on carrier transport are studied using the Non-Equilibrium Green's Function Method that accounts for quantum tunneling, and Boltzmann Transport Equation model for scattering. It is shown here that carrier transport by intraband tunneling and optical phonon scattering are reduced in materials with low excess noise. Based on our calculations, we propose five simple inequalities that can be used to approximately evaluate the suitability of digital alloys for designing low noise photodetectors. We evaluate the performance of multiple digital alloys using these criteria and demonstrate their validity.

Abstract Oxygen is always a constituent in "real" titanium alloys including titanium alloy powders used for powder-based additive manufacturing (AM). In addition, oxygen uptake during powder handling and printing is hard to control and, hence, it is important to understand and predict how oxygen is affecting the microstructure. Therefore, oxygen is included in the evaluation of the thermodynamic properties of the titanium-vanadium system employing the CALculation of PHAse Diagrams method and a complete model of the O-Ti-V system is presented. Abstract A full account of our recently communicated method for the V2O5 mediated bromolactonization of alkenoic acids is presented. Here we describe the extensive evaluation of the metal oxide catalyst, terminal oxidant, halide source, solvent system, and reaction temperature that resulted in optimal conditions employing 0.05 equiv V2O5, 3 equiv urea-hydrogen peroxide complex (UHP), and 3 equiv of NH4Br in an acetone:H2O (6:1) solvent system at room temperature. Additionally, we have expanded the substrate scope of the reaction with the aim of evaluating the functional group tolerance of the transformation. Further, we present preliminary data of a related halogenation of β-diketones with our optimal conditions. Finally, we probed the role of urea in the transformation.

Abstract We address 3 issues relevant to narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) and the DSM-V. First, we argue that excluding NPD while retaining other traditional personality disorder constructs (e.g., avoidant) makes little sense given the research literature on NPD and trait narcissism and their association with clinically relevant consequences such as aggression, self-enhancement, distorted self-presentation, failed relationships, cognitive biases, and internalizing and externalizing dysregulation. Second, we argue that the DSM-V must include content (in diagnostic form or within a dimensional trait model) that allows for the assessment of both grandiose and vulnerable variants of narcissism. Finally, we suggest that any dimensional classification of personality disorder should recover all of the important component traits of narcissism and be provided with official recognition in the coding system.
