Abstract Compared to more developed countries, the use of land resources is less efficient in China. China’s vast forest land area gives it a rich and underutilized carbon sink. This is an important way for China to achieve the goals of “carbon peaking” and “carbon neutrality”, which is of great significance to China’s sustainable development. In the past 20 years, China has designed a series of policies to serve the development of forestry carbon sinks, namely the forestry carbon sink mechanism (FCSM). However, the questions of which policy is the most important, and what is the socio-economic value it generates, have not been fully investigated. Accordingly, this paper studied 30 provincial-level regions in China from 2005 to 2020 using the difference-in-differences (DID) model. The conclusions show that: (1) the FCSM does increase the socio-economic value of land resources, thus improving the sustainability of land resources; (2) the FCSM helps to increase forest coverage, forest stock volume and the forest coverage rate, which increases the social value of land resources from the greening path; (3) the FCSM helps to increase the gross forestry product, which increases the economic value of land resources through the path of increasing production value.

Abstract ObjectiveSelf-management is crucial in managing recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). This study explored the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of patients with RPL toward RPL.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted among patients with RPL between January 2023 and June 2023 at the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University. Participants’ demographic characteristics and KAP were determined using a self-designed questionnaire (Cronbach’s α = 0.818). Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to observe the correlations among KAP and different factors.ResultsThis study analyzed 497 valid questionnaires. The mean knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 11.59 ± 4.30 (possible range: 0–20, 57.95%), 44.17 ± 3.18 (possible range: 13–65, 67.95%), and 32.39 ± 5.22 (possible range: 8–40, 80.98%), indicating poor knowledge, moderate attitude, and proactive practice. Age was non-linearly associated with the KAP dimensions, with a positive impact of age on KAP among those aged <32 years old. Knowledge was directly influenced by education (β = 1.49, p < 0.001) and income (β = 1.08, p < 0.001). The attitude was directly influenced by knowledge (β = 0.25, p < 0.001) and indirectly influenced by education (β = 0.37, p = 0.001) and income (β = 0.27, p < 0.001). Practice was directly influenced by knowledge (β = 0.26, p < 0.001), attitude (β = 0.28, p < 0.001), and income (β = 0.68, p = 0.012), and indirectly influenced by knowledge (β = 0.07, p = 0.001), education (β = 0.59, p = 0.001), and income (β = 0.42, p < 0.001).ConclusionWomen with RPL in Lanzhou show poor knowledge, moderate attitude, and proactive practice toward RPL. This study identified specific KAP items that would require improvements. The study also identified categories of patients who would need more attention.

Abstract Minimally invasive techniques have been widely applied in general thoracic surgery. Compared with video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), due to its theoretic superiority, robotic surgery is challenging the traditional position of VATS. With its unique advantages, including 3D vision and a high-freedom endowrist, it leads to easier lymph node dissection, more convenient blood vessel dissection, a shorter learning curve and competence for the completion of complex surgery. However, as a new surgical technology, the safety and efficacy of robotic-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS) still need to be further verified. Thus, in this article, we review and summarize the application of RATS versus VATS in general thoracic surgery.

Abstract The aim of this study is to discuss the need for improved intercultural communicative competence (ICC) training for pre-service Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) teachers who travel abroad to teach. Previous studies have shown that pre-service CSL teachers often struggle with intercultural communication, and this study investigates the reasons behind their difficulties and suggests ways to address them. The researchers used the Intercultural Sensitivity Scale (ISS) and the Intercultural Effectiveness Scale (IES) to measure the ICC of 217 pre-service CSL teachers. The study found that while pre-service CSL teachers have strong intercultural communicative emotional ability, their behavioral ability in intercultural communication is weak. In particular, they lacked skills in interactive control, interactive relaxation, identity management, information skills, and behavioral flexibility. The study proposes several strategies to improve ICC training for pre-service CSL teachers. One potential approach is the use of Computer Assisted Language Learning to provide teacher-trainee students with opportunities to practice intercultural communication skills in simulated contexts, receive personalized feedback, and engage with authentic materials and cultural information relevant to their host country. CALL could also facilitate communication between pre-service CSL teachers and former CSL teachers, providing a platform for information exchange and additional psychological support. The study also suggests that pre-service training should distinguish between foreign language learning and intercultural communication skills training. Specifically, it recommends that foreign language proficiency should be improved, while training should focus on educational culture and work culture in the host country, rather than providing a general introduction to the national conditions of the country. Finally, the study proposes that pre-service training should establish contact between pre-service CSL teachers and former CSL teachers as early as possible so that trainees can learn specific relevant information in advance, which can help them get ready, avoid intercultural communication mistakes, and obtain additional psychological support. By incorporating CALL and addressing the areas of weakness identified in the study, pre-service CSL teachers can be better prepared to navigate the challenges of intercultural communication and provide effective and culturally sensitive instruction abroad.

Abstract NAFLD is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide, characterized by lipid accumulation in the liver, and usually evolves from steatohepatitis to fibrosis, cirrhosis, or even HCC. Its incidence is rapidly rising in parallel with the increasing prevalence of obesity and metabolic syndrome. Current therapies are limited to lifestyle changes including dietary intervention and exercise, in which dietary modification exerts an important part in losing weight and preventing NAFLD. In this review, we briefly discuss the roles and mechanisms of dietary components including fructose, non-nutritive sweeteners, fat, proteins, and vitamins in the progression or prevention of NAFLD. We also summarize several popular dietary patterns such as calorie-restricted diets, intermittent fasting, ketogenic diets, Mediterranean diets, and dietary approach to stop hypertension diets and compare the effects of low-fat and low-carbohydrate diets in preventing the development of NAFLD. Moreover, we summarize the potential drugs targeting metabolic-related targets in NAFLD.
