Abstract Objectives: Levofloxacin is widely used because of its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and convenient dosing schedule. However, the relevance of its use in children remains to be investigated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of levofloxacin use in children with severe infections.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study of patients <18 years of age who received levofloxacin intravenously in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of our hospital during the period between 2021 and 2022. Patient demographics, course characteristics, clinical effectiveness, and adverse event correlations were extracted through a retrospective tabular review.
Results: We included 25 patients treated with 28 courses of levofloxacin. The mean age of these children treated with levofloxacin was 4.41 years. Conversion of pathogenic microbiological test results to negative after levofloxacin treatment was detected in 11 courses (39.29%). A decrease in inflammatory markers, white blood cell or C-reactive protein counts, was detected in 18 courses (64.29%). A total of 57 adverse events occurred during the treatment period, of which 21 were possibly related to levofloxacin and no adverse events were probably related to levofloxacin.
Conclusion: The effectiveness of levofloxacin use in children with serious infections is promising, especially for the treatment of multidrug-resistant bacteria. Adverse events occurring during the initiation of levofloxacin therapy in children are reported to be relatively common, but in this study, only a small percentage of them were possibly related to levofloxacin, and none of them were highly possibly related to levofloxacin.

Abstract Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of BAL in treating MPP.
Methods: From January 2013 to January 2019, 1,689 pediatric patients with MPP were analyzed retrospectively. Patients were subdivided into BAL group and non-BAL group according to whether they received BAL treatment within seven days after admission. The propensity score matching method matched patients' baseline characteristics (1:1). The primary outcomes were hospital stays and the cure rate. Secondary outcomes included mortality, co-infection, repeat hospitalization within 30 days, and total cost of treatment.
Results: After matching, 524 patients (BAL: 262; control: 262) were recorded. The BAL group had significantly shorter hospital stays (OR: 0.5, 95% CI: 0.4-0.7). Meanwhile, BAL did not significantly modify the cost, co-infection rate, and mortality. In subgroup analyses, the group with BAL intervention within three days had a significantly shorter hospital stay (OR: 0.4, 95% CI: 0.3-0.5) compared with the group with BAL intervention three days after admission.
Conclusions: Early BAL intervention is a better treatment than conventional drug therapy alone, and no significant complications were seen in this study. BAL intervention has an excellent clinical benefit. The earlier the intervention, the better the effect.

Abstract Objectives: The hepatitis B vaccine comprises hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) produced by transgenic yeast cells. There are few serious adverse events (SAE) reports after Hepatitis B vaccination.
Methods: The authors searched the Chinese legal documents database for all SAE with Hepatitis B vaccination from January 2010 to January 2022.
Results: All seven patients received yeast-derived recombinant hepatitis B vaccine. Three cases of myocarditis (death), 2 cases of interstitial pneumonia (death), and 2 cases of encephalitis. The mean time of onset of SAE was 8.3 ± 4.3 h after vaccination.
Conclusion: The mechanism of vaccine-induced myocarditis may come from immune protein reactions. Based on the experience of Hepatitis B vaccine adverse events, we present new insights into the mechanism of myocarditis caused by the COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract Infections caused by antibiotic-resistant pathogens pose high risks to human and animal health worldwide. In recent years, the environment and wildlife as major sources and reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) are being increasingly investigated. There have been many reports on bacterial community in ticks, but little is known about ARGs they carry, and the correlation between bacterial and ARGs in wild ticks also remains unknown. Here, the profiles of microbial community and antibiotic resistome in wild tick species were investigated using high-throughput 16S rRNA sequencing and smart chip-based high-throughput quantitative PCR approach (HT-qPCR), respectively. We found that bacterial composition in wild tick species is variable; the sequenced reads from all samples were assigned to 37 different phyla at the phylum level. The dominant phylum was
