Abstract Objective: Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) have seen widespread adoption in medical education and other health professions education. EPAs aim to provide a bridge between competency-based education and clinical practice by translating competencies into fundamental profession-specific tasks associated with clinical practice. Despite the extensive use of EPAs in health professions education, EPAs have yet to be introduced into chiropractic education. The purpose of this paper is to describe the development and introduction of EPAs as part of 2 community-based chiropractic student preceptorship education programs in the United States.
Methods: EPAs were developed and introduced at 2 community-based chiropractic preceptorship sites in 5 distinct steps: (1) differentiating EPAs from competencies, learning objectives, and knowledge, skills, and attitudes; (2) identifying EPAs; (3) mapping EPAs to competencies and necessary experience, knowledge, and skills; (4) designing EPA assessment strategies; and (5) implementing the use of EPAs.
Results: A total of 13 individual EPAs were developed and mapped to Council on Chiropractic Education meta-competency outcomes and underlying experience, knowledge, and skills. Three assessment tools were created to evaluate student entrustability for EPAs and enhance student self-assessment. The EPAs and assessment tools were integrated into chiropractic student preceptorships at each site.
Conclusion: This paper describes the development and introduction of EPAs at 2 community-based chiropractic preceptorship sites. Future research is needed to develop and standardize EPA use and assessment, and to evaluate outcomes associated with EPA use.

Abstract Esports research lacks game-based metrics platforms appropriate for adequately capturing esports performance. The aim of this pilot study was to assess the reliability of the KovaaK's first-person shooter (FPS) aim trainer as a metrics platform for assessing shooting proficiency in esports players. Ten FPS esports players completed two identical experimental trials (T) separated by three to five days. Each trial included four rounds (R) of testing, evaluating four shooting tasks: Micro Flicking, Macro Flicking, Strafe Tracking, and Wall Peeking. Reliability of performance outcomes (e.g., accuracy, headshot accuracy, hits per second, and total shots hit) were assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and their 95% confidence intervals (CI), and significant differences were identified using repeated-measures analysis of variance (RM-ANOVA). Results indicated excellent, or good to excellent reliability for all outcome variables with the ICC estimates ranging between 0.947-0.995, with lower and upper bound 95% CIs ranging between 0.876-0.988, and 0.984-0.999, respectively. Significant improvements were seen between experimental trials in the Macro Flicking task for accuracy (

Abstract According to the National Resident Matching Program in 2022, 631 pathology positions were offered. In total, 248 senior applicants from United States (US) allopathic schools filled 36.6% of these positions. To bolster medical student understanding of pathology, a medical school pathology interest group organized a multi-day activity to introduce rising second-year medical students to pathology as a career. Five students completed both pre- and post-activity surveys assessing their knowledge of the specialty. All five students had a BA/BS degree as their highest level of education. Only one student indicated that he or she had previously shadowed a pathologist as a medical laboratory scientist for a duration of four years. Two students indicated that they were interested in internal medicine, one indicated radiology, one forensic pathology or radiology, and one was undecided. During the activity, students biopsied tissue from cadavers in the gross anatomy lab. Thereafter, students participated in the standard tissue processing by shadowing a histotechnologist. Under the guidance of a pathologist, students microscopically examined slides and discussed the clinical findings. Post-activity survey results indicated that participation increased their knowledge of pathology as a career with a median increase of 0.8 points (range: 0.2 to 1.6) on a 5-point Likert scale. Students also indicated that their participation increased their knowledge of pathology skills and techniques-median increase of 1.2 (range: 0.8 to 1.8). This activity can be implemented by medical educators to expose medical students to pathology as a career with the benefit of increasing student knowledge in the specialty.

Abstract Objective: Describe health service utilization in women veterans with eating disorder symptoms and characterize the nature of mental health services received.
Method: Women veterans (N = 191) in a northeastern Veterans Health Administration region completed the Eating Disorders Examination Questionnaire. Health service utilization was then observed for 5 years across multiple domains (i.e., mental health, primary care, telephone consultations, emergency services); negative binomial or zero-inflated negative binomial regression models (mental health) estimated the relative impact of reported eating disorder symptoms on health service utilization.
Results: After adjusting for the effects of age and body mass index, higher eating disorder symptoms were associated with higher primary care, mental health services, and telephone consultations. Eating disorder diagnoses were infrequent across the sample.
Discussion: Women veterans with higher self-reported eating disorder symptoms evidence higher health service utilization across common healthcare domains. Encounter data suggest that eating disorder symptoms are rarely identified or clinically addressed by providers. Existing mental health visits may represent an opportunity for selective screening for eating disorder symptoms, particularly among women who evidence known risk factors.
Public significance: This study reveals that women veterans with higher levels of eating disorder symptoms (e.g., dietary restriction, poor body image) use more primary care, mental health, and telephone consultations than others, but may not receive services that target disordered eating. Opportunities may exist to better identify eating disorder symptoms in the context of existing mental health visits, or potentially to combine treatment for eating disorder symptoms into their mental health care.

Abstract Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a -condition associated with elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) and frequently presents with headaches, papilledema, and visual loss. Rarely, IIH has been reported in association with acromegaly. Although removal of the tumor may reverse this process, elevated ICP, especially in the setting of an otherwise empty sella, may result in a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak that is exceedingly difficult to manage. We present the first case of a patient with a functional pituitary adenoma causing acromegaly associated with IIH and an otherwise empty sella and discuss our management paradigm for this rare condition.
