Abstract Introduction: Audition is essential for communication, and it is vital for the normal cognitive development of children. Hence, if a child has a hearing impairment, it would significantly impact the child's speech and language development, competence, and emotional wellness. Most children with hearing impairment are advised to go for amplification devices or cochlear implantations for communication through oral modality. There are numerous factors upon which the rehabilitation programs' outcomes depend; one critical aspect that influences habilitation/rehabilitation is parents' knowledge regarding hearing impairment, their attitude towards it, and their practice. Therefore, it needed to assess the parental knowledge, attitude, and practice among parents of children with hearing impairment.
Method: The study used a cross-sectional study design and a convenient sampling method to recruit the participants. It was a timebound study; all the cases were recruited as participants during the study period.
Results: The developed questionnaire has good reliability and validity. The questionnaire was administered to 38 parents to assess their knowledge, attitude, and practice towards their children's hearing impairment. The study's finding revealed that the overall parental knowledge, attitude, and practice towards their children's hearing impairment was found to be good.
Conclusion: The developed questionnaires in Hindi have good reliability and validity to assess parental knowledge, attitude, and practice about hearing impairment among parents of children with hearing impairment.

Abstract Background: Urethroplasty using a buccal mucosa graft (BMG) and a preputial skin flap (PSF) are two common techniques used for the treatment of anterior urethral stricture. The present study compared the efficacy of these two techniques on the basis of success rate, preservation of sexual function, and complications.
Materials and methods: This prospective, randomized, interventional study was conducted on adult male patients diagnosed with non-obliterative anterior urethral strictures of length >2 cm from August 2021 to December 2022. Pre-operative and post-operative work-up done included assessment of the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Quality of Life (QOL), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) Score, Male Sexual Health Questionnaire for Ejaculatory Dysfunction (MSHQ-EJD), Bother score, Urethral Stricture Surgery-Patient-Related Outcome Measure (USS-PROM), and peak urinary flow rate (Qmax) for each patient. Post-operative values for each score were compared with pre-operative values.
Results: Out of 31 patients, 16 underwent BMG urethroplasty, and 15 underwent PSF urethroplasty. The most common cause of stricture in both groups was idiopathic (35.5% and 53.3%). A statistically significant increase in IIEF score was observed in the BMG group in comparison to the PSF group (P<0.0001). The mean IPPS score in USS-PROM has shown a significant drop in BMG (19.6 vs. 17.3; P = 0.020). Hemoglobin drop was significantly higher in PSF than in BMG (2.6 vs. 1.9; P = 0.011). A higher incidence of surgical site infection was reported in the PSF group than in the BMG group (46.7% vs. 12.5%). The average operative time for surgery was higher in PSF than in BMG (154.8 min vs. 145.0 min), respectively. Each group had one patient with a recurrence.
Conclusion: Both techniques are equally good for urethral reconstruction (UR); however, improvement of sexual function is more in favor of the BMG urethroplasty group.

Abstract Closed-loop recyclable and biodegradable aliphatic covalent adaptable networks (CANs) based on dynamic β-CO thioester linkages that exhibit a service temperature beyond 100 °C are reported. These CANs possessing tensile strength and modulus values of up to 0.3 and 3 MPa, respectively, effectively undergo stress relaxation above 100 °C. The samples exhibit creep resistance ability and low hysteresis loss, and are repeatedly reprocessable at 120 °C. These CANs are depolymerizable to monomers under mild conditions and lose notable mechanical strength (92.4%) and weight (76.5%) within ∼35 days under natural biodegradation conditions.

Abstract Introduction: With better healthcare facilities, despite an increase in neonatal survivor rates, the outcomes in the survivors still remains uknown to a great extent. In overburdened centres following an early discharge policy, a structured follow-up plan to evaluate growth, development and problems faced by the high-risk babies is essential. Aim: To assess the growth, development at 52 and 64 weeks Postmentrual Age (PMA) and association of postnatal growth failure with developmental outcome in Low Birth Weight (LBW) and Very Low Birth Weight (VLBW) babies. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective cohort study carried out amongst the newborn babies discharged from a tertiary care hospital, Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, Odisha, India, within 2 months period and followed-up till 64 weeks PMA. Out of 189 newborns discharged during study period, 168 met the inclusion criteria and only 114 babies could complete the follow-up till 64 weeks postmenstrual. The weight, length and head circumference were documented at discharge, 44, 52 and 64 weeks PMA and compared using INTERGROWTH 21st postnatal standards. Denver Developmental Screening Test was used for developmental screening at 52 and 64 week PMA. Descriptive analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 and categorical data was compared using Chi-square test in trend using Epi Info software. Results: Out of 114 patients, 51 (44.7%) were females and 63 (55.3%) were males. At birth, 72 (63.16%) of study population was below 10th centile which increased to 77 (67.54%) at 44 weeks PMA. By 64 weeks PMA, 62 (54.39%) infants showed >10th centile of weight for age. Out of total, 18 (15.79%) showed delayed developmental milestones. 11 out of 18 (61.11%) babies were with delayed development, i.e., below 3rd centile of weight for age showing that at lower postnatal weight odds of patients having developmental delay were increased. Conclusion: Postnatal growth pattern of the study population was ...

Abstract Introduction: Nosocomial infections are a major problem for hospitalised neonates due to increase in morbidity, mortality, duration of hospitalisation and costs of treatment. The magnitude of this problem varies from place to place and is unique to each place as per the organisms and their resistance pattern is concerned. There is need to develop local level surveillance data on incidence of nosocomial sepsis, causative organisms, their sensitivity pattern and periodically review antibiotic policy based on this information. Aim: To determine the aetiological agents of neonatal nosocomial sepsis and their antibiotic sensitivity and resistance pattern. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study in which the cases of nosocomial infections in neonates of >35 weeks were studied from November 2018-October 2019 at Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (S.C.B.M.C.H) and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Postgraduate Institute of Paediatrics (S.V.P.P.G.I.P) based on clinical findings, sepsis screen and blood culture. Blood culture is considered as gold standard for diagnosis of sepsis. Blood sample (1 mL) was collected under strict asepsis in Becton Dickinson and Company (BACTEC) and was sent for performing blood culture. The data was processed and arranged into distribution tables and cross tables using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0. Results: Out of total 100 suspected cases of nosocomial sepsis, blood culture was positive in 46 (46%) of cases. Candida spp. was the most common obtained organism 9 (19.5%) followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae 8 (17.3%) and Staphylococcus aureus 8 (17.3%), respectively. There was increased incidence of bacterial resistance to commonly used antibiotics and combinations of it, like ampicillin, gentamicin, cefotaxime, amikacin and piperacillin+tazobactam among these bacterial isolates. Among the possible new combinations deduced from the observation, the combination of vancomycin+amikacin had sensitivity of 67.6% and can be considered as ...

Abstract Background: PARP inhibitors (PARPi) have a well-established role in platinum-sensitive ovarian cancer (PSOC), in BRCA mutant (BRCAm), and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) population. However, their role in wild type and homologous recombination proficient population is still not clear.
Methods: A meta-analysis of hazard ratios (HR) of randomized control trials (RCTs) was conducted to study the role of PARPi. The published RCTs comparing the efficacy of PARP inhibitors alone or in combination with chemotherapy and/or target therapies versus placebo/chemotherapy alone/target therapy alone in primary or recurrent ovarian cancer settings were selected. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were the primary endpoints.
Results: A total of 14 primary studies and 5 updated studies are considered, consisting of 5363 patients. Overall, HR for PFS was 0.50 [95% CI 0.40-0.62]. HR of PFS was 0.94 [95% CI 0.76-1.15] in the PROC group, 0.41 [95% CI 0.29-0.60] was in HRD with BRCA unknown (BRCAuk), 0.38 [95% CI 0.26-0.57] in HRD with BRCAm, and 0.52 [95% CI 0.38-0.71] in HRD with BRCAwt. In the HRP group, overall HR for PFS was 0.67 [95% CI 0.56-0.80], 0.61 [95% CI 0.38-0.99] in HRD unknown with BRCA wt, and 0.40 [95% CI 0.29-0.55] in BRCAm HR for PFS. Overall, HR for OS was 0.86 [95% CI 0.73-1.031].
Conclusions: The results suggest that PARPi have a meaningful clinical benefit in PSOC, HRD, BRACm, and also in HRP and PROC; however, the evidence is not sufficient to recommend their routine use and further studies are needed to expand their role in the HRP and PROC groups.

Abstract Lignin is a significant renewable carbon source that needs to be exploited to manufacture bio-ethanol and chemical feedstocks. Lignin mimicking methylene blue (MB) dye is widely used in industries and causes water pollution. Using kraft lignin, methylene blue, and guaiacol as a full carbon source, 27 lignin-degrading bacteria (LDB) were isolated from 12 distinct traditional organic manures for the current investigation. The ligninolytic potential of 27 lignin-degrading bacteria was assessed by qualitative and quantitative assay. In a qualitative plate assay, the LDB-25 strain produced the largest zone, measuring 6.32 ± 0.297, on MSM-L-kraft lignin plates, while the LDB-23 strain produced the largest zone, measuring 3.44 ± 0.413, on MSM-L-Guaiacol plates. The LDB-9 strain in MSM-L-kraft lignin broth was able to decolorize lignin to a maximum of 38.327 ± 0.011% in a quantitative lignin degradation assay, which was later verified by FTIR assay. In contrast, LDB-20 produced the highest decolorization (49.633 ± 0.017%) in the MSM-L-Methylene blue broth. The highest manganese peroxidase enzyme activity, measuring 6322.314 ± 0.034 U L

Abstract Organophosphorus (OP) compound poisoning with suicidal intent is common. It is one of the frequent cause for admission to hospital Emergencies and intensive care units in our region. We describe here a case of 19-year old girl who presented to the Emergency Department with atypical features of OP poisoning. She had perioral, tongue and lower limb fasciculations along with generalized muscle weakness with no or minimal muscarinic effects. OP poisoning with isolated nicotinic receptor mediated effect is often reported in children but in adult it is extremely rare. Based on history and clinical suspicion of nicotinic receptor mediated effect of OP, she was given intravenous atropine along with other supportive treatment. Patient got completely recovered from fasciculations and her motor weakness improved after 6 h of atropine therapy. Emergency physician should keep a high index of suspicion of isolated nicotinic and ganglionic mediated effect of OP and a trial of atropine should be given to the patient.
