    Abstract Los procesos participativos permiten analizar, comprender, debatir y promover la acción colectiva en asuntos significativos para una comunidad. Estas metodologías activas favorecen la identificación de necesidades y activos en salud para elaborar un diagnóstico de salud comunitaria y promover acciones colectivas. En este sentido, la aplicación de los procesos participativos en el contexto universitario resulta de gran interés para el fortalecimiento de las universidades como comunidades promotoras de la salud. En este trabajo se describe el desarrollo del proceso participativo #beUMHealthy, cuyo objetivo principal fue potenciar el debate sobre la salud y las iniciativas de promoción de la salud en el alumnado de la Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH). El proyecto se desarrolló entre mayo y noviembre del 2019. Se recogieron 22 participaciones mediante WhatsApp y 173 cuestionarios diligenciados en línea. Este proceso permitió identificar necesidades y activos en salud en el alumnado de la UMH y obtener propuestas para su mejora. Esta información se usará para promover acciones futuras que incrementen la salud de la comunidad universitaria.

    Abstract Significant life and work aspects of the outstanding medical sciences doctor José Miguel Goderich Lalán are mentioned in this work; specialist in first and second degrees in general surgery, Merit Professor and Qualified Investigator of the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba. During several years he was President of the Cuban Society of Surgery and his achievements in assistance, teaching and investigation determined a scientific hallmark in this branch of knowledge, mainly in the thematic of incisional and inguinal hernias, reason why he has become reference for many professors and investigators of the world.

    Abstract Las relaciones de los organismos en la naturaleza se basan en dos ciclos, uno de materia y el otro de energía, dichos ciclos dan origen a las cadenas tróficas las cuales dan origen a los tres niveles tróficos; autótrofos, herbívoros y carnívoros. Para el caso de los peces de agua dulce, los organismos jóvenes viven y se alimentan en la orilla y superficie del agua, para conocer lo que comen se analiza el tracto digestivo. Por lo cual el presente trabajo pretende determinar la trama trófica de los peces del embalse San Miguel Arco. Se capturaron los peces del embalse con un chinchorro de 30 metros de largo y 1/3 de pulgada, los organismos se fijaron con formalina al 10 %, los peces se identificaron al igual que el alimento que consumieron, con claves especializadas, a la abundancia de los grupos alimenticios se les aplicó el índice de Simpson. Se encontró que Chirostoma humboldtianum, es zooplanctófago especialista, Cyprinus carpio, y Carassius auratus son planctófagos generalistas y Poeciliopsis infans es planctófago especialista. La trama trófica se basa en zooplancton (Bosmina y Mastigodiaptomus) además de zoobentos (Corixidae).

    Abstract Objetivo: evaluar el espesor corneal central en sujetos sanos, hipertensos oculares, sospechosos de glaucoma y glaucomatosos, y su influencia en la presión intraocular. Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal que incluyó 708 ojos de 356 sujetos que acudieron al servicio de oftalmología del Hospital Universitario "Dr. Miguel Enríquez" entre enero y diciembre de 2010. A los pacientes se les midió el espesor corneal central con paquimetría ultrasónica (paquímetro US 4000). El resto de la información se obtuvo a partir de las historias clínicas de los pacientes. Resultados: Los hipertensos oculares presentaron córneas gruesas (p=0,07); el mayor número de casos que tenían diagnóstico de sospecha de glaucoma y de glaucoma primario de ángulo abierto presentaron un grosor corneal delgado (p=0,62 y p=0,08 respectivamente). Si no se hubiese tenido en cuenta el factor de corrección para evaluar la presión intraocular se encontraría 48,1 % de los glaucomatosos y 31,5 % de los hipertensos oculares con diagnóstico inadecuado (p<0,0001). Conclusiones: Los hipertensos oculares, en su mayoría, presentaron córneas gruesas; sin embargo, el mayor número de casos que tenían diagnóstico de sospecha glaucoma y de glaucoma primario de ángulo abierto presentaron un grosor corneal más delgado. Tener en cuenta el factor de corrección en la evaluación de la PIO disminuye el error diagnóstico. Objective: to evaluate the central corneal thickness in healthy individuals, in persons with ocular hypertension, and in suspected glaucoma and glaucomatous people, and its influence in intraocular pressure. Methods: a cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed in 708 eyes from 356 people who had been seen at ophthalmology service of “Dr. Miguel Enríquez”, university hospital from January to December, 2010. Their central corneal thickness was measured with ultrasonic pachymetry (pachymeter US 4000). The rest of the information came from the clinical histories of the patients. Results: Most of the ocular hypertensives presented thick corneas (p=0,07); a high number of cases that had diagnosis of glaucoma suspicion and primary open-angle glaucoma showed thin corneas (p=0,62 and (p=0,08 respectively). If the correction factor to evaluate the IOP had not been considered, then 48,1 % of the glaucomatous patients and 31,5 % of the ocular hypertensives would have been inadequately diagnosed (p<0,0001). Conclusions: the majority of the ocular hypertensive patients had thick corneas; however, the biggest number of cases that had diagnosis of suspected glaucoma and primary open angle glaucoma showed thinner corneas. Keeping in mind the correction factor in the evaluation of the intraocular pressure reduces the diagnostic errors.

    Title translation From genotype to phenotype: amylase gene in childhood obesity.
    Abstract Worldwide, Mexico is one of the countries with the highest rate of obesity, which is a condition considered the main risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Among the mechanisms that predispose to obesity, the interaction between food intake and genetic components has been little explored. Recently we evidenced a significant association between the copy number (CN) of AMY1A and AMY2A genes, the enzymatic activity of salivary and pancreatic amylase, and the frequency of childhood obesity in Mexico, a particular population due to the high consumption of starch in the diet and the high prevalence of obesity in children and adults. This review aims to find a better understanding of the role of amylase in obesity through a description of the evolution of the CN of its genes, the association of its enzymatic activity with obesity, and the effect of its interaction with starch intake on Mexican children. In addition, it denotes the importance of the experimental perspectives of further investigation regarding the mechanism by which amylase could regulate the abundance of oligosaccharide-fermenting bacteria and producers of short-chain fatty acids and/or branched-chain amino acids that could contribute to the alteration of the physiological processes associated with intestinal inflammation and metabolic deregulation that predispose to the development of obesity.
