Abstract The interfacial engineering of Pd-based alloys (i.e., PdM with distinct morphologies, compositions, and strain defects) is an efficient way for enhanced catalytic activity; however, it remains a grand challenge to fabricate such alloys in aqueous solutions without heating, organic solvents, and multiple reaction steps. Herein, we present a simple, aqueous-phase, one-step, and ultrafast approach for the interfacial engineering of surfactant-free porous PdM (M = Cu, Au, and Mn) nanocrystals with well-controlled spongy-like morphology and compositions. The electronic interaction in PdM nanocrystals and their effect on the alkaline electrochemical ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR) are investigated using XRD, XPS, and electrochemical tests. Notably, integrating M metals into Pd atoms results in upshifting the d-band center of Pd and subsequently modulating the EOR activity and stability substantially. The EOR mass activity (10.78 A/mg

Abstract The anticorrosion potency of two expired antifungal drugs, namely, bifonazole (BIF) and terconazole (TER), for X65 carbon steel (X65CS) in a 1.0 M HCl solution was estimated using practical and computational measurements. The results of all methods applied showed that the percentage of anticorrosive efficacy (% AE) increased for expired BIF and TER and reduced at elevated temperatures. Abstract The main viral protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 is a nucleophilic cysteine hydrolase and a current target for anti-viral chemotherapy. We describe a high-throughput solid phase extraction coupled to mass spectrometry Mpro assay. The results reveal some β-lactams, including penicillin esters, are active site reacting Mpro inhibitors, thus highlighting the potential of acylating agents for Mpro inhibition.

Abstract: ... about the potential of inhibition of some pyrazoline compounds against COVID-19-M ...

Abstract The molecular electronic density theory (MEDT) was invested to elucidate the chemo-, regio- and stereo-selectivity of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between Diazomethane (DZM) and Psilostachyin (PSH). The DFT method at B3LYP/6-31 + G (d,p) level of theory was used. Reactivity indices, transition structures theory, IGM and ELF analysis were employed to reveal the mechanism of the reaction. The addition of DZM to PSH takes place through a one-step mechanism and an asynchronous transition states. Eight possible addition channels of reaction were investigated (addition of C (sp2) to Diazomethane at C4, C5, C6 or C7). The addition of C (sp2) at C5 leading to P1 product is the preferred channel. The addition of ether does not affect the chemo-, regio- and stereo-selectivity of the reaction. Analysis of transfer of charges along the IRC path associated with the P1 product shows a polar character for the studied reaction. We have also used the noncovalent interaction (NCI) which is very helpful to reveal the most favored addition channel of the reaction, by analyzing the weak interactions in different TSs. Finally, we investigate about the potential of inhibition of some pyrazoline compounds against COVID-19-M

Abstract The objective of this study was to isolate and characterize ESBL-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-EC) from raw bovine and caprine milk samples, as well as from bovine faeces in Tunisia. Therefore, 120 bovine faecal samples and 9 caprine raw milk samples were collected from 2 extensive dairy-cow-farms and 5 ovine farms, respectively. In addition, 94 raw bovine milk samples, from containers and holding tanks from 50 small public-markets in the North of Tunisia, were processed for the isolation of cefotaxime-resistant E. coli (CTX

Abstract The aim of this work was the genetic characterization of cefotaxime-resistant enterobacteria from animals (53 samples), the surface water of rivers (17 samples), and wastewater treatment plants (43 samples) in Tunisia. A total of 48 (42.4%) cefotaxime-resistant isolates were recovered. An extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) phenotype with a positive double-disk synergy test (DDST) was exhibited by 34 (70.8%) and 14 (29.1%) isolates from water and animal origins, respectively. Isolates from water were identified as: Escherichia coli (n = 17), Hafnia spp. (n = 13), Citrobacter spp. (n = 1), Enterobacter cloacae (n = 1), Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 1), and K. oxytoca (n = 1). Animal isolates were identified as: E. coli (n = 11), E. cloacae (n = 1), Hafnia spp. (n = 1), and K. pneumoniae (n = 1). PCR investigation of blaCTX-M, blaTEM, and blaSHV genes showed that amongst the 48 isolates with a positive DDST, 41 (87.5%) carried the blaCTX-M gene, 1 isolate harbored the blaSHV gene, and 1 isolate coharbored blaCTX-M with blaSHV genes. The class 1 and 2 integrons were detected in 27 (56.2%) and 1 (2%) isolates, respectively. Our study showed a significant occurrence of ESBL-producing enterobacteria in animals and aquatic environments with a predominance of blaCTX-M genes.

Abstract Very large numbers of M-pox cases have, since the start of May 2022, been reported in non-endemic countries leading many to fear that the M-pox Outbreak would rapidly transition into another pandemic, while the COVID-19 pandemic ravages on. Given the similarities of M-pox with COVID-19, we chose to test the performance of COVID-19 models trained on South African twitter data on a hand-labelled M-pox dataset before and after fine-tuning. More than 20k M-pox-related tweets from South Africa were hand-labelled as being either positive, negative or neutral. After fine-tuning these COVID-19 models on the M-pox dataset, the F1-scores increased by more than 8% falling just short of 70%, but still outperforming state-of-the-art models and well-known classification algorithms. An LDA-based topic modelling procedure was used to compare the miss-classified M-pox tweets of the original COVID-19 RoBERTa model with its fine-tuned version, and from this analysis, we were able to draw conclusions on how to build more sophisticated models.
