Abstract Vision language pre-training aims to learn alignments between vision and language from a large amount of data. Most existing methods only learn image-text alignments. Some others utilize pre-trained object detectors to leverage vision language alignments at the object level. In this paper, we propose to learn multi-grained vision language alignments by a unified pre-training framework that learns multi-grained aligning and multi-grained localization simultaneously. Based on it, we present X

Abstract Purpose: Traditional treatment regimens for advanced prostate cancer, especially castration-resistant prostate cancer, result in low survival times with severe side effects. Therefore, new treatment options are required. Vitamin C (VC) has been identified as a promising anti-cancer agent of which the effects depend on the accumulation of H
Methods: The anti-cancer effect of VC and/or SAS on prostate cancer cells was assessed using WST-8, colony formation and annexin V-FITC/PI FACS assays. Changes in cellular ROS and GSH levels were determined to verify our hypothesis. Finally, BALB/c nude mice bearing prostate cancer xenografts were used to assess the anti-cancer effects of single or combined VC and SAS therapies.
Results: We found that SAS could potentiate the short- and long-term cytotoxicity of VC in prostate cancer cells. We also found that the synergistic effect of SAS and VC led to significant cellular GSH depletion, resulting in increased ROS accumulation. This synergistic effect could be reversed by the antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC). The synergistic effect of SAS and VC was also noted in prostate cancer xenografts and correlated with immunohistochemistry results.
Conclusions: Our results strongly indicate that SAS, a relatively non-toxic drug that targets cystine transporters, in combination with VC may be superior to their single applications in the treatment of prostate cancer.

Towards Fast and Accurate Text-driven 3D Stylization via Dynamic Textual Guidance

Abstract Text-driven 3D stylization is a complex and crucial task in the fields of computer vision (CV) and computer graphics (CG), aimed at transforming a bare mesh to fit a target text. Prior methods adopt text-independent multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) to predict the attributes of the target mesh with the supervision of CLIP loss. However, such text-independent architecture lacks textual guidance during predicting attributes, thus leading to unsatisfactory stylization and slow convergence. To address these limitations, we present X-Mesh, an innovative text-driven 3D stylization framework that incorporates a novel Text-guided Dynamic Attention Module (TDAM). The TDAM dynamically integrates the guidance of the target text by utilizing text-relevant spatial and channel-wise attentions during vertex feature extraction, resulting in more accurate attribute prediction and faster convergence speed. Furthermore, existing works lack standard benchmarks and automated metrics for evaluation, often relying on subjective and non-reproducible user studies to assess the quality of stylized 3D assets. To overcome this limitation, we introduce a new standard text-mesh benchmark, namely MIT-30, and two automated metrics, which will enable future research to achieve fair and objective comparisons. Our extensive qualitative and quantitative experiments demonstrate that X-Mesh outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods.

A Transfer Learning-Based Framework for GAN-Generated Fake Image Detection

    2023

Abstract Generative adversarial networks (GANs) have remarkably advanced in diverse domains, especially image generation and editing. However, the misuse of GANs for generating deceptive images, such as face replacement, raises significant security concerns, which have gained widespread attention. Therefore, it is urgent to develop effective detection methods to distinguish between real and fake images. Current research centers around the application of transfer learning. Nevertheless, it encounters challenges such as knowledge forgetting from the original dataset and inadequate performance when dealing with imbalanced data during training. To alleviate this issue, this paper introduces a novel GAN-generated image detection algorithm called X-Transfer, which enhances transfer learning by utilizing two neural networks that employ interleaved parallel gradient transmission. In addition, we combine AUC loss and cross-entropy loss to improve the model's performance. We carry out comprehensive experiments on multiple facial image datasets. The results show that our model outperforms the general transferring approach, and the best metric achieves 99.04%, which is increased by approximately 10%. Furthermore, we demonstrate excellent performance on non-face datasets, validating its generality and broader application prospects.

Abstract Traditional multitask learning methods basically can only exploit common knowledge in task- or language-wise, which lose either cross-language or cross-task knowledge. This paper proposes a general multilingual multitask model, named SkillNet-X, which enables a single model to tackle many different tasks from different languages. To this end, we define several language-specific skills and task-specific skills, each of which corresponds to a skill module. SkillNet-X sparsely activates parts of the skill modules which are relevant either to the target task or the target language. Acting as knowledge transit hubs, skill modules are capable of absorbing task-related knowledge and language-related knowledge consecutively. Based on Transformer, we modify the multi-head attention layer and the feed forward network layer to accommodate skill modules. We evaluate SkillNet-X on eleven natural language understanding datasets in four languages. Results show that SkillNet-X performs better than task-specific baselines and two multitask learning baselines (i.e., dense joint model and Mixture-of-Experts model). Furthermore, skill pre-training further improves the performance of SkillNet-X on almost all datasets. To investigate the generalization of our model, we conduct experiments on two new tasks and find that SkillNet-X significantly outperforms baselines.

Abstract In the progression of X-ray-based radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer, the incorporation of nanoparticles (NPs) has a transformative impact. This study investigates the potential of NPs, particularly those comprised of high atomic number elements, as radiosensitizers. This aims to optimize localized radiation doses within tumors, thereby maximizing therapeutic efficacy while preserving surrounding tissues. The multifaceted applications of NPs in radiotherapy encompass collaborative interactions with chemotherapeutic, immunotherapeutic, and targeted pharmaceuticals, along with contributions to photodynamic/photothermal therapy, imaging enhancement, and the integration of artificial intelligence technology. Despite promising preclinical outcomes, the paper acknowledges challenges in the clinical translation of these findings. The conclusion maintains an optimistic stance, emphasizing ongoing trials and technological advancements that bolster personalized treatment approaches. The paper advocates for continuous research and clinical validation, envisioning the integration of NPs as a revolutionary paradigm in cancer therapy, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes.
