    Abstract Polyurethane-cement composite are widely used in modern civil engineering, and the method of adding diluent is often used to adjust the construction process to adapt to the engineering environment. Studies have shown that the addition of diluent impacts the performance of polyurethane-cement based composite surface coatings, but there have been few reports on the influence of diluent content on the mechanical properties and microstructure of the coatings. To address this, polyurethane coatings with different diluent contents were prepared, and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy was used to test the microstructure of the coatings. The tensile strength and elongation at rupture were tested using a universal material testing machine, and the fracture interface morphology of each coating was observed by scanning electron microscopy. Finally, the correlation between the microstructure parameters and the mechanical properties of the coating was analyzed using grey relation theory.     Abstract Polyurethane-cement composite are widely used in modern civil engineering, and the method of adding diluent is often used to adjust the construction process to adapt to the engineering environment. Studies have shown that the addition of diluent impacts the performance of polyurethane-cement based composite surface coatings, but there have been few reports on the influence of diluent content on the mechanical properties and microstructure of the coatings. To address this, polyurethane coatings with different diluent contents were prepared, and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy was used to test the microstructure of the coatings. The tensile strength and elongation at rupture were tested using a universal material testing machine, and the fracture interface morphology of each coating was observed by scanning electron microscopy. Finally, the correlation between the microstructure parameters and the mechanical properties of the coating was analyzed using grey relation theory. The results demonstrated that with the increase in diluent content, (i) the average radius of the free volume hole ( R ) and the free volume fraction ( F V ) of the coating both showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing. The value of R was between 3.04 and 3.24 Å, and the value of F V was between 2.08 and 2.84%. (ii) The tensile strength of the coating increased first and then decreased, while the elongation at rupture decreased first and then increased. Among them, the value of tensile strength was between 3.23 and 4.02 MPa, and the value of elongation at fracture was between 49.34 and 63.04%. In addition, the free volume in polymers plays a crucial role in facilitating the migration of molecular chain segments and is closely related to the macroscopic mechanical properties of polymers. A correlation analysis showed that the R value of the coating had the greatest influence on its tensile strength, while F V showed a higher correlation with the elongation at rupture.

    Abstract Objective: Serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) level, which is a biomarker indicative of neuroaxonal damage and cognitive impairment, has been reported in several neurological diseases. There has been a lack of studies on the association between sNfL levels and prediabetes in adolescents. This study investigated whether sNfL levels were higher in adolescents with prediabetes undergoing elective orthopedic surgery.
    Methods: The sNfL level was measured in 149 adolescents aged from 12 to 18 years who underwent elective orthopedic surgery at the Hunan Children's Hospital (18 with and 131 without prediabetes). We evaluated the association between prediabetes and sNfL level after adjusting for age, sex, and triglycerides using a multivariable linear regression model.
    Results: The prevalence of prediabetes in adolescents was 12.08%. Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that prediabetes was related to sNfL. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the association between prediabetes with sNfL levels remained significant after adjustment for age, sex, and triglyceride. The relationship between the two was further visualized by a smoothed curve.
    Conclusions: Prediabetes is associated with a higher sNfL. Further large-scale and prospective studies are needed to verify the clinical application of sNfL as a monitoring biomarker for adolescent prediabetes in adolescents and to evaluate the performance of sNfL in predicting the incidence of neuropathy and cognitive dysfunction in adolescents with prediabetes.

    Abstract The foundation substrate's basal contact stresses are typically thought to have a linear distribution, although the actual form is nonlinear. Basal contact stress in thin plates is experimentally measured using a thin film pressure distribution system. This study examines the nonlinear distribution law of basal contact stresses in thin plates with various aspect ratios under concentrated loading, and it establishes a model for the distribution of contact stresses in thin plates using an exponential function that accounts for aspect ratio coefficients. The outcomes demonstrate that the thin plate's aspect ratio significantly affects how the substrate contact stress is distributed during concentrated loading. The contact stresses in the thin plate's base exhibit significant nonlinearity when the aspect ratio of the test thin plate is greater than 6~8. The aspect ratio coefficient-added exponential function model can better optimize the strength and stiffness calculations of the base substrate and more accurately describe the actual distribution of contact stresses in the base of the thin plate compared to linear and parabolic functions. The correctness of the exponential function model is confirmed by the film pressure distribution measurement system that directly measures the contact stress at the base of the thin plate, providing a more accurate nonlinear load input for the calculation of the internal force of the base thin plate.

    Abstract Frailty is a commonly occurring geriatric condition that increases the risk of adverse health outcomes. The factors and predictors behind frailty are not yet well understood. A better understanding of these factors can enable prevention of frailty in elderly patients. The objective of this study was to determine the association between proteinuria and frailty in US individuals with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III (NHANES III, 1988-1994) conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is a cross-sectional study, and proteinuria and frailty were measured only once at enrollment. The study included 2,272 participants with MetS aged 40-90 years from the NHANES III. The participants underwent assessments to evaluate frailty and frailty components (low body weight, weakness, exhaustion, low physical activity, and slow walking). Proteinuria was represented as albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) (mg/g) and divided into tertiles: T1-normal range (ACR <30 mg/g), T2-microalbuminuria (ACR 30-299 mg/g), and T3-macroalbuminuria (ACR ≥ 300 mg/g). We applied multiple logistic regression to determine the odds ratios (ORs) of frailty for T2 vs. T1 and T3 vs. T1 in both sexes.     Abstract Objective: This study aimed to compare the differences in gray matter volumes (GMVs) of subcortical nuclei between major depressive disorder (MDD) patients with and without persistent depressive disorder (PDD) at long-term follow-up.
    Methods: 114 and 94 subjects with MDD, including 48 and 41 with comorbid PDD, were enrolled to undergo high-resolution T1-weighted imaging at first (FIP) and second (three years later, SIP) investigation points, respectively. FreeSurfer was used to extract the GMVs of seven subcortical nuclei, and Generalized Estimating Equation models were employed to estimate the differences in GMVs of subcortical nuclei between the two subgroups.
    Results: The PDD subgroup had a significantly greater depressive severity and a higher percentage of patients undergoing pharmacotherapy at the FIP as compared with the non-PDD subgroup. These differences became insignificant at the SIP. The PDD subgroup had a significantly (p < 0.003) smaller GMV in the right putamen at the SIP and in the right nucleus accumbens (NAc) at the FIP and SIP as compared with the non-PDD subgroup. After controlling for clinical variables, PDD was independently associated with smaller GMVs in the right putamen and NAc.
    Limitations: Imaging was not performed at baseline and pharmacotherapy was not controlled at the FIP and SIP.
    Conclusions: MDD with PDD was associated with smaller GMVs in the right putamen and NAc as compared with MDD without PDD. Whether the two regions are biomarkers related to a poor prognosis and the chronicity of depression requires further study.
