Abstract As of writing of this paper, over 94 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with COVID-19 infection and over 2 million people have died. During crisis situations, people seek news to gain information and reduce uncertainty. Although news could provide some means of control, the constant access may also cause emotional distress. Research suggests that consumption of crisis news leads to high psychological distress and fear that may impact intentions to engage in healthy behavior. Fake news and widespread misinformation during this pandemic have obliterated public trust in news which can also affect mental health. Therefore, in this research we explore the impact of news exposure on mental well-being and test for plausible explanations. Utilizing survey methodology, we examine the role of news exposure on perceived stress, happiness, satisfaction, gratitude and the moderating impact of interest in COVID-19 news on the same. In addition, we propose trust in news as a mediator of the relationship between news exposure and abovementioned variables. The findings suggest that high levels of news exposure, combined with low levels of interest in COVID-19 news, led people to experience more stress and low satisfaction, gratitude, and happiness. However, when interest in COVID-19 news was high, people experienced more gratitude and happiness with increasing exposure. High levels of news exposure led to lower levels of trust that led to low satisfaction and happiness. Theoretical and practical implications of the study are discussed.

Abstract This experimental investigation uses the stereotype content model (SCM) to explain the biases associated with the perceptions of healthcare providers and the subsequent impact of such biased perceptions. Specifically, the 2 (gender: male, female) by 2 (race: Arab, Caucasian) between-subjects experiment examined the impact of physician race and gender on people's perceptions regarding physician's communication competence, trust, and intentions to visit. The findings indicate that female physicians are considered not only warmer but also more competent than male physicians. White physicians are considered less competent overall than their minority counterparts, though no differences in perceived patient-centered communication behaviors were observed. In addition, perceived competence and warmth mediated the effect of physician gender and race (only warmth) on the perceptions of trust, physician's use of patient-centered communication, and intentions to visit. The theoretical and practical implications of the study are discussed.

Abstract The present investigation emphasizes on the evaluation of heavy metal pollution indices to assess the suitability of groundwater for human consumption. For this, thirty groundwater samples were collected from the villages near Ellenabad city of Sirsa during pre monsoon of 2018 from the tube-wells. The samples were collected from approximately 100 m of depth. The samples were analyzed using Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry (ICP - MS) for heavy metals like As, Hg, Pb, Zn, Cu and Mn. The heavy metals As, Hg and Pb were not found in our samples. The indices like heavy metal pollution index (HPI), heavy metal evolution index (HEI) and Hazard index (HI) were calculated to assess the suitability for drinking. These indices numerically give the suitability of groundwater for human consumption. On the basis of HEI and HPI, all the samples were found to be suitable for human consumption. The value of HI > 1 shows the unsuitability of groundwater for consumption. On the basis of the analysis, it can be said that children are at more risk followed by adults and then infants. The value of HI > 1 has been found for only two samples and which was also for children in sample number 20 and 24. So, majority of the samples have been found to be suitable for human consumption. Principal component analysis was performed for factor analysis which shows the initial Eigen value of more than two and total variance of more than 41.

Abstract Abstract Background Acne vulgaris is caused due to several different biological, environmental and specific pathological factors, resulting in secretion of unregulated amount of sebum by the sebaceous glands. Acne is thought to be a minor, self-restraint, puberty leading and hormone-induced cosmetic disorder. It significantly affects the quality of life leading to social disengagement, anxiety, depression, necessitating its therapeutic management in due course of time. Thus, despite not being fatal it has social and mental impact on individual’s life. Pathogenesis of acne is complex and multifactorial involving diverse physiological, environmental factors and significant role of propionibacterium acne. Retinoids have been used as preferred first-line therapy for treatment of acne, but they have many limitations. Adapalene has found to be acting synergistically with other drugs like benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, clindamycin, etc., and various other topical antioxidants. Results The study investigates the formulation and characterization of novel nanostructured lipid vesicles (NLVs) co-loaded with adapalene and lycopene, through topical gel. The high-pressure homogenization method was used to prepare nanostructured lipid vesicles followed by incorporation into hydrophilic gel vehicle. This novel system was scientifically tested for various evaluation parameters like size and vesicle size distribution, polydispersity index, drug entrapment efficiency and in vitro drug release characteristics, along with rheological behavior of formulation gel. Skin permeation and biodistribution characteristics through skin were also evaluated, and better localization of drug in dermis and reduced systemic penetration were the key observation in prepared formulation. Conclusion The simultaneous co-administration of lycopene resulted in an additive effect in therapeutic management of acne. It can be predicted that this novel NLVs-based gel along with synergistic effect of lycopene will definitely result in better therapeutic ...

Abstract Purpose: To study the biomarkers present in primary pterygium samples of patients of Indian ethnicity and compare it with the samples obtained from the unaffected conjunctiva of the same eye.
Methods: A prospective case-control study of 17 eyes in patients above 10 years of age with primary pterygium who underwent pterygium excision using limbal conjunctival autograft technique. The pterygium samples (cases) and conjunctival samples (controls) were sent for immunohistochemical (IHC) staining for the following biomarkers: p53, Bcl-2, Ki-67, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
Result: The immunohistochemistry of the samples and the controls revealed p53 positivity in 47.05% of pterygium samples and 29.4% of controls ( P < 0.587). Nine cases each in pterygium and control samples were positive for Ki-67 expression. Differences in the staining pattern between the two groups were not statistically significant ( P < 1.000). Bcl-2 positivity was seen in 10 pterygium samples (58.8%) and 12 controls (70.5%), with no statistical difference between the two groups ( P < 0.455). VEGF expression was seen in both epithelial and endothelial cells of the samples and controls, with no statistical difference between the two groups, with P = 1.000 for the epithelial staining and P = 0.637 for endothelial staining.
Conclusion: The expression of biomarkers was comparable in both groups. We conclude that pterygium, against common belief, might not be a localized disease process but a global ocular phenomenon where the apparently healthy tissue also has some ongoing disease process at a molecular level.
