    Abstract A search for the decays of the Higgs and Z bosons to J/ψγ and ϒ(nS)γ (n=1,2,3) is performed with pp collision data samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 20.3  fb^{-1} collected at sqrt[s]=8  TeV with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed above expected backgrounds and 95% C.L. upper limits are placed on the branching fractions. In the J/ψγ final state the limits are 1.5×10^{-3} and 2.6×10^{-6} for the Higgs and Z boson decays, respectively, while in the ϒ(1S,2S,3S)γ final states the limits are (1.3,1.9,1.3)×10^{-3} and (3.4,6.5,5.4)×10^{-6}, respectively.

    Abstract Fragestellung: In Europa liegt die Prävalenz der Hepatitis C Infektion (positive HCV Antikörper) in der Bevölkerung basierend auf epidemiologische Studien bei 0,5–1,5%. Diese wird möglicherweise unterschätzt. Die HCV Infektion ist lediglich bei ca. 1/4 bis 1/5 der Patienten in Deutschland diagnostiziert. Eine Therapie der HCV Infektion mit dauerhaftem virologischen Ansprechen besteht für über 50% der Patienten. Es stellt sich die Frage, ob zum besseren Verständnis der Prävalenz sowie zur Steigerung der Diagnoserate Screeninguntersuchungen auf HCV Antikörper sinnvoll wären.
    Methoden: In der vorliegenden prospektiven Studie wurden alle Patienten, die sich in der Zentralen Notaufnahme des Klinikums der J.W. Goethe- Universität vorstellten, eingeschlossen. Das Einzugsgebiet erstreckt sich über das Rhein-Main Gebiet mit einer Bevölkerungszahl von ca. 5,5 Millionen Menschen. Zwischen September 2009 und März 2010 wurden insgesamt 6319 Patienten (2757 Frauen, Altersdurchschnitt 50±20 Jahre) im Rahmen der Routinelabordiagnostik auf positive HCV-Antikörpern getestet.
    Ergebnisse: Insgesamt fand sich bei 222 von 6319 Patienten (3,5%, 144 Männer, Altersdurchschnitt 51±16,7 Jahre) ein positiver HCV-Antikörper-Nachweis. Die Mehrheit der Patienten mit positiven HCV-Antikörpern war deutscher Herkunft. Von 182 (91%) der positiv getesteten Patienten stand ausreichend Serum zur Bestimmung der HCV-RNA zur Verfügung und bei 118 (65%) war hier eine HCV-RNA nachweisbar.
    Zusammenfassung: Die HCV-Antikörper Prävalenz in der Zentralen Notaufnahme des Klinikums der J.W. Goethe-Universität erwies sich als wesentlich höher als die eingeschätzte nationale Prävalenzrate (3,5% versus ˜0,5–0,7%). Eine HCV-AK-Bestimmung als Routineuntersuchung bei Patienten in der Notaufnahme, insbesondere in großen Städten, würde zu einer Steigerung der diagnostizierten Patienten führen und eine frühzeitige antivirale Therapie zur Meidung von Spätkomplikationen ermöglichen.

    Abstract Aims: Prevalence of HCV infection in Europe is estimated to be low with 0.5–1.5% of the population having detectable HCV antibodies in observational studies of blood donors and other cohorts. However, HCV infection is under-diagnosed with approximately only one-fourth to one-fifth of the patients currently diagnosed in Germany. Moreover, in an increasing number of patients diagnosis of HCV infection is made in the late stage of disease with already established liver cirrhosis or liver cancer. Treatment of HCV infection is possible with sustained virologic response in more than 50% of patients. Therefore, a more comprehensive screening for HCV infection is required.
    Methods: In the present prospective study, all patients from the Rhein-Main Metropolitan Area comprising a population of 5.5 million, visiting the accident and emergency department of the J. W. Goethe University Hospital, Frankfurt/Main were enrolled to be tested for the presence of HCV antibodies. Between September 2009 and March 2010 a total of 6308 consecutive patients (2753 women, mean age 50±21 years) were tested for HCV antibodies as part of their routine medical work-up.
    Results: In total, 294/6308 patients (4.7%, 110 women, mean age 52±18 years) were tested positive for HCV antibodies. HCV RNA testing of newly diagnosed patients is ongoing. The majority of patients with HCV infection were of German origin. Further serum markers were available in 102 patients. Of these, 41.2% had elevated ALT levels and 28.4% had significant liver fibrosis or cirrhosis as measured by the APRI score.
    Conclusions: The HCV antibody prevalence at the J. W. Goethe University Hospital accident and emergency department was found to be more than six times higher than the estimated national prevalence. Routine testing of HCV antibodies in patients visiting accident and emergency wards, especially in large metropolitan areas may be suitable to enlarge the proportion of diagnosed patients with HCV infection.

    Abstract Surface waters are warming due to climate change, potentially pushing aquatic organisms closer to their thermal tolerance limits. However, cyanobacterial blooms are expected to occur more often with rising temperature, increasing the likelihood of poor‐quality food available for herbivorous zooplankton. Zooplankton can adapt locally by genetic differentiation or via adaptive phenotypic plasticity to increasing temperatures, but there is limited knowledge on how these processes may be affected by food quality limitation imposed by cyanobacteria. To test the effects of cyanobacteria‐mediated food quality on local temperature adaptation, we measured juvenile somatic growth and reproduction of five Daphnia magna clones from different latitudinal origin grown on three food qualities at 20, 24, and 28°C. Additionally we estimated short‐term heat tolerance, measured as knockout time (time to immobility) at lethally high temperature, of two clones acclimated to the three temperatures and two food quality levels to test for the effects of food quality on adaptive plastic responses. As expected, clones from lower latitudes showed on average better somatic growth and reproduction than clones from higher latitudes at higher temperatures. However, the difference in somatic growth diminished with increasing cyanobacteria abundance in the diet, suggesting constraints on local genetic adaptation under predicted decreases in food quality. As expected, short‐term heat tolerance of the clones generally increased with increasing acclimation temperature. However, heat tolerance of animals acclimated to the highest temperature was larger when grown at medium than at good food quality, whereas the opposite response was observed for animals acclimated to the lowest temperature. This suggests a better adaptive phenotypic response of animals to elevated temperatures under higher cyanobacteria abundance, and thus shows an opposite pattern to the results for somatic growth. Overall, we demonstrate that food quality limitation can mediate responses of D. magna life history traits and heat tolerance to increasing temperatures, and that the effects differ depending on the time scale studied, that is, mid‐term (somatic growth) versus short‐term (tolerance to acute heat stress). These aspects will need further attention to accurately predict of how organisms will cope with future global warming by local adaptation and adaptive phenotypic plasticity.

    Abstract Motivation: Up to 75% of the human genome encodes RNAs. The function of many non-coding RNAs relies on their ability to fold into 3D structures. Specifically, nucleotides inside secondary structure loops form non-canonical base pairs that help stabilize complex local 3D structures. These RNA 3D motifs can promote specific interactions with other molecules or serve as catalytic sites.
    Results: We introduce PERFUMES, a computational pipeline to identify 3D motifs that can be associated with observable features. Given a set of RNA sequences with associated binary experimental measurements, PERFUMES searches for RNA 3D motifs using BayesPairing2 and extracts those that are over-represented in the set of positive sequences. It also conducts a thermodynamics analysis of the structural context that can support the interpretation of the predictions. We illustrate PERFUMES' usage on the SNRPA protein binding site, for which the tool retrieved both previously known binder motifs and new ones.

    Abstract Work in computational psychiatry suggests that mood disorders may stem from aberrant reinforcement learning processes. Specifically, it has been proposed that depressed individuals believe that negative events are more informative than positive events, resulting in higher learning rates from negative outcomes (Pulcu and Browning, 2019). In this proof-of-concept study, we investigated whether transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) applied to dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, as commonly used in depression treatment trials, might change learning rates for affective outcomes. Healthy adults completed an established reinforcement learning task (Pulcu and Browning, 2017) in which the information content of reward and loss outcomes was manipulated by varying the volatility of stimulus-outcome associations. Learning rates on the tasks were quantified using computational models. Stimulation over dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) but not motor cortex (M1) increased learning rates specifically for reward outcomes. The effects of prefrontal tDCS were cognitive state-dependent: tDCS applied during task performance increased learning rates for wins; tDCS applied before task performance decreased both win and loss learning rates. A replication study confirmed the key finding that tDCS to DLPFC during task performance increased learning rates specifically for rewards. Taken together, these findings demonstrate the potential of tDCS for modulating computational parameters of reinforcement learning that are relevant to mood disorders.
