Abstract SARS-CoV-2 still presents a global threat to human health due to the continued emergence of new strains and waning immunity amongst vaccinated populations. Therefore, it is still relevant to investigate potential therapeutics, such as therapeutic interfering particles (TIPs). Mathematical and computational modelling are valuable tools to study viral infection dynamics for predictive analysis. Here, we expand on the previous work by Grebennikov et al. (2021) on SARS-CoV-2 intra-cellular replication dynamics to include defective interfering particles (DIPs) as potential therapeutic agents. We formulate a deterministic model that describes the replication of wild-type (WT) SARS-CoV-2 virus in the presence of DIPs. Sensitivity analysis of parameters to several model outputs is employed to inform us on those parameters to be carefully calibrated from experimental data. We then study the effects of co-infection on WT replication and how DIP dose perturbs the release of WT viral particles. Furthermore, we provide a stochastic formulation of the model that is compared to the deterministic one. These models could be further developed into population-level models or used to guide the development and dose of TIPs.

Abstract An annotated checklist of the marine amphipods recorded from Indian waters is compiled from the available peer-reviewed literature. A total of 266 species belonging to 133 genera and 56 families are listed. The maximum numbers of species were recorded from the South Indian Ecoregion (177 species, 98 genera, 47 families), followed by the Western India Ecoregion (101 species, 72 genera, 36 families), the Eastern Indian Ecoregion (99 species, 65 genera, 35 families), the Northern Bay of Bengal Ecoregion (92 species, 53 genera, 29 families), the Maldives Ecoregion (32 species, 24 genera, 16 families), and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Ecoregion (31 species, 22 genera, 18 families). Notes on the questionable identifications and records of some amphipods are also provided.

Abstract An updated checklist of Mozambican marine brachyuran crabs is generated based on an exhaustive revision of the existing literature, together with the additional records provided by the specimens collected throughout the three MOZAMBIQUE surveys carried out in Mozambican waters during three consecutive years (20072009) by the Instituto Espaol de Oceanografa, (Spanish Institute of Oceanography, IEO). A total of 269 species, grouped in 15 superfamilies, 26 families and 172 genera are reported in the checklist, and a detailed inventory is produced with the list and remarks about the brachyuran species collected. Thirty-nine crab species belonging to 19 families were identified based on morphological characteristics and/or genetic tools. DNA barcode sequences (16S rRNA and/or COI) were obtained for 37 species, including 16S and COI sequences that are new for 26 and 14 species, respectively. Colour photographs of fresh specimens illustrate the comments about most species, being the first time that the original colour pattern is described for some of them. New records in Mozambican waters are reported for the species Paromolopsis boasi, Mursia aspera, Carcinoplax ischurodous, Tanaoa pustulosus, Euclosiana exquisita, Oxypleurodon difficilis, Naxioides robillardi, Samadinia galathea, Cyrtomaia gaillardi, Paramaja gibba, Pleistacantha ori, Parathranites granosus, Parathranites orientalis, Ovalipes iridescens and Charybdis smithii, and second records for Moloha alcocki, Samadinia pulchra and Charybdis africana. In addition, Raninoides crosnieri, S. galathea and P. ori were collected for the first time after their descriptions. The female of Samadinia galathea is described for the first time, and a potential new species of Mursia is reported. Some records expand the known bathymetric range of certain species and/or their general distribution. New molecular and morphological data suggest the necessity of the revision of P. boasi, R. crosnieri, C. africana and the genera Platymaia and Carcinoplax. The variability and taxonomic validity of some morphological characters in brachyuran systematic is discussed.

Tuberculosis represents one of the top clinical complications in immunocompromised HIVinfected people. When diagnostic and therapeutic interventions are delayed, outcomes could be fatal due to imminent progress of this deadly combination. Methodology: We carried out a descriptive retrospective study from registered TB/HIV cases from 2000 to 2010 in the municipality of Armenia. Notification forms from both diseases TB and HIV (SIVIGILA), record of home visits, individual treatment cards and death certificates were used as data sources. Results: 113 patients were included with TB/HIV confirmed tests, which represents a global prevalence of 6.8% during 10 years in Armenia. The mean age among patients was 34.3 years (ranging from 11 to 68 years), and the group between 14 and 34 years and male (91% extrapulmonary and 75% pulmonary forms) was the most commonly involved. According to the disease presentation, extrapulmonary TB form (50.4%, n = 57) was more frequent than the pulmonary form. The frequency of extrapulmonary forms was: ganglionar, 50% (n = 32); meningeal, 19.3% (n = 11); miliar, 8.8% (n = 5); pleural, 7% (n = 4); peritoneal, 7% (n = 4), and Pott’s disease, 1.8% (n = 1). In eight cases both forms presented simultaneously (pulmonary and extrapulmonary). Lethality was 100% among VIH positive patients infected with resistant strains. Conclusions: Our results highlight the importance of implementing collaborative actions between TB and HIV programs to improve diagnosis and to reduce mortality and resistant strain dissemination.
