Abstract Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of every economy. So, when an external crisis jeopardizes markets, such as the recent COVID-19 outbreak, SMEs are hit with great force. Their so-called liability of smallness, a lack of resources that would shield them from outside shocks, worsens the situation. This manuscript conducts a literature study on 69 manuscripts that studied SMEs in previous crises and proposes ways to overcome economic downturns in the areas of finance, strategy and the institutional environment. The paper finds a "strategy/funding chicken-and-egg-problem" and proposes an effectual world view when dealing with situations of great uncertainty.

Abstract YgfB-mediated β-lactam resistance was recently identified in multi drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We show that YgfB upregulates expression of the β-lactamase AmpC by repressing the function of the regulator of the programmed cell death pathway AlpA. In response to DNA damage, the antiterminator AlpA induces expression of the alpBCDE autolysis genes and of the peptidoglycan amidase AmpDh3. YgfB interacts with AlpA and represses the ampDh3 expression. Thus, YgfB indirectly prevents AmpDh3 from reducing the levels of cell wall-derived 1,6-anhydro-N-acetylmuramyl-peptides, required to induce the transcriptional activator AmpR in promoting the ampC expression and β-lactam resistance. Ciprofloxacin-mediated DNA damage induces AlpA-dependent production of AmpDh3 as previously shown, which should reduce β-lactam resistance. YgfB, however, counteracts the β-lactam enhancing activity of ciprofloxacin by repressing ampDh3 expression and lowering the benefits of this drug combination. Altogether, YgfB represents an additional player in the complex regulatory network of AmpC regulation.

Abstract Purpose: To explore the perspectives of people with Parkinson's disease (PD) and exercise providers regarding facilitating factors, barriers, needs, and demands relating to physical exercise for people with PD.
Materials and methods: Focus group discussions or telephone interviews of 30 people with PD (with or without an active sports history) and 13 providers were conducted and analyzed using structuring content analysis.
Results: Factors facilitating participation in physical exercise included motivation-enhancing elements (enjoyment, group training environment) and providers with sufficient qualifications in PD-specific training demands. Identified barriers were lack of motivation, physical limitations, poor service accessibility, and inadequate matching of intervention groups based on capability or age. Providers found it difficult to design and conduct group trainings for people with PD with varying physical limitations. Having an active sports history before PD-onset was described as generally beneficial, though a competitive mindset could lead to frustration. People with PD reported needing their physicians to provide better education regarding physical exercise.
Conclusion: Enjoyment of physical exercise is a key aspect of maintaining physical activity engagement, which should be considered more in research and clinical practice. Developing qualifications for providers could help to broaden and enhance the dissemination of PD-specific exercise approaches. Physicians should be trained to encourage physical exercise.Implications for rehabilitationPhysicians should highlight the benefits and be knowledgeable regarding the availability of physical exercise interventions for people with PD.Additional physical exercise providers should become qualified to work with people with PD.The joyfulness of physical exercise interventions is a key aspect of maintaining physical activity engagement for people with PD.

Abstract Background: Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) may occur very early in the course of Parkinson's disease (PD) before the onset of objective cognitive decline. Data on neural correlates and determinants of SCD in PD are rare.
Objective: The aim of the present study was to identify neural correlates as well as sociodemographic, clinical, and neuropsychological predictors of SCD in patients with PD.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 30 patients with PD without cognitive impairment (23% female, 66.90 ± 7.20 years, UPDRS-III: 19.83 ± 9.29), of which n = 12 patients were classified as having no SCD (control group, PD-CG) and n = 18 as having SCD (PD-SCD). Neuropsychological testing and 18-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) were conducted. SCD was assessed using a questionnaire covering multiple cognitive domains.
Results: SCD subscores differed significantly between PD-CG and PD-SCD and correlated significantly with other scales measuring related concepts. FDG-PET whole-brain voxel-wise regression analysis revealed hypometabolism in middle frontal, middle temporal, and occipital areas, and the angular gyrus as neural correlates of SCD in PD. Next to this hypometabolism, depressive symptoms were an independent significant determinant of SCD in a stepwise regression analysis (adjusted R
Conclusion: This study strengthens the hypothesis of SCD being an early manifestation of future cognitive decline in PD and, more generally, early pathological changes in PD. The early identification of the vulnerability for future cognitive decline constitutes the basis for successful prevention and delay of this non-motor symptom.

Abstract The PISA studies provide unique opportunities to investigate the competencies and attitudes of 15-year-olds across the world. Past research investigating environmental awareness (EA) in PISA 2006 found associations between EA and science-related competencies and attitudes. Investigating EA in the PISA studies may have important implications for education for sustainable development (ESD): results may show which factors should be considered in educational interventions to enhance students’ EA. Cross-national analyses of EA may provide insights into the predictors of EA on a local, national or international level. This study investigates the individual, school, and country level predictors of EA in PISA 2015 (365,194 students, 12,594 schools, 53 countries). The multi-level regression analysis on EA reveals that most of the variance is located at the student level. On the individual level, variables related to science learning in school are associated with EA across all countries. This study also compares the degrees of EA in the 2006 and 2015 populations. The results show similar degrees of EA in 2006 and 2015. Altogether, the study provides cross-country evidence on important aspects that should be addressed in successful ESD programs.
