Abstract Emphasizing the interplay of aesthetic forms and religious modes, Sean Pryor's ambitious study takes up the endlessly reiterated longing for paradise that features throughout the works of W. B. Yeats and Ezra Pound. Throughout his study, Pryor argues that Yeats and Pound reconceive the quest for paradise as a persuit for a new kind of poetry, a journey that Pryor traces by analysing unpublished manuscript drafts and newly published drafts that have received little attention

Abstract Osteopetrosis is a heterogenous group of inheritable disorders which manifests as increased bone density and brittleness. The most common and mildest variant typically presents in adulthood with bone pain and pathologic fractures, including spondylolysis. We present the case of an otherwise healthy, active 17-year-old male with a history of osteopetrosis and 1 year of chronic back pain, found to have multilevel (L1-L4) spondylolysis in the setting of severe diffuse bony sclerosis consistent with osteopetrosis. While single-level spondylolysis is an uncommon complication of osteopetrosis, multilevel spondylolysis in the pediatric population is extremely rare and the genetics of prior cases studies have not been reported. Spondylolysis should be considered as one of the types of fractures that may occur in patients with osteopetrosis.

Abstract This paper examines the impact of messages about sexual danger women receive from parents, peers, media, school officials, and past victimization on fear of stranger and acquaintance rape. Analyzing survey data for 630 undergraduate women, we find that parental warnings, internalized mean world view, university crime alerts, and being more prone to anxiety are significant predictors of fear of rape across models, while effects of media and victimization are limited. When high and low proneness to anxiety subgroups are considered separately, numerous differences emerge. Results suggest the need to include formal measures of anxiety in future fear of crime research.

Abstract Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is an effective means of treating muscle spasm and pain. A novel near-infrared laser system has been commercialized for the treatment of myofascial pelvic pain in women (SoLá Therapy, UroShape, LLC). This study was undertaken to determine if this device is capable of delivering therapeutic levels of irradiance to the pelvic muscles and to identify the surface irradiance required to achieve this goal. This novel class IV near-infrared laser and transvaginal applicator were used to deliver near-infrared light energy through the vaginal mucosa of an adult Suffolk/Dorset Ewe. Irradiance was measured on the surface of the levator ani muscle, inside the levator ani muscle, and inside the bladder. Measurements were taken at powers of 5 W and 0.5 W. 3.0% of vaginal surface irradiance was measured inside of the levator ani muscle. 4.4% of vaginal surface irradiance was measured inside the bladder. At 5 W, the novel laser system provided a surface irradiance of 738 mW/cm

Abstract Enzyme immobilization has been identified as one way to recycle enzymes and reduce processing costs during enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulosic materials. However, most immobilization methods have not been attractive to lignocellulosic processing plants. In this study, cellulase enzymes were attached to a copolymer of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PEGMA) to make polymer-enzyme conjugates (PECs) and facilitate recovery using a 50-kDa molecular weight cutoff membrane. Glucan conversion during biomass hydrolysis was investigated using new PECs and PECs recovered after an initial hydrolysis stage. Enzyme immobilization on PECs did not reduce effectiveness during the initial hydrolysis. Temperature and pH showed similar effects on free enzymes and PECs. PECs facilitated higher conversion rates than free enzymes at high biomass loadings. Recovered PECs were used to achieve approximately 100% glucan conversion in a subsequent hydrolysis step when supplemented with 40% of the free enzyme used in the first stage. The combination of PECs and membrane recovery has the potential to reduce hydrolysis cost during cellulosic bioprocessing.

Abstract Background: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an often-chronic illness, and we lack biomarkers to predict long-term outcome. Recent neuroimaging studies using caloric taste stimuli suggest that paradigms that have tested conditioned neural responses to expectation or salient stimulus receipt may underpin behaviors. However, whether activation of those neural circuits can predict long-term outcome has not been studied.
Methods: We followed women treated for AN (n = 35, mean age [SD] = 23 [7] years) and tested whether functional imaging brain response during a taste conditioning paradigm could predict posttreatment body mass index (BMI). We anticipated greater neural activity relative to caloric stimulus expectation and that dopamine-related receipt conditions would predict lower posttreatment BMI, indicating fear-associated arousal.
Results: Follow-up occurred at mean (SD) = 1648 (1216) days after imaging. Stimulus expectation in orbitofrontal and striatal regions and BMI and BMI change at follow-up were negatively correlated, and these correlations remained significant for the right superior orbitofrontal cortex and BMI change after multiple comparison correction (r = -0.484, p = .003). This relationship remained significant after including time between brain scanning and follow-up in the model. Reward prediction error response did not predict long-term BMI.
Conclusions: The orbitofrontal cortex is involved in learning and conditioning, and these data implicate this region in learned caloric stimulus expectation and long-term prediction of weight outcomes in AN. Thus, conditioned elevated brain response to the anticipation of receiving a caloric stimulus may drive food avoidance, suggesting that breaking such associations is central for long-term recovery from AN.
