Abstract Soil organic phosphorus (P) mineralization is catalyzed by phosphatases synthesized by plants or microorganisms, particularly when organic P is present and inorganic P is limited. We investigated how P status affects the substrate induction response of phosphatase activities and changes in labile inorganic P (ΔNaHCO3-Pi) by adding phosphodiester to long-term low P and high P-fertilized soils. Phosphodiester addition significantly increased acid phosphomonoesterase activity and ΔNaHCO3-Pi, while exhibiting non-significant effect on phosphodiesterase activity. No significant differences were observed in phosphodiester-induced phosphatase activities and ΔNaHCO3-Pi between the low P and high P-fertilized soils. Our results indicate that phosphodiester may incentivize microbially mediated enzymatic P mineralization not necessarily for P but possibly for energy. This emphasizes the importance of phosphodiester in the development of microbial strategies for mobilizing soil P.

Abstract We introduce the concept of the nucleon energy correlators, a set of novel objects that encode the microscopic details of a nucleon, such as the parton angular distribution in a nucleon, the collinear splitting to all orders, as well as the internal transverse dynamics of the nucleon. The nucleon energy correlators complement the conventional nucleon or nucleus tomography, but without introducing the nonperturbative fragmentation functions or the jet clustering algorithms. We demonstrate how the nucleon energy correlators can be measured in the lepton-nucleon deep inelastic scattering. The predicted distributions display a fascinating phase transition between the perturbative and nonperturbative regime. In the perturbative phase, a polar angle version of the Bjorken scaling behavior is predicted. We discuss its possible applications and expect it to aggrandize the physics content at the electron ion colliders with a far-forward detector.

Abstract Addressing the substantial yearly production of waste dredged slurry with high water content, it is imperative to adopt effective technical treatments for sustainable development. This paper establishes that the curing-flocculation-vacuum filtration (C-F-VF) method efficiently converts high-water content dredged slurry into back-fill soil, achieving rapid dewatering. The study delves into the mechanism facilitating swift dewatering and the heightened mechanical properties of the dewatered soil. The synergy of curing, flocculation, and vacuum filtration expedites the dewatering process. The pre-addition of a curing agent reduces the zeta potential of the slurry, enhancing its efficiency in subsequent flocculation and vacuum filtration. Although the curing agent experiences some loss during vacuum filtration, over 91.22% remains in the dewatered soil, fortifying its strength. Soil strength correlates with the water content post-vacuum filtration and the amount of cement added pre-filtration, with a proposed relevant strength prediction formula.

Abstract Membrane distillation (MD) has attracted considerable interest in hypersaline wastewater treatment. However, its practicability is severely impeded by the ineffective interception of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which seriously affects the product water quality. Herein, a hypercrosslinked alginate (Alg)/aluminum (Al) hydrogel composite membrane is facilely fabricated via Alg pregel formation and ionic crosslinking for efficient VOC interception. The obtained MD membrane shows a sufficient phenol rejection of 99.52% at the phenol concentration of 100 ppm, which is the highest rejection among the reported MD membranes. Moreover, the hydrogel composite membrane maintains a high phenol interception (>99%), regardless of the feed temperature, initial phenol concentration, and operating time. Diffusion experiments and molecular dynamics simulation verify that the selective diffusion is the dominant mechanism for VOCs-water separation. Phenol experiences a higher energy barrier to pass through the dense hydrogel layer compared to water molecules as the stronger interaction between phenol-Alg compared with water-Alg. Benefited from the dense and hydratable Alg/Al hydrogel layer, the composite membrane also exhibits robust resistance to wetting and fouling during long-term operation. The superior VOCs removal efficiency and excellent durability endow the hydrogel composite membrane with a promising application for treating complex wastewater containing both volatile and nonvolatile contaminants.

Abstract The Eurasian steppe is one of the world's largest continuous areas of grassland and has an important role in supporting livestock grazing, the most ubiquitous land use on Earth. However, the Eurasian steppe is under threat, from irrational grazing utilization, climate change, and resource exploitation. We used an ensemble modeling approach to predict the current and future distribution of Stipa-dominated plant communities in three important steppe subregions; the Tibetan Alpine, Central Asian, and Black Sea-Kazakhstan subregions. We combined this with an assessment of the grazing value of 22 Stipa species, the dominant grassland species in the area, to predict how grazing value might change under future climate change predictions. We found that the effects of changing climates on grazing values differed across the three subregions. Grazing values increased in the Tibetan alpine steppe and to a lesser extent in Central Asia, but there were few changes in the Black Sea-Kazakhstan subregion. The response of different species to changing climates varied with environmental variables. Finally, our trait-based assessment of Stipa species revealed variations in grazing value, and this had major effects on the overall grazing value of the region. Our results reinforce the importance of trait-based characteristics of steppe plant species, how these traits affect grazing value, and how grazing values will change across different areas of the Eurasian steppe. Our work provides valuable insights into how different species will respond to changing climates and grazing, with important implications for sustainable management of different areas of the vast Eurasian steppe ecosystem.

However, the wide application of the technique is severely impeded by low freshwater production and membrane fouling/wetting issues. Herein, we developed an advanced hydrogel-engineered membrane with simultaneously enhanced photothermal conversion capacity and desired fouling and wetting resistance for PMD. Abstract Objective: To determine the karyotype of a patient with mosaicism complex structural aberration of chromosome 18.
Methods: A male patient with a 2-year history of infertility presented at the Center of Reproductive Medicine of the Third Hospital of Peking University in October 2019 was selected as the study subject. Clinical data of the patient was collected. Peripheral blood sample was taken for chromosomal karyotyping, copy number variation (CNV) analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay. Semen sample was taken for single sperm CNV analysis.
Results: The patient was found to have a karyotype of mos 47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)[84]/46,XY,del(18)(q21q23)[9]/48,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)×2[6]/47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23×2)[1].ish 47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)[84]/46,XY,del(18)(q21q23)[9]/48,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23)×2[6]/47,XY,del(18)(q21q23),+r(18)(q21q23×2)[1]del(18)(q21q23)(D18Z1+,18p+,18q+,WCP18+),r(18)(q21q23)(WCP18+),r(18)(q21q23×2)(WCP18+). No pathogenic CNV was identified. Sequencing of 20 single sperms showed that 1 sperm was normal, 1 had yielded no result, 9 had harbored del(18q), 7 had harbored dup(18q)×2, and 2 had harbored dup(18q)×3. The dup/del fragments had both spanned approximately 33 Mb.
Conclusion: It is rare for carriers of complex structural and numerical abnormalities of chromosome 18 to have a normal phenotype. Based on the accurate cytogenetic and molecular analyses and the single sperm CNV analysis, the influence of the aberrant karyotype on the gametogenesis may be evaluated.

Abstract Drones are widely used for wildlife monitoring. Deep learning algorithms are key to the success of monitoring wildlife with drones, although they face the problem of detecting small targets. To solve this problem, we have introduced the SE-YOLO model, which incorporates a channel self-attention mechanism into the advanced real-time object detection algorithm YOLOv7, enabling the model to perform effectively on small targets. However, there is another barrier; the lack of publicly available UAV wildlife aerial datasets hampers research on UAV wildlife monitoring algorithms. To fill this gap, we present a large-scale, multi-class, high-quality dataset called WAID (Wildlife Aerial Images from Drone), which contains 14,375 UAV aerial images from different environmental conditions, covering six wildlife species and multiple habitat types. We conducted a statistical analysis experiment, an algorithm detection comparison experiment, and a dataset generalization experiment. The statistical analysis experiment demonstrated the dataset characteristics both quantitatively and intuitively. The comparison and generalization experiments compared different types of advanced algorithms as well as the SE-YOLO method from the perspective of the practical application of UAVs for wildlife monitoring. The experimental results show that WAID is suitable for the study of wildlife monitoring algorithms for UAVs, and SE-YOLO is the most effective in this scenario, with a mAP of up to 0.983. This study brings new methods, data, and inspiration to the field of wildlife monitoring by UAVs.
