Abstract: ... Araplara Türkçe öğretimi amacıyla hazırlanmış olan Kaşgarlı Mahmut Türkçe Öğretim Seti kültür aktarımı ...

Abstract Language is a communication tool in its simplest definition.Culture can be defined as everything that has become the symbol andnational value of a nation. Relationship between language and culturehas been known since their existence. Language feeds culture while theculture feeds the language. There is a connection in between a languageand a culture in this manner. This relationship should be paid attentionin all mentioned areas about the language and culture. Relationshipbetween language and culture should be on the screen at every stage oflanguage teaching as it is one of these areas. As language teaching is tomean cultural transmission at the same time. For this reason, it isfocused on importance of culture transmission in language teaching inthe Common Framework Text for Education of European Languages. In this study, first it is focused on the position and importance ofprepared textbooks in the process of culture transferring throughteaching Turkish, accepting the idea “language teaching is a tool inintercultural interaction”. Later, Mahmud Al Kashgari Turkish TeachingSet which was prepared for teaching Turkish to Arabs was discussed inthe context of cultural transmission and evaluated according to certaincriteria. As a result of these analyzes, it is come out that the transferwas done more in the texts of the main level than in the mid-rangeones, and also the transforming were often found to be direct. It wasobserved that there were more literary and historical texts in the midleveltransmissions. According to these results it is thought that thereshould be given more feature related items of Turkish life andtraditions.

Abstract Introduction: The purpose of this study is to compare the loneliness, psychological well- being, depression, and social participation of elderly people living in Turkish society between rural and urban areas. The sample group of the study, in which a correlational survey model was used, consisted of 610 elderly adults.
Method: The study population consists of two groups: the first group consists of individuals over 65 years of age living in the city (Istanbul) (n= 291), and the second group consists of individuals over 65 years of age living in rural areas (rural areas of Ordu) (n= 319). Socio-demographic Information Form, Loneliness in the Elderly Scale, Geriatric Depression Scale, Psychological Well-Being in the Elderly Scale, and Social Inclusion Scale were applied online. Statistical analyses of the study were conducted using SPSS 27.00, and the Independent Samples t-test and ANOVA test were used.
Results: According to the findings of this study, statistically significant results were found in psychological well-being, social inclusion, social relations, loneliness and depression, and place of residence. It was observed that the social isolation and social acceptance levels of those living in urban areas were higher than those living in rural areas. Social, loneliness, and depression scores of those living in the village/town were found to be higher than those living in the city centre. Furthermore, the social relationship scores of those living in the village/town were found to be higher than those living in the city centre.
Conclusion: The increasing elderly population worldwide has become an issue that requires global measures. Place of residence is one of the factors thought to affect older people's health and well- being. It is thought that the study data will contribute to new policies that will ensure the protection and promotion of elderly health and those working in this field. In addition, the study, which provides information about Turkish culture, will also enable intercultural comparisons.

Abstract It is a crucial ability to predict others' psychological states across time and contexts. Focusing on cultural inventions such as songs and stories, we contrasted children's attributions of stability with others' knowledge and preference states across time and space and whether these attributions change as a function of children's familiarity with the known/liked items. Children (91 4-year-olds and 97 6-year-olds) were introduced to characters who knew or liked a song, a story, a game and a dance that were either novel or familiar. Children were asked whether the characters would still know/like these when they move to another city or when they grow up to be an adult. Both age groups expected these attributes to be more durable in the moving scenario compared with the growing-up scenario, but this trend became more robust with age. Whereas overall children did not judge knowledge as more durable than preferences, children found knowledge to be more enduring with age. The 6-year-olds' stability attributions also increased when known/liked items were familiar. These results suggest that, across the preschool years, children become more nuanced in their predictions about the future forms of knowledge and preference states.

Abstract This paper aims to decide the best parameter estimation methods for the parameters of the Gumbel type-I distribution under the type-II censorship scheme. For this purpose, classical and Bayesian parameter estimation procedures are considered. The maximum likelihood estimators are used for the classical parameter estimation procedure. The asymptotic distributions of these estimators are also derived. It is not possible to obtain explicit solutions of Bayesian estimators. Therefore, Markov Chain Monte Carlo, and Lindley techniques are taken into account to estimate the unknown parameters. In Bayesian analysis, it is very important to determine an appropriate combination of a prior distribution and a loss function. Therefore, two different prior distributions are used. Also, the Bayesian estimators concerning the parameters of interest under various loss functions are investigated. The Gibbs sampling algorithm is used to construct the Bayesian credible intervals. Then, the efficiencies of the maximum likelihood estimators are compared with Bayesian estimators via an extensive Monte Carlo simulation study. It has been shown that the Bayesian estimators are considerably more efficient than the maximum likelihood estimators. Finally, a real-life example is also presented for application purposes.

Abstract Introduction: Schwannomas originate from the peripheral nerve sheaths and are mainly detected in the head, neck, or extremities. They are rarely encountered in the penoscrotal region.
Case presentation: Herein, we present a case of a penoscrotal schwannoma diagnosed and successfully treated in our center. A 40-year-old patient with a history of resection of a dorsal penile schwannoma presented with multiple nodular lesions at the scrotum, penile shaft, and radix, which were first noticed five years before his current presentation. He complained about penile pain and dyspareunia. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed for pre-operative diagnosis. All nodular lesions were resected while preserving the neurovascular structures. The histopathological examination revealed benign lesions. The patient's complaints were resolved, and there was no recurrence during the one-year follow-up.
Conclusion: The primary treatment is surgical excision. The patients need close follow-up regarding the risks of recurrence and malignant transformation.

Abstract Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate quality of life (QoL) in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma receiving adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT).
Methods: The European Organization for Cancer Research and Treatment Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30 (QLQ-C30) and site-specific module for gastric cancer (QLQ-STO22) were administered at four time points to 156 patients admitted to Cumhuriyet University Oncology Center between 2011 and 2018.
Results: The patient group comprised 76% men and 24% women with a median age of 61 years (range, 18-88). During CRT, 12 patients (8%) discontinued treatment, 25 (16%) lost weight, and 42 (27%) had reduced performance. There was significant worsening in QLQ-C30 global health status and all functional and symptom scale scores at CRT completion. These changes were also clinically significant except for physical functioning scores and were supported by minimal clinically important difference measurements. In the QLQ-STO22, all symptoms except dry mouth and hair loss were negatively affected at CRT completion. In general, scores were improved at 1 month after CRT and almost all scores reached baseline level by 6 months. Certain scores were more adversely affected in women (global health status, physical functioning, role functioning, fatigue, pain, and insomnia), those who lost weight during CRT (emotional functioning), and those with CRT interruption (emotional functioning and anxiety).
Conclusion: Although CRT reduces QoL in patients with gastric cancer, the effects tend to resolve within 6 months after completing treatment. Female sex, weight loss, and CRT interruption negatively affected some QoL scores.

Abstract Introduction: Hip fracture is very common in advanced ages, and it is very likely that this condition is accompanied by nutritional deficiencies. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of prognostic nutritional index (PNI) on postoperative mortality in geriatric patients who underwent hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fracture.
Materials and methods: Geriatric patients (aged ≥ 70 years) who underwent hip arthroplasty for femoral neck fracture were prospectively recruited. The patients' demographic data, time until surgery, total hospital stay, perioperative blood transfusion, duration of surgery and anesthesia, serum albumin level, total lymphocyte count, PNI value, and first-year mortality were examined. They were divided into two groups as patients who died and those who did not die within the 1st year, and between-group comparisons for continuous and categorical variables were made using independent t test and Chi-square test, respectively. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was constructed, and a cutoff value for PNI was determined based on sensitivity and specificity values.
Results: The total number of participants was 124. The mean age was 80.40 ± 7.19 years: 77 (62.1%) were female and 47 (37.9%) were male. PNI was statistically significant for 1-year mortality in multivariate Cox regression analysis (p < 0.05). According to ROC curve analysis, the area under the curve for PNI level was found to be 0.764 (95% CI 0.670-0.857), and this value was statistically significant (p < 0.001). The sensitivity and specificity for the 38.4 cutoff value were 83.9% and 39.8%, respectively. The mean age, time after surgery, total hospital stay, and preoperative blood transfusion need were found to be statistically higher in the patients with low PNI levels (≤ 38.4) than those in the other patients (> 38.4) (p < 0.05 for all).
Conclusion: PNI seems to be an independent risk factor on mortality after hip fracture surgery in geriatric patients. PNI is a preventable and correctable risk factor that affects patient survival.

Abstract Background: In the current study, the effect of hormone receptor (HR) status on clinical and survival in early-stage human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer was investigated.
Methods: Two hundred ninety-one patients with HER2- positive were examined in two categories as HR-positive and HR-negative.
Results: Of these, 197 (68%) were HR-positive and 94 (32%) were HR-negative with a mean follow-up period of 68 ± 2.7 months. The groups were found to be similar in terms of age, menopausal status, comorbidity, pathologic type, stage, T stage, N stage, lymphovascular invasion, presence and percentage of intraductal component, multicentricity/focality and extracapsular invasion. Family history (P = 0.038), stage 2 tumor rate (P < 0.001), and perineural invasion (P = 0.005) were significantly higher in the HR-positive group. In the HR-negative group, mean Ki-67 value (P = 0.014), stage 3 tumor rate (P < 0.001), tumor necrosis (P = 0.004) and strong (3+) HER2 staining on immunohistochemical staining (P = 0.003) were higher. The incidence of relapse and metastasis, and the localization of metastasis were similar in both patient groups. The rate of locoregional relapse during the first 2 years was higher in the HR-negative patients than in the HR-positive patients (P = 0.023). Overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) did not differ between the groups in univariate analysis. However, HR status was determined as an independent prognostic factor (HR: 2.11, 95% CI: 1.17-3.79; P = 0.012) for OS was not found to be significant for DFS in multivariate analysis.
Conclusion: Both clinicopathologic features and OS outcomes of HR-negative patients were worse than those of HR-positive patients.

Abstract Objectives: In this study, we aimed to translate and culturally adapt the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Hallux Metatarsophalangeal (MTP)-Interphalangeal (IP) scale, which is used for the clinical assessment of patients with hallux valgus (HV), into Turkish and to evaluate its validity and reliability.
Patients and methods: Between February 2022 and October 2022, a total of 67 patients (18 males, 49 females; mean age: 51.5±15.9 years; range, 18 to 68 years) with HV deformity and able to communicate in Turkish were included. Following the translation of the AOFAS hallux MTP-IP scale into Turkish, its cultural appropriateness was confirmed. Intra-rater and inter-rater reliabilities were assessed by intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), using data collected by two orthopedists. Agreement among test-retest evaluations was conducted using the Bland-Altman analysis. The construct validity of the scale was determined by the Manchester-Oxford Foot Questionnaire (MOXFQ) and Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Content validity was confirmed by the floor/ceiling effects.
Results: The Turkish AOFAS hallux MTP-IP had an excellent intra-rater reliability of 0.971. The intra-rater reliability of the pain, function, and alignment subscales ranged from 0.904 to 0.978. The inter-rater reliability was 0.913 for the total score, while ranging from 0.838 to 0.918 for the subscales. The total score of the AOFAS hallux MTP-IP had a high correlation with the physical domains of the MOXFQ and SF-36, while weaker correlations with mental domains were observed. No floor/ceiling effect was observed for the overall Turkish AOFAS hallux MTP-IP.
Conclusion: The Turkish translated and culturally adapted AOFAS hallux MTP-IP scale is a valid and reliable measure, ensuring its use in assessing the clinical status of Turkish patients with HV deformity.

Abstract Background: Life expectancy is a significant result indicator of public health and sustainable development. Therefore, one of the final objectives of all economic and social policies is to increase the life expectancy. In this context, a limited number of researchers have investigated the relationship between ICT penetration and life expectancy. However, multiple interaction channels exist between ICT penetration and life expectancy. Furthermore, the studies have usually focused on the effect of ICT penetration on life expectancy through regression and ignored the effect of life expectancy on ICT penetration to a large extent. Therefore, this study aims to contribute to the empirical literature by investigating the causal relationship between ICT indicators and life expectancy.
Methods: This study uses symmetric and asymmetric causality approaches to investigate the two-way interaction between ICT indicators and life expectancy in emerging market economies over the 1997-2020 period. Employment of the asymmetric causality test enables us to analyze the hidden relationships between ICT indicators and life expectancy, unlike the traditional causality test.
Results: The results of the symmetric causality test uncover a bidirectional causal interaction between mobile subscriptions and life expectancy but a one-way causal relationship from life expectancy to internet usage. However, the asymmetric causality test results uncover a unidirectional causal relationship between mobile subscriptions and life expectancy in China, Colombia, Czechia, Egypt, Greece, India, Kuwait and Turkiye due to positive shocks from mobile subscriptions. On the other hand, a bidirectional causal interaction exists between internet usage and life expectancy in all countries due to negative shocks from internet usage and life expectancy. Last, a unidirectional causal relationship exists between internet usage and life expectancy in all countries due to positive shocks from internet usage.
Conclusion: ICT indicators significantly influence life expectancy health in a sample of emerging market economies. Therefore, internet usage and mobile devices are significant tools to improve life expectancy.
