Abstract Introduction: Three-dimensional (3D)-printed models have become increasingly popular as an alternative to the traditional method of cadaveric dissection in teaching anatomy. It has the advantage of lower cost and higher reproducibility. It has been widely used in the postgraduate setting, but its efficacy in undergraduate education has not been studied extensively.
Objectives: A scoping review of the literature was undertaken systematically to investigate the role of 3D printing in the anatomy education of undergraduate medical students.
Methods: A systematic literature search of databases (EMBASE, Pubmed, Educational Resources Information Center, British Education Index and Australian Education Index) was undertaken using relevant keywords.
Results: The search yielded 83 results, which were narrowed down to 13 articles after application of exclusion criteria. The literature supported that 3D printing was a useful tool for studying normal, uncommon and pathological anatomy. However, limitations include low fidelity in replicating the colour and textural physical properties of soft tissues and the trade-off between cost and fidelity.
Conclusions: It is believed that 3D printing would increasingly be integrated into undergraduate anatomy education, and it might also potentially be used in the assessment of anatomical knowledge and clinical skills training. The establishment of an online 3D model database may facilitate educators to easily manufacture models for specific educational purposes.

Abstract Background: In academic specialties such as neurosurgery, bibliometrics are often used to guide readers, academic institutes, and researchers to make objective assessment of journals. Recently, new indices have been developed to overcome the shortcomings of the widely used Impact Factor. The objective of our study was to investigate the correlations among 6 of the commonly used bibliometric indices (Impact Factor, SCImago Journal indicator, SCOPUS h-index, Google h-index, Eigenfactor, Article Influence Score) in neurosurgical and spinal surgical journals.
Methods: A list of all neurosurgical and spinal surgical journals was compiled using the databases of SCOPUS, Clarivate Analytics (Thomson Reuters), and National Library of Medicine Catalog. Journals that are not surgically oriented, non-English journals, and nursing journals were excluded. Bivariate Spearman ranking correlation tests were performed.
Results: Fifty-four journals were included, of which 14 were spine themed. High positive correlations were obtained among the bibliometric indices of neurosurgical (nonspinal) journals (P < 0.05 in all pairs). Median values were 1.54, 0.66, 53, 25, 0.0035, and 0.46 for Impact Factor, SCImago Journal rank indicator, SCOPUS h-index, Google h-index, Eigenfactor, and Article Influence Score, respectively. However, the correlations for spinal surgical journals were more variable, likely because of the small sample size.
Conclusions: Despite the different mathematical basis among the citation-based bibliometric indices studied, they have strong correlations in ranking neurosurgical journals. This study provides evidence that the newer indices may be used interchangeably with the Impact Factor in this context, and they may, theoretically, mitigate some the shortcomings of the Impact Factor.

Abstract The last decade has witnessed a major expansion in endovascular interventions concurrent with a contraction of open neurovascular surgeries. Whether research efforts have also shifted from open to endovascular neurosurgery is an effect that has not been explored extensively. Understanding the bibliometric trend is important for researchers, funding agencies, and publishing journals. The aim of this review is to explore this potential shift. We compared the bibliometrics of open cerebrovascular and endovascular research articles published in two neurosurgical journals (Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery) and two neuroradiological journals (Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, American Journal of Neuroradiology). Data were collected between September 26, 2021, and October 18, 2021. Articles published in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019 from the journals were screened. Neurovascular articles were classified into open surgical, endovascular, or mixed. Bibliometric parameters were collected via SCOPUS and journals' websites. A total of 8,018 articles were screened, of which 1,551 were included (16.2% open, 62.2% endovascular, 21.5% mixed). Most articles were related to aneurysms (76%). Open-access status correlated with increased citations (p<0.001) and Altmetric (p<0.001), which measures online activity. Comparing 2011 and 2019, the article distribution (open/endovascular/mixed) has changed significantly (χ
