    Abstract The decay B(s)(0) → J/ψK+ K- is investigated using 0.16  fb(-1) of data collected with the LHCb detector using 7 TeV pp collisions. Although the J/ψϕ channel is well known, final states at higher K+ K- masses have not previously been studied. In the K+ K- mass spectrum we observe a significant signal in the f(2)'(1525) region as well as a nonresonant component. After subtracting the nonresonant component, we find B(B(s)(0) → J/ψf(2)'(1525))/B(B(s)(0) → J/ψϕ) = (26.4 ± 2.7 ± 2.4)%.

    Abstract We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in B(s)(0) → J/ψϕ decays, using data collected with the LHCb detector at the LHC. The decay time distribution of B(s)(0) → J/ψϕ is characterized by the decay widths Γ(H) and Γ(L) of the heavy and light mass eigenstates, respectively, of the B(s)(0) - B(s)(0) system and by a CP-violating phase ϕ(s). In a sample of about 8500 B(s)(0) → J/ψϕ events isolated from 0.37  fb(-1) of pp collisions at sqrt[s] = 7  TeV, we measure ϕ(s) = 0.15 ± 0.18(stat) ± 0.06(syst)  rad. We also find an average B(s)(0) decay width Γ(s) ≡ (Γ(L) + Γ(H))/2 = 0.657 ± 0.009(stat) ± 0.008(syst)  ps(-1) and a decay width difference ΔΓ(s) ≡ Γ(L) - Γ(H) = 0.123 ± 0.029(stat) ± 0.011(syst)  ps(-1). Our measurement is insensitive to the transformation (ϕ(s),ΔΓ(s)) ↦ (π - ϕ(s), -ΔΓ(s)).

    Abstract The effective lifetime of the B ¯(s)(0) meson in the decay mode B¯(s)(0)→J/ψf(0)(980) is measured using 1.0 fb(-1) of data collected in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV with the LHCb detector. The result is 1.700±0.040±0.026 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. As the final state is CP-odd, and CP violation in this mode is measured to be small, the lifetime measurement can be translated into a measurement of the decay width of the heavy B¯(s)(0) mass eigenstate, Γ(H)=0.588±0.014±0.009 ps(-1).

    Abstract In this study, porous poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) fibers were produced by melt blowing cocontinuous blends of PBT and polystyrene (PS) and selectively extracting the interconnected PS domains. Small amounts of hydroxyl terminated PS additives that can undergo transesterification with the ester units in PBT were added to stabilize the cocontinuous structure during melt processing. The resulting fibers are highly ductile and display fine porous structural features, which persist at temperatures over 150 °C. Single fiber tensile testing and electron microscopy are presented to demonstrate the role of rapid quenching and drawing of the melt blowing process in defining the fiber properties. The templated highly aligned pore structure, which is not easily produced in solvent-based fiber spinning methods, leads to remarkable mechanical properties of the porous fibers and overcomes the notoriously poor tensile properties common to other cellular materials like foams.

    Abstract Introduction and hypothesis: Limited evidence exists regarding long-term outcomes following birth after prior obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASI). This article set out to describe outcomes following birth after OASI by reviewing the grades of tear, endoanal ultrasound (EAUS) findings, subsequent delivery outcomes and long-term symptoms.
    Methods: This study was conducted in two parts. The first involved a retrospective review of all OASI at a tertiary hospital in Australia over 7 years (2013-2019 inclusive) where the patient underwent a subsequent delivery. Following this, a retrospective cohort survey of this group was performed.
    Results: There were 27,284 vaginal births and 828 OASIs (3.03%); 247 (29.8%) had at least one subsequent birth by January 2021. Vaginal delivery occurred in 68%; recurrence of OASI was 5.4%. There were 90 responses (36.4%) to the follow-up survey. EAUS had been performed in 87.5%; none demonstrated a defect. Vaginal birth was the preferred mode for 77.8%; this occurred in 64%. The majority had high levels of satisfaction, this related to communication rather than the mode of delivery itself. Ongoing faecal or flatal incontinence was reported by 12%. There was no statistically significant difference in St Mark's incontinence scores between modes of birth.
    Conclusions: In our unit most women who sustain OASI will have a subsequent vaginal delivery in future pregnancies. The majority remain asymptomatic at long-term follow-up with no statistically significant difference in incontinence scores regardless of mode of delivery. The rate of recurrent OASI was 5.4%.
