Abstract Purpose: The most popular knee posterolateral corner (PLC) reconstruction techniques describe that a common peroneal nerve (CPN) neurolysis must be done to safely address the posterolateral aspect of the knee. The purpose of this study was to measure the distance between the CPN and the fibular insertion of the FCL in different degrees of knee flexion in cadaveric specimens, to identify if tunnel drilling could be done anatomically and safely without a CPN neurolysis.
Methods: Ex vivo experimental analytical study. Ten fresh frozen human knees were dissected leaving FCL and CPN in situ. Shortest distance from the centre of the FCL distal tunnel and CPN was measured (antero-posterior and proximal-distal wire-nerve distances) at 90°, 60°, 30°, and 0° of knee flexion. Measurements between different flexion angles were compared and correlation between knee flexion angle and distance was identified.
Results: The mean distance between the FCL tunnel and the CPN at 90° were 21.15 ± 6.74 mm posteriorly (95% CI: 16.33-25.97) and 13.01 ± 3.55 mm distally (95% CI: 10.47-15.55). The minimum values were 9.8 mm posteriorly and 8.9 mm, respectively. These distances were smaller at 0° (p ≤ 0.017). At 90° of knee flexion, the mean distance from the fibular tip to the CPN distally was 23.46 ± 4.13 mm (20.51-26.41).
Conclusion: Anatomic localization and orientation of fibular tunnels can be done safely while avoiding nerve neurolysis. Further studies should aim to in vivo measurements and results.

Abstract Background: The Portuguese Society of Nephrology (PSN) reported that Portugal has one of the highest incidences of dialysis in Europe. However, this claim was based on aggregated data supplied by dialysis providers, hampering comparisons between countries. In 2009, an individual registry of patients starting dialysis was set up by the Portuguese Ministry of Health. We analysed individual data of patients starting dialysis from January 2010 until December 2016.
Methods: Demography, starting treatment day, modality, regional distribution and outcomes, such as death, recovery of renal function, transfer to renal transplantation, peritoneal dialysis or conservative management, were extracted. Incidence, prevalence and survival analysis were calculated and compared with the PSN registry.
Results: Out of 19 190 registrations, 16 775 were incident patients (61.8% men). Yearly incidence of renal replacement therapy was 250, 248, 229, 239, 230, 231 and 244 per million population (p.m.p.) for 2010 to 2016, compared with 235, 224, 218, 230, 234, 225 and 239 p.m.p. reported by the PSN registry. On the other hand, prevalence increased from 998 p.m.p. in 2010 to 1286 p.m.p. in 2016, compared with 1010 p.m.p. in 2010 increasing to 1203 p.m.p. in 2016 from the PSN registry. The regions of Alentejo (122.9 p.m.p.) and the the Centre (160.8 p.m.p.) had the lowest regional incidence, while Lisbon had the highest (386 p.m.p. in 2016). Unadjusted survival analysis revealed that 93.5% of the patients were alive on the 91st day, whereas 85.2 and 78.3% were alive at 1 and 2 years, respectively. Crude survival at 7 years was 40%.
Conclusions: For the first time, an individual registry of patients starting dialysis in Portugal was subject to analysis and added new information about long-term survival and regional differences in the incidence and prevalence of renal replacement therapy. We were able to confirm that Portugal has one of the world's highest incidences and prevalences of dialysis. We also demonstrate, for the first time, a striking regional difference in the incidence of dialysis and an excellent early and long-term survival of patients on dialysis. These results compare well with other European countries in terms of the dialysis efficiency.

Abstract Purpose: Phenotypic heterogeneity with variable severity has been reported in female carriers of retinitis pigmentosa GTPase regulator (RPGR) mutations, including a male-type phenotype. A phenomenon not fully understood is peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickening in male patients with RPGR-associated X-linked retinitis pigmentosa, especially in the temporal sector. We aim to describe the genetic spectrum, retinal phenotypes, and pRNFL thickness in a cohort of Caucasian RPGR-mutation heterozygotes.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at an inherited retinal degeneration (IRD) reference center in Portugal. Female patients heterozygous for clinically significant RPGR variants were identified using the IRD-PT registry. A complete ophthalmologic examination was performed, complemented by macular and peripapillary spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), ultra-widefield color fundus photography (UW-CFP), and ultra-widefield fundus autofluorescence (UW-FAF). The retinal phenotypes were graded according to previously described classifications. The pRNFL thickness across the superior, inferior, nasal, and temporal quadrants was compared to the Spectralis® RNFL age-adjusted reference database.
Results: Forty-eight eyes from 24 females (10 families) were included in the study. Genetic analysis yielded 8 distinct clinically significant frameshift variants in RPGR gene, 3 of which herein reported for the first time. No association was found between mutation location and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) or retinal phenotype. Age was associated with worse BCVA and more advanced phenotypes on SD-OCT, UW-CFP, and UW-FAF. Seven women (29.17%) presented a male-type phenotype on UW-FAF in at least one eye. An association was found between UW-FAF and pRNFL thickness in the temporal sector (p = 0.003), with the most advanced fundus autofluorescence phenotypes showing increased pRNFL thickness in this sector.
Conclusion: This study expands the genetic landscape of RPGR-associated disease by reporting 3 novel clinically significant variants. We have shown that clinically severe phenotypes are not uncommon among female carriers. Furthermore, we provide novel insights into pRNFL changes observed in RPGR heterozygotes that mimic what has been reported in male patients.

Abstract The goal of the present study is to assess the impact of attitudinal and sociodemographic variables and resources restriction (time, effort and income) on convenience food usage, mediated by customer convenience orientation. The study was conducted in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. 1391 participants completed an online questionnaire designed to evaluate convenience food usage, attitudinal and sociodemographic variables. Data were analyzed through structural equation modeling by blockwise comparison technique. The results showed that convenience food usage was directly affected by convenience orientation towards the meal planning, kitchen setup and cleaning up stages, and was driven by time and budget perception, both directly and indirectly (as mediated by convenience orientation). Health consciousness and cooking enjoyment showed a negative impact on the usage of these products. The convenience food market in Brazil has a large growth potential, especially if new products take into consideration palatability and nutritional quality.
