Abstract Flexible and stretchable electronics are receiving tremendous attention as future electronics due to their flexibility and light weight, especially as applications in wearable electronics. Flexible electronics are usually fabricated on heat sensitive flexible substrates such as plastic, fabric or even paper, while stretchable electronics are usually fabricated from an elastomeric substrate to survive large deformation in their practical application. Therefore, successful fabrication of flexible electronics needs low temperature processable novel materials and a particular processing development because traditional materials and processes are not compatible with flexible/stretchable electronics. Huge technical challenges and opportunities surround these dramatic changes from the perspective of new material design and processing, new fabrication techniques, large deformation mechanics, new application development and so on. Here, we invited talented researchers to join us in this new vital field that holds the potential to reshape our future life, by contributing their words of wisdom from their particular perspective

Abstract Laser-based additive manufacturing processes, particularly direct energy deposition (DED), have gained prominence for fabricating complex, functionally graded, or customized parts. DED employs a high-powered heat source to melt metallic powder or wire, enabling precise control of grain structures and the production of high-strength objects. However, common defects, such as a lack of fusion and pores between layers or beads, can compromise the mechanical properties of the printed components. This study focuses on investigating the recurrent causes of pore defects in the powder-fed DED process, with a specific emphasis on the influence of oxidized metal powders. This research explores the impact of intentionally oxidizing metal powders of hot work tool steel H13 by exposing them to regulated humidity and temperature conditions. Scanning electron microscopy images and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy results demonstrate the clumping of powders and the deposition of iron oxides in the oxidized powders at elevated temperatures (70 °C for 72 h). Multi-layered depositions of the oxidized H13 powders on STD61 substrate do not show significant differences in cross sections among specimens, suggesting that oxidation does not visibly form large pores. However, fine pores, detected through CT scanning, are observed in depositions of oxidized powders at higher temperatures. These fine pores, typically less than 250 µm in diameter, are irregularly distributed throughout the deposition, indicating a potential degradation in mechanical properties. The findings highlight the need for careful consideration of oxidation effects in optimizing process parameters for enhanced additive manufacturing quality.

Abstract Dyslipidemia is a significant risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), and statins are the primary therapeutic options for reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. However, it can be challenging to achieve optimal LDL-C goals with statin monotherapy. Ezetimibe, a cholesterol absorption inhibitor, offers a potential non-statin therapy to optimize LDL-C management. Key clinical trials, such as IMPROVE-IT and RACING, have demonstrated that the addition of ezetimibe to statin therapy leads to further decreases in LDL-C or significant decreases in major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), particularly in patients with high ASCVD risk. Subsequent meta-analyses and clinical trials have further supported the beneficial effect of ezetimibe, suggesting additive decreases in LDL-C and MACEs, as well as pleiotropic effects. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the clinical implications of ezetimibe for managing dyslipidemia; it also evaluates the available evidence that supports the role of ezetimibe as an adjunct non-statin therapy for long-term use. However, the long-term pleiotropic effects of ezetimibe remain controversial because of limited clinical data. Therefore, additional research is needed to clarify its potential benefits beyond LDL-C reduction. Nonetheless, an understanding of the role of ezetimibe in dyslipidemia management will help clinicians to develop effective treatment strategies.

Abstract We propose a switchable privacy display with liquid crystals for co-driver displays (CDDs) in vehicles. The display minimizes driver distraction while allowing the co-driver to enjoy infotainment content. By combining electrically controllable birefringence (ECB) and hybrid-aligned nematic (HAN) cells, we control the viewing angle of the display. Our device achieves an operating angle of 30°, effectively blocking the driver's view while providing a wide viewing angle for the co-driver. It maintains excellent transmittance properties in privacy and public modes, with symmetric luminance characteristics. The versatility of the proposed display extends to various technologies like LCDs, OLEDs, and micro-LEDs. This switchable privacy display has the potential to enhance driver safety and infotainment experiences in vehicles.
