    Abstract Maxillofacial trauma is still very common in France with possible involvement of all face bones. Outpatient surgery is an axis strongly put forward by the public authorities. The aim of this study is to establish a current state in the outpatient management of facial fractures in France in 2019 before COVID infection. A closed and semi-open-ended questionnaire was sent to French hospitals treating facial fractures in order to evaluate current and possible future practices in terms of outpatient and perioperative management. Data extracted from the Program for giving Medical significance to Information Systems (PMSI) thanks to the Agency for Information on Hospital Care (ATIH) were also studied to obtain proportions of outpatient care by department. About the questionnaire 43 replies were received. Nasal fractures were the only type of fracture having a minimum average length of stay below 24hours (12.00±16.65) as well as an actual average length of stay (14.22±24.24). Concerning data extracted from the PMSI, 14510 stays were found. Currently only nasal fractures and zygomatic arch fractures requiring simple reduction without osteosynthesis are performed on an outpatient basis. Mandibular fractures could be performed as an outpatient procedure. Access to the operating room and organizational problems specific to each center are factors that limit the development of outpatient management of these facial fractures. Some incompressible parameters such as the monitoring required following the management of these fractures as well as the patients' comorbidities must be taken into account.

    Abstract Introduction: High-intensity conflict is back after decades of asymmetric warfare. With the increase in the incidence of head, face, and neck (HFN) injuries, the French Medical Military Service has decided to deploy HFN surgeons in the new French Role 2: the Damage Control, Resuscitation, and Surgical Team (DCRST). This study aims to provide an overview of HFN French surgeons from their initial training, including the surgical skills required, to their deployment on the DCRST.
    Materials and methods: The DCRST is a tactical mobile medico-surgical structure with several configurations depending on the battlefield, mission, and flux of casualties. It represents the new French paradigm for the management of combat casualties, including HFN injuries.
    Results: The HFN's military surgeon training starts during residency with rotation in the different subspecialties. The HFN surgeon follows a training course called "The French Course for Deployment Surgery" that provides sufficient background to manage polytrauma, including HFN facilities on modern warfare. We have reviewed the main surgical procedures required for an HFN military surgeon.
    Conclusion: The systematic deployment of HFN surgeons in Role 2 is a specificity of the French army as well as the HFN surgeon's training.Currently, the feedback from an asymmetric conflict is encouraging. However, it will have to innovate to adapt to modern warfare.

    Abstract Additive manufacturing has been extensively used during the COVID-19 pandemic to design and produce protection equipment. During clinical examinations using slit lamps, ophthalmologists are at risk of being contaminated by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and the device itself is exposed to viral contamination. Several solutions have already been proposed for fixing transparent shields on the physician side. Here we propose a 3D-printed device fixed on the chin rest on the patient side, aiming at limiting viral spread both on the lamp itself and towards the physician.

    Abstract Background: There is no universal management protocol concerning invasive malignant tumors of the scalp with bone and dura mater invasion. The aims of this study were to report and discuss our experience in the management of these forms of tumors.
    Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all consecutive patients of microsurgical scalp reconstruction performed after resection of invasive cutaneous malignancies of the scalp, calvarium, and dura mater from 2017 to 2019, at Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital (Paris, France).
    Results: Five patients met inclusion criteria. There were three squamous cell carcinomas and two sarcomas. Mean age at surgery was 63.6 years. The sex ratio male/female was 4. Two received radiation prior to resection and two patients had a history of prior scalp tumor surgery. All the patients underwent craniectomy and the mean cranial defect size was 41 cm
    Conclusions: Wide resection with craniectomy and reconstruction with microvascular free tissue transfer provides safe and reliable treatment of recalcitrant invasive scalp skin cancers. The surgical management of these complex patients is a challenge that must be conducted by trained, experienced, and multidisciplinary teams.
