Abstract Sodium glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have been of substantial interest to clinicians, initially in connection to diabetes management. Beyond its expected antihyperglycemic effects, this drug class is associated with properties such as promoting diuresis, improving cardiac remodeling, and decreasing albuminuria. Considering these beneficial outcomes, the potential roles for SGLT2 inhibitors have evolved to include other therapeutic areas. This review uses a case-based approach to showcase the expanded indications of SGLT2 inhibitors in the setting of heart failure and chronic kidney disease for patients without diabetes.

Abstract Given the pivotal role of student satisfaction in the higher education sector, myriad factors contributing to higher education satisfaction have been examined in the literature. Within this literature, one lesser-researched factor has been that of the quality and types of interpersonal interactions in which students engage. As existing literature has yet to fully explore the contributions made by different forms of interaction to student satisfaction in higher education, this study aimed to provide a more fine-grained analysis of how different forms of interaction between students, their peers and their instructors relate to different aspects of student satisfaction. A total of 280 undergraduate students from one of the largest higher education institutions in Singapore participated in the study. Results provided an in-depth analysis of eight aspects of student satisfaction (i.e. satisfaction with the program, teaching of lecturers, institution, campus facilities, student support provided, own learning, overall university experience and life as a university student in general) and suggested that the different aspects of student satisfaction were associated with three different forms of interaction: student-student formal, student-student informal and student-instructor.

Abstract Romiplostim is indicated for immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), though is often used off-label for other indications such as chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT) and thrombocytopenia post hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Although romiplostim is FDA approved at a starting dose of 1 mcg/kg, it is often initiated at 2-4 mcg/kg depending on the severity of thrombocytopenia in clinical practice. Given the limited data, but interest in higher doses of romiplostim for indications other than ITP, we aimed to assess our inpatient romiplostim utilization at NYU Langone Health. This was a single-center, retrospective review of 84 adult patients from January 2019 to July 2021. The top three indications were ITP (51, 60.7%), CIT (13, 15.5%), and HSCT (10, 11.9%). The median initial romiplostim dose was 3.8 mcg/kg (range, 0.9-10.8). 51% of patients achieved a platelet count of ≥50 × 10

Abstract Background: Obesity is a major and growing public health concern. The associated cost for obesity and its related comorbidities is approximately 30% of US health care expenditures annually. As additional pharmacotherapeutic options join the market to combat obesity, it is important to understand the financial impact it may have on overall health care costs. This article explores the efficacy and pharmacoeconomics of incretin mimetics, semaglutide and tirzepatide, in the setting of obesity.
Area of uncertainty: The cost of incretin mimetics (semaglutide and tirzepatide) and its overall impact on obesity management within the health care arena is being explored. The cost comparison of these medications is to be determined; however, it may represent an added cost to the total US health care expenditures.
Data sources: A PubMed and Google Scholar search was conducted using various search terms (eg, semaglutide, tirzepatide, pharmacoeconomics, and obesity).
Therapeutic advances: Based on the data reviewed, both semaglutide and tirzepatide are effective medication options for obesity management. Obesity-related management expenditures exceed $173 billion for the US health care system annually. The cost needed to treat for 1% of weight loss with semaglutide and tirzepatide was reported as $1845 and $985, respectively. More than 40% of adults (60 years or older) experience obesity. If 1%, 5%, or 10% of this population is treated with semaglutide, the annual Medicare costs will translate to excess of $2.6 billion, $13.3 billion, and $26.8 billion, respectively. Tirzepatide is not yet approved in the United States for obesity and its financial impact remains to be seen.
Conclusions: Obesity is associated with burdensome health complications and costs. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are effective drug options for the management of obesity. The cost of these medications will no doubt present a challenge to the total health care expenditures, although the cost-benefit ratio may ultimately be favorable.

Abstract Background: With no approved long-term prophylaxis (LTP) for the prevention of hereditary angioedema (HAE) attacks in Hong Kong, patients rely on compassionate use programs and drug trials. Moreover, studies regarding the use and efficacy of LTP in Asia are lacking.
Objectives: Our aim was to assess 2 LTP medications for HAE in Hong Kong: lanadelumab and garadacimab.
Methods: A prospective study was performed. Adult patients with a diagnosis of type I or type II HAE with 1 or more expert-confirmed attacks per month were consecutively recruited. The patients had been receiving treatment for at least 6 months. Clinical data were obtained, and questionnaires were administered before treatment periodically for at least 6 months following initiation of LTP.
Results: Almost one-third of the patients with HAE experienced frequent attacks and began receiving LTP (8 of the 11 received garadacimab and 3 of the 11 received lanadelumab). At baseline, the time-normalized number of HAE attacks was 2.5 plus or minus 1.3 per month. At month 6, there was an overall reduction of time-normalized number of attacks per month of -2.4 attacks per month (95% CI = -3.3 to -1.5. [
Conclusion: The patients receiving LTP with garadacimab and lanadelumab experienced a significant reduction in number of HAE attacks and improvement in quality of life, and they were satisfied with treatment.
