    Abstract Spinal intradural extramedullary teratomas are rare tumors arising from more than one germ cell layers and are more common in children than in older age groups. Teratomas are more commonly seen in intracranial compartment and are extremely rare in the spine. They are difficult to diagnose pre-operatively and the definitive diagnosis is usually done by histopathologic evaluation. Intraspinal teratomas should be considered in the differential diagnosis of any intradural extramedullary tumor of the spine. We reviewed the literature and reported a rare case of intradural extramedullary teratoma in an adolescent located in dorsolumbar spine without any history of prior spinal procedure.

    Abstract Background and aims: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) enzyme has been linked to vascular calcification. Unexplained elevations in serum ALP levels have been reported in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We assessed bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BAP) levels in patients with T2DM who had unexplained ALP elevations and studied the association between BAP and other markers of vascular calcification.
    Methods: Patients with T2DM who had high serum ALP in the absence of known causes of ALP elevation were studied. The control group was T2DM patients with normal ALP. We measured the serum levels of BAP along with the leptin, fetuin-A, and vitamin K2 levels. Ankle-brachial index (ABI) was also measured in both groups.
    Results: Serum BAP levels were significantly higher in the group with high ALP when compared with the normal ALP group. A significant positive correlation was present between BAP and serum fetuin-A as well as between BAP and Vit K2 levels. There was no correlation between BAP and serum leptin. ABI was comparable between the two groups.
    Conclusions: Patients with T2DM may have unexplained elevation in ALP due to an increase in BAP. Elevation in BAP may be associated with other markers of vascular calcification suggesting an increased risk of vascular calcification.

    Abstract Acute viral hepatitis E (HEV) is the most common form of acute viral hepatitis in India. It is associated with self-limiting disease in most cases. However, the chronic form of HEV is also being increasingly recognized. Other viral infections like the hepatitis A virus (HAV) have been implicated in inciting autoimmune hepatitis. HEV infection has been associated with the formation of circulating liver-directed autoantibodies, however autoimmune liver disease following acute HEV infection has been rarely reported. Here we present a case of a 72-year-old diabetic lady who presented to us with an asymptomatic rise of liver enzymes. Investigations suggested metabolic dysfunction associated with steatotic liver disease. After three months of the diagnosis, she developed acute-on-chronic liver failure and her anti-HEV came out positive. She was managed accordingly. Afterwards patient had persistent high liver enzymes, so she underwent a liver biopsy. Her liver biopsy was compatible with autoimmune hepatitis.

    Abstract There is a robust positive relationship between reading skills and the time to name aloud an array of letters, digits, objects, or colors as quickly as possible. A convincing and complete explanation for the direction and locus of this association remains, however, elusive. In this study, we investigated rapid automatized naming (RAN) of everyday objects and basic color patches in neurotypical illiterate and literate adults. Literacy acquisition and education enhanced RAN performance for both conceptual categories but this advantage was much larger for (abstract) colors than everyday objects. This result suggests that (a) literacy/education may be causal for serial rapid naming ability of non-alphanumeric items and (b) differences in the lexical quality of conceptual representations can underlie the reading-related differential RAN performance.     Abstract Increasing health concerns regarding the use of plasticware have led to the development of ecofriendly biodegradable packaging film from natural polymer and food additives. In the present study, basil essential oil (BEO) loaded halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) composite films were synthesized using a solution casting method. The effects of BEO and nanotube concentration on the mechanical, physical, structural, barrier, and antioxidant properties of films were evaluated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) demonstrated well-dispersed HNTs and BEO in tailored composite films. The addition of BEO in Chitosan (Ch) film caused darkening of the film color; furthermore, the incorporation of HNTs in varied concentrations increased opaqueness in Ch/BEO film. The Ch/BEO film, upon adding HNTs 5-30 wt%, exhibited a corresponding increase in the film thickness (0.108-0.135 mm) when compared with the Ch/BEO film alone (0.081 mm). The BEO-loaded HNTs composite films displayed reduced moisture content and characteristic barrier and UV properties. The Ch/BEO film with 15 wt% HNTs was found to have enhanced antioxidant activity. The Ch/BEO/HNTs composite also managed to prevent broccoli florets from losing weight and firmness during storage. The enhanced barrier and antioxidant qualities of the nanocomposite film suggest its potential application in the food processing and packaging sector. This is the first ever report on the fabrication of nanocomposite film using BEO and HNTs for food packaging. The low production cost and ecofriendly approach make the film acceptable for further research and commercialization thereafter.

    Abstract Ophthalmic artery (OA) is known for anomalous origin and aberrant course probably attributable to its complex embryology. Anomalous origin of OA can be associated with intracranial aneurysm. Anomalous origins have been reported from middle meningeal artery (MMA), cavernous carotid, posterior communicating, anterior cerebral and basilar artery. Even though bilateral anomalous origin of OA from MMA is a rare finding, to the author's best knowledge, association of above condition with bilateral internal carotid artery aneurysms has not been described in the literature. We present a case of such anomalous bilateral OA originating from MMA and associated with bilateral internal carotid artery aneurysms. We have also reviewed the pertinent literature regarding anomalous OA origin.
