Abstract Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic endocrine disease characterized by impaired glucose metabolism. Type 2 DM (T2DM) is an age-related disease that usually affects middle and older-aged people who suffer from increased blood glucose activities. Several complications are associated with uncontrolled diabetes that include abnormal lipid levels/dyslipidemia. This may predispose T2DM patients to life-threatening cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the activities of lipids among T2DM patients. Methodology A case-control study involving 300 participants was conducted in the outpatient department of medicine attached to Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Vikarabad, Telangana, India. The study included 150 T2DM patients and the same number of age-matched controls. In this study, 5 mL of fasting blood sugar (FBS) was collected from each participant for the estimation of lipids (total cholesterol (TC), triacylglyceride (TAG), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), and very low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (VLDL-C)) and glucose. Results The FBS levels among T2DM patients (211.6 ± 60.97 mg/dL) and non-diabetic individuals (87.34 ± 13.06 mg/dL) were significantly (p < 0001) different. Analysis of lipid chemistry that included TC (174.8 ± 38.28 mg/dL vs. 157.22 ± 30.34 mg/dL), TAG (173.14 ± 83.48 mg/dL vs. 133.94 ± 39.69 mg/dL), HDL-C (37.28 ± 7.84 mg/dL vs. 43.4 ± 10.82 mg/dL), LDL-C (113.44 ± 28.79 mg/dL vs. 96.72 ± 21.53 mg/dL), and VLDL-C (34.58 ± 19.02 mg/dL vs. 26.7 ± 8.61 mg/dL) revealed significant variations among T2DM and non-diabetic individuals. There was a 14.10% decrease in the activities of HDL-C among T2DM patients along with an increase in the activities of TC (11.18%), TAG (29.27%), LDL-C (17.29%), and VLDL-C (30%). Conclusions T2DM patients have demonstrated abnormal lipid activities/dyslipidemia compared to non-diabetic patients. Patients with dyslipidemia may be predisposed to cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, regular monitoring of such patients for dyslipidemia is extremely vital to minimize the long-term complications associated with T2DM.

Abstract Sutures are a crucial component of surgical procedures, serving to close and stabilize wound margins to promote healing. However, microbial contamination of sutures can increase the risk of surgical site infections (SSI) due to colonization by pathogens. This study aimed to tackle SSI by synthesizing positively charged silver nanoparticles (P-AgNPs) and using them to produce antimicrobial sutures. The P-AgNPs were reduced and stabilized using polyethylenimine (PEI), a cationic branched polymer. The physiochemical characteristics of P-AgNPs were confirmed from the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak at 419 nm, spherical morphology with a particle size range of 8-10 nm, PEI functional groups on NPs, a hydrodynamic diameter of 12.3 ± 2.4 nm, and a zeta potential of 31.3 ± 6 mV. Subsequently, the surfaces of silk sutures were impregnated with P-AgNPs at different time intervals (24, 48, and 96 h) using an ex situ method. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and tensile strength studies were conducted to determine the coating and durability of the NP-coated sutures. The NPs were quantified on sutures using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrophotometry (ICP-OES), which was in the range of 1-5 μg. Primarily, antimicrobial activity was studied using three microorganisms (

Abstract Purpose: The purpose of the study was to find the effectiveness of Extended Infection Control Measures (EICM) in reducing the rate of methicillin-resistant
Methods: The study adopted a quasi-experimental design and was conducted in the orthopaedic units of a tertiary care hospital. This study recruited 168 orthopaedic patients and 154 healthcare professionals (HCPs). EICM included hand hygiene, decolonizing the patients and HCPS, staff education, feedback of surveillance data, treatment of high-risk and MRSA-infected patients, having separate equipment for MRSA-infected patients, and appropriate cleaning of patient's unit.
Results: The EICM effectively reduced MRSA infection from 21.2 to 6% (
Conclusion: EICM is a promising intervention to combat MRSA infection among orthopaedic wards. Hence, it can be executed in orthopaedic wards, thereby improving the treatment quality and reducing the infection-related consequences.

Abstract The advancement of crystalline growth and characterization tools allows us to investigate novel nonlinear optical substances suitable for photonic applications. Bis-(4-aminopyridine)-zinc(II) acetate (B4AZA), a metal-organic crystal was produced in this study using the slow evaporation procedure at room temperature. Analytical studies such as X-ray crystallography, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), UV-visible (UV-Vis), fluorescence, second harmonic generation (SHG), and dielectric tests were used to characterize the as-grown B4AZA crystals. According to the solubility data, the sample has a positive temperature coefficient of solubility. The crystallographic findings show that the B4AZA crystallized in a monoclinic structure with the P2
