Title translation Seroprevalence of human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus among blood donors in Segou, Mali.
Abstract The purpose of this retrospective study, which examined data collected from January 2007 through September 2010, was to evaluate the seroprevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and hepatitis C virus (HCV) among 2946 new blood donors at the Nianankoro Fomba Hospital (NFH). The overall seroprevalence of HIV was 0.88%, of HBV 5.3%, and of HCV 0.55%. Donors infected with HIV and HBV were younger than healthy donors, while those infected with HCV were older. These findings at the NFH show that HIV, HBV, and HCV remain major public health problems in Mali.

Abstract Coccygodynia is pain located in coccyx. Factors that increase are stay position and stand up. Trauma seems to be his first cause, it can be falled in a sitting position, post-delivery or repeated micro-trauma. Therapeutic management depends on the mechanism involved and relies on manual treatments, infiltrations, even surgery, with good results and a success rate of about 90%. We report the case of a 23-year-old patient with disabling coccygeal pain, progressively worsening, following a fall of a floor 4 meters high, the patient sitting with reception on the buttocks. The pains have a repercussion on the sphincter function with the installation of a rather severe constipation. The examination finds an exquisite pain with regard to the sacrum on palpation without any sign of disco-radicular conflict and the skin facing is normal. The patient has tried everything in terms of conservative treatment including manipulations. The sacro-coccygeal CT shows in sagittal section (A) a dislocation of the entire coccyx compared to the 5th sacred piece. The incision arcuate (B) was preferred over the median vertical incision in the intergluteal fold closer to the anus with a non-nefiable infectious risk, ranging from 6.15 to 16.6% depending on the data from the terature. Excision of the coccyx (C) was performed under general anesthesia, the patient installed in ventral decubitus. The clinical evolution was significantly favorable.

Abstract Introduction: A public health emergency of international concern, COVID-19 is an acute respiratory disease responsible in eight months of approximately 843,158 deaths worldwide, including 29,425 deaths in Africa. The objective was to describe the COVID-19 cases in the health district of Commune III of Bamako.
Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study of COVID-19 surveillance data from March 26 to August 27, 2020. Our variables were extracted from the surveillance database and analyzed on Epi-Info 7.2. Frequencies, rates and proportions were calculated.
Results: A positivity rate of 14.86% identified 126 confirmed cases out of an 848 notified suspect. The median age of confirmed cases was 34 years with a minimum of 8 months and a maximum of 93 years. The sex ratio was 2.7 males to females. Civil servants accounted for 32.54% of the positive cases. All the health subdistricts have recorded positive cases. The lethality was 7.94% affecting those over 65 years old. Among asymptomatic people 10.75% were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Conclusion: Our study suggests that young males were more likely to be infected with COVID-19. We recommend systematic screening of all contacts and involvement of the community in surveillance.

Abstract Introduction: Contraceptive prevalence is low in Mali. The information provided by the media men can help to increase or decrease the use of contraceptive methods.
Objective: To study the knowledge, attitudes and practices of Bamako media Men on family planning.
Material and methods: We carried out a descriptive cross-sectional study with prospective data collection from June 1 to August 30, 2019. It concerned journalists and presenters of 15 radio and 6 televisions in Bamako.
Results: During the 3 months, 615 media Men agreed to participate in this study. These are men and women from 36 to 45 years old in 37.2% of cases, married in 81.3% of cases. The radio with 85.5% was their main source of information on family planning. They all knew at least one contraceptive method. The best-known methods were pills (94.3%), injectables (57%) and implants (49.1%). They were in favor of the practice of family planning in 77.2% of cases, 76.9% had already used a method and 56.7% had already hosted a program on family planning.
Conclusion: Media men are essential in the transmission of information. The quality of the information provided by these Media men can be influenced by their personal perceptions and attitudes. Their better involvement in the promotion of family planning can help to increase contraceptive prevalence.

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to precise the role of thoracic CT angiography in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism in our practice.
Patients and methods: We conduct a prospective eight (8) month study in the radiology department of the Teaching Hospital of Point "G" Seventy seven patients suspected of pulmonary embolism were included. A thoracic CT angiography was performed in emergency after chest X ray for each patient. Pulmonary embolisms were classified according to the Qanadli index.
Results: The average age of our patients was 52 years old (23 - 85 years). The age group 55-64 was predominant. The clinical probability was low, medium and high respectively in 8,9%, 28,9% and 62,33%. Chest X ray was suspect of embolism in 92,2% (71/77%), thoracic CT angiography was positive in 58,44% (45/77). Embolism was located in a lobar pulmonary artery in 57,78% and the right side was the most concerned. Among the cardiopulmonary consequences, dilatation of the trunk of the pulmonary artery predominated in 42,22% of cases. According to Qanadli index, the severity of pulmonary embolism was moderate (53;33%), severe (35,56%), and massive (11,11%).
Conclusion: CT angiography is in our practice, the best choice in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. It allows to confirm the diagnosis, and to precise the topography of pulmonary embolism. In addition, this examination makes it possible the severity specification of the affection.

Abstract Introduction: Paediatric granulomatous uveitis (PGU) is rare. In addition, lack of awareness often leads to delayed diagnosis and poor visual outcome. Identifying the underlying cause and deciding how best to treat each patient is challenging.
Objectives: To evaluate the demographics, aetiologies, complications, treatments, and visual prognosis of paediatric non-infectious granulomatous uveitis.
Methods: Retrospective chart review of non-infectious PGU occurring in children before the age of 16 years recruited from the Paediatric Rheumatology Unit, Bicêtre Hospital, France, from 2001 to 2023.
Results: We included 50 patients with 90 affected eyes: 29 with idiopathic uveitis, 15 with sarcoidosis, 5 with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and one with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. Median age at diagnosis was 9.8 years (range 7.2-12.5). The sex-ratio M/F was 0.52. The most common features of PGU were: panuveitis (56%), bilateral (84%), and chronic (84%). Sarcoidosis was the most frequent diagnosis after idiopathic disease, particularly in the presence of lymphopenia and hypergammaglobulinemia. Uveomeningitis was present in 12% of cases. Upon diagnosis, ocular complications were present in 68 of 90 eyes (76%) particularly in cases of panuveitis. The most commonly used treatments were systemic corticosteroids (72%) and methotrexate (80%). Twenty-three percent of eyes were in remission at last follow-up, 68% were inactive and 4% remained active. The median duration of follow-up was 5.8 years.
Conclusion: We report the largest cohort of PGU. PGU were mostly idiopathic and had a high rate of complications. Sarcoid and idiopathic panuveitis are serious illnesses in which disease-modifying therapy should be initiated at diagnosis to improve management.

Abstract Background: Previous studies have revealed high malaria transmission in Bouaké, Côte d'Ivoire. The sociopolitical crisis in the country and the resulting environmental changes have raised the need to update existing knowledge on mosquito vector species and malaria transmission.
Methods: Adult mosquitoes were caught using the human landing catch (HLC) sampling method in Bouaké. They were collected in six districts representative of the diversity in urban landscapes. Sampling points were selected along the water network crossing the city and monitored from 2020 to 2021 to detect the presence of anopheline larvae. PCR techniques were used to ascertain the species of the Anopheles gambiae complex, Plasmodium falciparum sporozoite infection in a subset of Anopheles vectors, and insecticide resistance mechanisms in Anopheles arabiensis only.
Results: A total of 4599 Anopheles mosquitoes were collected and then identified. Anopheles gambiae sensu lato (s.l.) made up the majority of the whole collection (99%) while Anopheles funestus (0.7%), Anopheles ziemanni (0.2%), Anopheles pharoensis (0.2%) represented the remaining proportion of collection. Among the Anopheles gambiae complex, three species were identified namely An. gambiae sensu stricto (45.9%), Anopheles coluzzii (52.2%), and Anopheles arabiensis (1.9%). The first two species had already been collected in Bouaké, however this is the first time that An. arabiensis is reported in Côte d'Ivoire. Anopheles arabiensis was also collected during the larval surveys in a similar proportion (1.1%) in the same areas as the adults.
Conclusions: This study detected the presence of An. arabiensis for the first time in Côte d'Ivoire. This species was found quite far from its usual geographic area and its expansion could be linked to the urbanization process. Although no An. arabiensis was found to be infected by Plasmodium sp., its role in malaria transmission in Bouaké has to be explored, particularly since its exophagic behaviour raises the issue of control measures and the use of insecticide-impregnated nets. The spread of this species in Côte d'Ivoire should be assessed through further research in additional towns in the country.

Abstract Objectives: Although oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV is being rolled out in West Africa, data on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in PrEP users are scarce. We assessed the prevalence, incidence and determinants of bacterial STIs in men who have sex with men (MSM) taking PrEP in Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Mali and Togo.
Methods: A prospective cohort study among MSM initiating PrEP as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package was conducted between 2017 and 2021 in community-based clinics in the four study countries. Molecular screening for
Results: A total of 598 participants with a median age of 24.7 years were included. Prevalence of CT and/or NG was 24.4% (95% CI 21.0 to 28.1), 22.4% (95% CI 18.4 to 26.8) and 29.0% (95% CI 24.2 to 34.1) at months 0, 6 and 12, respectively. The prevalence of syphilis ranged from 0.2% (95% CI 0.0 to 0.9) at month 0 to 0.8% (95% CI 0.2 to 2.4) at month 12. Ninety incident CT and/or NG infections occurred during a total follow-up time of 280.6 person-years (incidence rate 32.1 per 100 person-years, 95% CI 25.8 to 39.4). Three incident syphilis infections were detected during a total follow-up time of 459.7 person-years (incidence rate 0.7 per 100 person-years, 95% CI 0.1 to 1.9). CT and/or NG incidence was associated with condomless insertive anal sex (adjusted incidence rate ratio 1.96, 95% CI 1.04 to 3.71, p=0.038).
Conclusions: CT and NG were frequent but syphilis was very infrequent in MSM using HIV PrEP in West Africa. HIV programme managers should integrate STI services into PrEP programmes.

Abstract Background: In patients with severe neutropenia, infections can rapidly become serious and life-threatening. It is essential to understand whether pregnancy induces changes in neutrophil levels thereby posing an increased threat to the health of gravidae.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted in San Health District (Mali) and involved pregnant women infected or not by malaria parasites and non-pregnant healthy volunteers. Subjects were categorized as having neutropenia, normal neutrophil levels, and neutrophilia regarding their neutrophil levels. A logistic regression analysis was performed to determine factors associated with neutrophil level variation in pregnant women.
Results: Whether or not the pregnant women were infected with malaria, 98 of the 202 cases (48.5%) showed neutrophilia. Surprisingly, 67 of the 71 cases of neutropenia (94.4%) observed in this study concerned healthy people who were not pregnant. The mean percentage of neutrophil levels was significantly (p < 0.001) lower (49.9%) in the first trimester compared to the second trimester of pregnancy (62.0%). A logistic regression model showed that compared to early pregnancy, the second (OR = 12.9, 95% CI 2.2-248.1, p = 0.018) and the third trimesters (OR = 13.7, 95% CI 2.3-257.5, p = 0.016) were strongly associated with the increase of neutrophil levels.
Conclusions: Pregnancy can induce the production of mature neutrophils that are continually released into circulation. Neutrophil levels were lower during the first trimester of the pregnancy compared to the second and third trimesters, but not affected by the presence or absence of malaria infection.
