    Abstract A study was carried out to determine systematically the key aroma-active compounds of Langyatai Baijiu with Jian flavour (LBJF) using sensory omics analysis (SOA). A total of 56 odorants were screened out using gas chromatography-olfactometry-mass spectrometry (GC-O-MS)/Osme analysis. Among them, 15 aroma-active components were first identified. After quantitation, 30 odorants had odour activity values (OAVs) > 1.0 in LBJF. Recombinant and omission experiments proved that the esters, alcohols, acids, especially ethyl hexanoate, γ-nonalactone, and dimethyl trisulfide, were critical to the flavour of LBJF. The basic and commercial liquors had obvious differences in the skeleton compositions of esters and acids. This study uncovers the characteristics of Jian flavour Baijiu (JFB) and provides a scientific basis for the quality control of JFB, which is helpful for the development of Chinese Baijiu flavour styles.

    Abstract To provide the ancient literary evidence support for the clinical application and development of classical prescription based on systematical collection and analysis of the ancient Chinese medical literature containing Jinshui Liujun Jian, including its origin and development. Bibliometric analysis was used and information of Jinshui Liujun Jian in ancient Chinese medical literature was then collected for statistical analysis of formula compositions, main indications, dosage, preparation methods, etc. A total of 151 valid items of data were obtained from 48 ancient Chinese medicine books. Jinshui Liujun Jian was first recorded in Jingyue Quanshu written by ZHANG Jiebin. This prescription consisted of Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Pinelliae Rhizome, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, Poria and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizome Praeparata cum Melle, and it was mainly used to treat the deficiency of lung and kidney, edema and excess production of phlegm, or Yin deficiency in the old, insufficient blood-qi, wind-cold evil, cough and disgusting, asthma and excessive phlegm. Doctors in later dynasties mostly followed the prescription compositions, dosages and indications in Jingyue Quanshu, and extended the clinical application of this prescription.

    Abstract Jian-pi-yang-zheng Decoction (JPYZ) is a traditional Chinese medicine that is used for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer, and it shows good efficacy in patients. A previous study indicated that JPYZ inhibited the progression of gastric cancer via the regulation of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), but the underlying molecular target of JPYZ regulation of TAMs has not been determined. The present study used modified-JPYZ (mJPYZ) to extend our investigation of gastric cancer. Our results showed that mJPYZ inhibited gastric cancer progression in vivo and in vitro. We found that mJPYZ decreased the activity of PI3-kinase γ (PI3Kγ) in TAMs, reduced the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10 and increased the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-α and IL-1β, which ultimately promoted the conversion of TAMs from M2 to M1. Our findings also indicated that mJPYZ inhibited the growth and metastasis of gastric cancer by alleviating the unfavorable differentiation of TAMs via the PI3Kγ signaling cascades. In conclusion, the present findings indicated that mJPYZ inhibited gastric cancer cell EMT via PI3Kγ-dependent TAM reprogramming, which eventually suppressed gastric cancer growth and metastasis. Our study provides an underlying mechanism of a Chinese medicine in the treatment of gastric cancer via PI3Kγ in macrophages.

    Abstract Background: Jian Yun Qing Hua Decoction (JYQHD), a traditional Chinese medicine decoction, which has been applied in the treatment of gastric cancer (GC). We attempt to confirm the anti-gastric cancer effect of JYQHD and explore the mechanism of JYQHD.
    Methods: Acute toxicity test was used to understand the toxicity of JYQHD. We studied the expression and prognostic outcome of COL12A1 within GC tissues through the network databases. Using several web-based databases, we analyzed the major components and targets of JYQHD, as well as known therapeutic targets in gastric cancer. The Venn diagram was utilized to obtain the overlapped genes. Lentiviral vector, shRNAs and plasmids, were used to transfect GC cells.     Results: The results showed that JYQHD was non-toxic and safe. JYQHD inhibited growth and sphere formation ability through inducing the ferroptosis of GC cells, and suppressed the GC cells induced subcutaneous xenograft tumor growth. COL12A1 was highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues, indicating poor prognosis. COL12A1 specifically enhanced GC cell progression and stemness via suppressing ferroptosis. JYQHD down-regulated COL12A1 in order to suppress the stemness of GC cells via inducing ferroptosis.
    Conclusion: COL12A1 inhibited ferroptosis and enhanced stemness in GC cells. JYQHD inhibited the development of GC cells by inhibiting cancer cell stemness via the ferroptosis pathway mediated by COL12A1.

    Abstract Background: Ji Chuan Jian (JCJ), a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula, has been widely applied in treating Parkinson's disease (PD) in China, However, the interaction of bioactive compounds from JCJ with the targets involved in PD remains elusive.
    Methods: Based on the transcriptome sequencing and network pharmacology approaches, the chemical compounds of JCJ and gene targets for treating PD were identified. Then, the Protein-protein interaction (PPI) and "Compound-Disease-Target" (C-D-T) network were constructed by using of Cytoscape. Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were applied to these target proteins. Finally, AutoDock Vina was used for applying molecular docking.
    Results: In the present study, a total number of 2669 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified between PD and healthy controls using whole transcriptome RNA sequencing. Then, 260 targets of 38 bioactive compounds in JCJ were identified. Of these targets, 47 were considered PD-related targets. Based on the PPI degree, the top 10 targets were identified. In C-D-T network analysis, the most important anti-PD bioactive compounds in JCJ were determined. Molecular docking revealed that potential PD-related targets, matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP9) were more stably bound with naringenin, quercetin, baicalein, kaempferol and wogonin.
    Conclusion: Our study preliminarily investigated the bioactive compounds, key targets, and potential molecular mechanism of JCJ against PD. It also provided a promising approach for identifying the bioactive compounds in TCM as well as a scientific basis for further elucidating the mechanism of TCM formulae in treating diseases.

    Abstract Objectives: Jian-Pi-Yin decoction (JPY), a prescription derived from the traditional Chinese medicine Shen-Ling-Bai-Zhu-San, has shown good clinical efficacy in the treatment of diarrhea caused by lactose intolerance. However, the mechanism of action of JPY in the treatment of diarrhea is not fully understood.
    Design: In this study, a rat diarrhea model was induced by high lactose feeding combined with standing on a small platform to investigate the ameliorating effect of JPY on hyper lactose-induced diarrhea in rats and its possible mechanism.
    Methods: The rat model of hyper lactose diarrhea was given high, medium, and low doses of JPY and the positive control drug Smida by gavage for 1 week. At the same time, NA
    Results: JPY significantly alleviated the symptoms of fatigue, diet reduction and diarrhea in the model group. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) expression were also down-regulated after JPY treatment. JPY can significantly promote NHE3 in intestinal tissues of rats with diarrhea, and the mechanism is related to the decrease of GLP-1, inhibition of cAMP/PKA pathway activation, an increase of ubiquitin-specific protease 7 (USP7) and USP10 expression, and decrease of NHE3 ubiquitination and phosphorylation.
    Conclusion: JPY can reduce the expression of GLP-1, reduce the ubiquitination and phosphorylation of NHE3, regulate the expression of NHE3, at least partly improve ion transport in the intestinal epithelium, and improve the imbalance of electrolyte absorption, thus significantly reducing the diarrhea symptoms of rats with high lactose combined with small platform standing.
    Innovation: In this study, we explored the mechanism of intestinal GLP-1 activation of cAMP/PKA signaling pathway from multiple dimensions, and increased its expression by reducing phosphorylation and ubiquitination of NHE3, thereby treating chronic diarrhea associated with lactose intolerance.

    Abstract In this study, a linoleic and linolenic acid were incubated with petroleum ether extract, ethyl acetate extract, acetone extract (AE) and aqueous extract of Astragalus membranaceus . The phenolic content and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) were determined in the extracts of Astragalus membranaceus (EAms) above. Results showed that EAms decreased the levels of malonaldehyde, conjugated diene, and peroxide value levels in material above. Of all of EAms, AE showed the strongest T-AOC and inhibitory effect on the lipid oxidation. Next, fish feeds were incubated with graded levels of AE. The results showed that AE inhibited lipid oxidation in fish feed. The appropriate dosage for reducing lipid oxidation was 6.74 g AE kg −1 feeds. The effect of EAms on the lipid oxidation may be closely associated with their phenolic content. Then, juvenile Jian carp ( Cyprinus carpio var. Jian, 10.2 ± 0.3 g) were fed with diets containing graded levels of AE (0.0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, and 7.0 g kg −1 ) for 60 days. Current data displayed that dietary AE increased the growth performance of fish. The optimum dosage for growth promotion was 5.15 g AE kg −1 diet. This result of AE may be ascribed to its enhancing effect on the activity of digestive and absorptive enzymes and antioxidant capacity in digestive organs of fish. Our present study indicated that EAm holds promise as a natural antioxidant for fish and their feed.

    Abstract Microplastics (MPs) and tetracycline (TC) are severe emerging pollutants in the aquatic environment. But there is a lack of research to investigate the interactive effects of MPs and TC in vivo. This study used Jian carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Jian) as the model organism to explore the bioaccumulation and biochemical status when exposed to MPs and TC, alone and combined. The accumulation of TC and MPs in intestine, variation of enzyme activities in intestine, and expression of immune-related genes in muscle were evaluated. Our results found the bioaccumulation of MPs was not affected by TC, but the presence of MPs would change the content of TC within 48 h. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity showed that TC-MP combined exposure could reduce oxidative damage to Jian carps compared to MP exposure alone. The integrated biomarker response (IBR) index showed that SOD activity was sensitive to TC-MP exposure. In addition, co-exposure to MPs and TC could alleviate the overexpression of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin 10 (IL-10), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), and toll like receptor 2 (TLR-2) induced by TC in muscles. TLR-2 gene has the potential to be the candidate gene reflecting the injury of TC exposure. In conclusion, it is inferred that co-exposure may reduce the toxicity of individual exposure in the living organisms. This study provides essential information for the risk assessment of pollution with MPs and TC, individually and combined, as well as a foundation to investigate the interactive effects of MPs and antibiotics on aquatic ecosystems.

    Abstract Introduction: As a chronic, progressive, and lethal pulmonary disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is lacking effective treatment. Chronic inflammatory processes, including inflammatory cytokines, play an important role with in its pathogenesis. Jianpiyifei (JPYF) granule is a traditional Chinese herbal formula historically used to strengthen the spleen and tonify the lung. JPYF is used clinically to treat stable COPD. However, whether the purported anti-inflammatory effect of JPYF in COPD involves regulation of key inflammatory cytokines is not clear.
    Materials and methods: The mice model of pulmonary inflammation was induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and cigarette smoke condensate (CSC). The influence of JPYF on airway inflammation
    Results: The number of neutrophils and total cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of the JPYF group were markedly lower than in the model group. The levels of interleukin (IL)-1 β and IL-6 were lower; tumor necrosis factor-alpha was downregulated, and IL-10 was higher in the JPYF group than the model group. In the JPYF group, histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) activity and protein expression were restored.
    Conclusion: The anti-inflammatory activity of JPYF involves the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, enhanced IL-10 secretion, and the restoration of HDAC2 activity.

    Abstract Purpose: This study was the first to screen the active compounds of Jian Aikang Concentrated Pill (JAKCP) with network pharmacology, predict its potential targets, screen the signaling pathways, and combine with cellular experimental validation to explore the potential mechanism of JAKCP for the treatment of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
    Methods: The main compounds and targets of Chinese herbs in JAKCP were identified by TCMSP; the targets of AIDS were collected from Genecards, Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM), Disgenet, Therapeutic Target Database (TTD) and Drugbank; the network of "Chinese herbs-active compounds-targets" for JAKCP was constructed by Cytoscape, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed using STRING to generate the intersection targets, Metascape was conducted to analyze the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and the network of "main active compounds-core targets-pathways" was constructed by Cytoscape. Finally, the effect of JAKCP on the survival rate of HIV pseudovirus-infected MT-4 cells was investigated by CCK-8 assay, and the predicted targets were verified by ELISA, qPCR and Western blot.
    Results: A total of 147 active compounds of JAKCP were screened covering 351 targets and 416 AIDS disease targets were obtained, besides 140 intersection targets and 321 KEGG pathways were collected. Ultimately, quercetin, kaempferol, stigmasterol, beta-sitosterol, epigallocatechin gallate were identified as the important compounds, the core targets are HSP90AA1, IL-10, IL-6, TNF, IL-1β, TP53, and IL-1ɑ, and the biological pathways and processes mainly include T cell activation, regulation of DNA-binding transcription factor activity and apoptotic signaling pathway. Experiments on the targets of "T cell activation" demonstrated that JAKCP promotes the survival of HIV pseudovirus-infected MT-4 cells. Also, JAKCP down-regulated mRNA and protein levels of IL-1ɑ, IL-1β, and IL-6 while up-regulated mRNA and protein levels of IL-2, IL-6ST, and IL-10 in vitro.
    Conclusion: JAKCP exerted regulatory immune functions through multi-component, multi-target and multi-pathway, thereby providing novel ideas and clues for the treatment of AIDS.
