Abstract Background and objective: A cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate a clinically relevant position of the inferior alveolar nerve and canal with respect to the lateral cortex, alveolar crest, and first and second molar root apices in adult dentate patients.
Methods: The study was conducted in the patients who reported various oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for whom preoperative computed tomography (CT) scan was taken for the required surgical procedures. CTs were selected based on the selection criteria, and a total of 50 CTs were evaluated. Predictor variables were gender and side. Outcome variables were the average linear buccal measurements from the lateral cortex to the outer cortical margin of the inferior alveolar canal from below the mandibular foramen till the mental foramen, linear vertical measurements from the alveolar crest to the superior crest of the inferior alveolar canal in the third, second and first molar regions, and linear vertical distance from the superior aspect of inferior alveolar canal till the apices of second and third molars. Descriptive statistics were analysed with t test and paired t test.
Results: The study sample was composed of 27 male and 23 female patients with a mean age of 29 ± 4.6 years. The mean value of linear measurements of IAN to the right lateral cortex at the mandibular foramen was 4.96 ± 1.13, and for the left side, it was 4.79 ± 1.33. The mean values of linear measurements from the superior aspect of IAN canal to the alveolar crest at third, second and first molar regions obtained in this study were 18.5 ± 3.79, 19 + 3.83 and 19.5 + 3.48 for the right side and 17.8 + 3.86, 18.8 + 3.54 and 19.143.31 for the left side, respectively. The average linear measurements of IAN to the root apex of first molar were 10.8 3.89 for the right side and 10.868 + 3.85 for the left side; for second molars, they were 10.5 + 3.62 for the right side and 10.52 + 3.62 for the left side. Gender and side influenced the outcome with varying statistical significance.
Conclusion: The study has identified the average linear measurements of the buccal cortical bone along the path of IAN in the mandible, average height of alveolar bone above the IAN and average distance between the IAN with the first and second molar root apices. This will be useful guide while planning and performing various mandibular surgical procedures close to the IAN nerve and procedures that can disturb the IAN. The implications of these findings will influence the course of surgery.

Abstract Temperature trends over the high-altitude mountains depict an increase with elevation during recent years. These stratified warming trends observed over the Himalayan-Tibetan (HT) regions are higher than the mean warming trends observed over low-elevation regions of South and East Asia, which is attributed to several factors including snow albedo feedback, clouds and water vapor feedback. In this study, we demonstrate the effects of deposition of absorbing aerosols like black carbon and dust on snow albedo and its implications for elevation-dependent warming (EDW). Though the aerosol concentration decreases with elevation, warming due to aerosol-induced snow darkening increases with elevation. Further, surface cooling due to the direct radiative effects (DRE) of aerosols is found to decrease with elevation, which also favors higher warming at high altitudes. The effects of both the deposition of absorbing aerosols on snow albedo and the surface cooling due to the DRE of atmospheric aerosols could strengthen EDW. This study clearly shows the potential of albedo feedback due to aerosol-cryosphere interaction as one of the physical mechanisms contributing to the observed EDW over the HT region.

Abstract Ovarian stromal hyperthecosis is an uncommon nonneoplastic cause of ovarian hyperandrogenism mainly in postmenopausal women. Here, we present a case of a postmenopausal woman who presented with features of virilization like alopecia and hirsutism. During its workup, two malignancies were diagnosed at a very early stage. Microscopic focus of endometrial adenocarcinoma in a polyp and similar focus of endocervical adenocarcinoma in the subsequent hysterectomy specimen were noted. Presence of synchronous malignancies in the uterus is very rare and it being detected in a patient who presented with a non-related symptom of hairfall makes it an interesting case scenario.

Abstract Background: The emphasis on digital technology and informatics in health care (digital health) has introduced innovative ways to deliver health care and engage populations in health research. However, inadequate attention to the development and implementation of digital health interventions can exacerbate health disparities.
Purpose: We applied the transdisciplinary ConNECT Framework principles within the context of digital health, with an aim to describe strategies to achieve digital health equity.
Methods: We described the five ConNECT principles of (a) integrating context, (b) fostering a norm of inclusion, (c) ensuring equitable diffusion of innovations, (d) harnessing communication technology, and (e) prioritizing specialized training within the framework of achieving digital health equity.
Findings and discussion: We describe proactive, actionable strategies for the systematic application of the ConNECT Framework principles to address digital health equity. Recommendations to reduce the digital health divide in nursing research and practice are also described.

Abstract Aerosol‐induced snow darkening and its feedback on seasonal snow cover, snowmelt, and runoff were investigated using the Regional Climate Model (RegCM4.6) coupled with SNow, Ice, and Aerosol Radiation (SNICAR) and aerosol modules over the Himalayas during the melting season (March‐September). The snow albedo reduction due to the deposition of absorbing aerosols increases the 2 m air temperature (1.47°C) and thus decreases the snow cover (10.6%) over the Himalayas during spring. This aerosol‐induced excess warming accelerates the seasonal snowmelt (1.2 mm day⁻¹), which reduces the number of snow‐covered periods by more than 20 days throughout the Himalayas. The accumulated total snowmelt also increased by 41.3% over the Himalayas during the melting season. The early snowmelt and increase in runoff due to aerosol forcing have significant implications on rivers originating from the western Himalayas (Indus Basin). The change in snowmelt distribution and doubling of snowmelt extremes due to aerosol‐induced snow darkening could also translate to an increase in flood risks across the Himalayan river basins. Therefore, the present study highlights the importance of aerosol‐induced snow albedo forcing and its feedback on snowmelt and runoff over the Himalayan region, which has further implications on water availability over the South Asian region.

Abstract Familial medullary thyroid carcinoma (FMTC) is a variant of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2 (MEN2) associated with the RET gene mutation. We report a rare RET mutation of c.2671T>G; p.Ser891Ala in Exon 15 of the RET gene in an Indian pedigree where seven family members out of 14 screened were found to be positive for the same. RET genetic analysis should be considered as an early approach in the diagnosis of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) since it improves the prognosis and permits surveillance of other family members.

Abstract The present study was carried out with the objective of assessment of haematobiochemical and trichographic features of mucocutaneous lesions in dogs. Dogs presented with mucocutaneous lesions associated with various dermatological conditions were included in the study. Mange, atopic dermatitis, dermatophytosis, juvenile cellulitis, pyoderma and hypothyroidism with secondary Malassezia dermatitis were presented with mucocutaneous lesions in the perioral, periorbital and in the nostrils with least involvement of anogenital region. Haemato-biochemical analysis revealed anaemia, non-significant increase in total leucocyte count, neutrophilia, eosinophilia, elevated platelet count, hyperproteinaemia and hypoalbuminaemia. Elevated serum C-reactive protein was evident in all cases. Trichographic features revealed that highest number of hairs were included in the telogen phase of hair cycle with greater number of primary hairs. Hair fractures were evident in 20.8 per cent of hairs and trichoptilosis of hair tip was observed in 50.8 per cent of hairs studied. Demodex mites could be detected by hair pluck examination in all cases of demodicosis.
