Abstract Two-photon stereolithography (TPS) is widely used for the fabrication of various three-dimensional (3D) structures with sub-micron fabrication resolution in a single fabrication process. However, TPS is unsuitable for microstructures with fine-hole patterns. The laser ablation process can be easily drilled, or made holes in various materials. However, in the case of laser ablation, the focal plane of the laser is fixed, which is limited to the processing plane. In this study, a multidirectional ablation process is studied to apply laser ablation to various processing planes of a 3D microstructure fabricated by the TPS process. A 3D hybrid fabrication process with the advantages of both TPS and laser ablation is expected to improve the fabrication efficiency. The 3D hybrid process is proposed based on a single laser source. The microstructure is fabricated using TPS, and the multi-directional ablation process creates a hole in the lateral side of the 3D microstructure. To develop the multidirectional ablation process, the reflecting mirror system should be designed to adaptably rotate the laser focal plane and guide the laser path for the target process plane. Through various examples, we demonstrate the ability of the multi-directional ablation process with various examples.

Abstract Introduction: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is newly proposed nomenclature, and its diagnosis involves an algorithm that can be complicated and impractical for clinicians in real-world clinical settings. Thus, we investigated the association between MAFLD and modified triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) indices to find a more concise, feasible method for predicting MAFLD in everyday clinical care.
Methods: Data were obtained from people who voluntarily underwent health check-ups at the Health Promotion Centre of Gangnam Severance Hospital, Yonsei University College of Medicine, from January 2017 to October 2020. Four indices were analyzed: TyG-body to mass index (BMI), TyG-waist circumference (WC), TyG, and the fatty liver index (FLI). The odds ratios for MAFLD according to each index were calculated using multiple logistic regression analyses, and the receiver operating characteristics curve (ROC) and area under the ROC were obtained to find the predictive powers of each index.
Results: The final number of study participants was 22,391, 8,246 with MAFLD and 14,145 without MAFLD. The odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) from TyG-WC and TyG-BMI after adjusting for confounding variables were 12.484 (9.962-15.644) and 12.494 (9.790-15.946), respectively, for quartile 2, 54.332 (43.131-68.442) and 51.580 (40.495-65.699) for quartile 3, and 165.804 (130.243-211.076) and 128.592 (100.601-164.371) for quartile 4. The area under the ROC curve values for TyG-WC and TyG-BMI were 0.862 (0.857-0.867) and 0.867 (0.862-0.872), respectively.
Conclusion: The modified TyG indices are highly reliable markers for predicting MAFLD that clinicians can easily and practically apply in everyday, real-world, clinical care settings.

Abstract Background: Long-COVID is defined by persistent symptoms following COVID-19 infection. Approximately 71% of individuals with long-COVID experience ongoing fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and cognitive impairments, which share pathological similarities with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). This similarity has prompted studies to explore the characteristics of long-COVID to gain a better understanding of ME/CFS. To gain insights, we investigated the clinical and laboratory characteristics of individuals with fatigue-dominant long-COVID.
Methods: We enrolled 100 subjects (36 males, 64 females) with long-COVID who had a higher score than 60 in modified Korean version of the Chalder Fatigue Scale (mKCFQ11) and higher than 5 in fatigue-focused Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). To investigate fatigue symptoms, the mKCFQ11, the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20), and VAS for fatigue and brain-fog, along with the Short Form Survey (SF-12) were employed. We also measured three cytokines and cortisol levels for immunological and endocrinological indicators. As a cross-sectional observational study, the data were collected at a single point in time.
Results: The mean scores on the measurements showed severe fatigue, and these scores were significantly correlated, with no differences based on sex, the post-COVID period, or age. Among the laboratory tests, plasma cortisol levels had a significant negative correlation with fatigue scores and a positive correlation with living quality. The negative correlation between cortisol levels and mKCFQ11 scores appeared to be more specific to mental fatigue than physical, which conflicted with other measurements.
Conclusion: Our findings provide the first insights into the characteristics of fatigue in individuals with long-COVID, particularly in terms of fatigue severity and cortisol levels. These results serve as valuable reference data for clinicians dealing with fatigue symptoms in long-COVID patients and for researchers exploring post-viral fatigue symptoms, including ME/CFS, in the future.
