Abstract The mass attenuation coefficient of lead nitrate (Pb(NO3)2)-filled polycarbonate (PC) composite films were determined both computationally (using Baltakmen's and Thummel empirical formulae) and experimentally using 204Tl and 90Sr-90Y radio-isotopes for films at different filler levels 0, 5, 15, 25, 35 and 50 weight percent (Wt.%). In comparison with Thummel empirical formula, the values obtained from Baltakmen's empirical formula is in good agreement with the experiment. The percentage decrease of half value layer values were (52 ± 8) and (60 ± 10)% for 204Tl and 90Sr-90Y, on comparing the values for 0 and 50 Wt.% films, and so the prepared composite films shield the beta particles effectively. The PC that used to shield the low-energy beta particles of 90Sr-90Y can also moderate the higher energy beta particles; the plot of end point energy of 90Sr-90Y versus thickness of PC exhibits a decreasing trend, which confirms that PC acts as an electron moderator.

Abstract Background: Falls in elderly persons are one of the leading causes of death. Falls are responsible for 10-15% of all emergency department visits among elderly. The study was conducted to determine the prevalence of falls in rural areas and to assess the various socio-demographic factors associated with falls.
Methodology: It was a community-based, cross-sectional study conducted in Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Devarayanasamudra, Department of Community Medicine, among the elderly persons aged ≥ 60 years. The total sample size was 511, calculated using a previous study using OpenEpi software. The data were collected using a pretested semi-structured questionnaire. The period prevalence of falls was assessed by asking for history of falls in the past 12 months. Chi-square and regression analysis were performed with statistically significant
Results: Out of 511 elderly persons aged ≥60 years, females accounted for about 54.8% and most of them were of 60-69 years age-group. The majority of the study subjects were illiterates (77.3%), and most of them were married (77.2%). The prevalence of falls in elderly persons was 46.8%. The elderly aged ≥70 years, females, chronic diseases, and use of walking aid were observed to have a statistically significant association with falls (p < 0.005).
Conclusion: Elderly falls are very common. The primary healthcare providers in rural areas play an important role in prevention of falls in elderly. Caregivers, along with elderly, should be given more detailed health education related to fall prevention.

Abstract Numerous full-field numerical methods exist concerning the digital description of polycrystalline materials and the modeling of their evolution during thermomechanical treatments. However, these strategies are globally dedicated to the modeling of recrystallization and grain growth for single-phase materials, or to the modeling of phase transformations without considering recrystallization and related phenomena. A generalized numerical framework capable of making predictions in a multi-phase polycrystalline context while respecting the concomitance of the different microstructural mechanisms is thus of prime interest. A novel finite element level-set based full-field numerical formulation is proposed to principally simulate diffusive solid-solid phase transformation at the mesoscopic scale in the context of two-phase metallic alloys. A global kinetic framework, capable of accounting for other concomitant mechanisms such as recrystallization and grain growth is considered in this numerical model. The proposed numerical framework is shown to be promising through a couple of illustrative 1D and 2D test cases in the context of austenite decomposition in steels and compared with ThermoCalc estimations.

Abstract Anthracyclines are associated with cardiotoxic manifestations that are mainly dose-dependent, with onset varying from a few days to many years after stopping treatment. Frequent monitoring for toxic manifestations, early detection, cessation of anthracycline use and appropriate treatment is the key to preventing morbidity and mortality. Complete heart block with doxorubicin use in Hodgkin's lymphoma is rarely reported, and is a severe toxic manifestation necessitating withdrawal or changing of regimen to etoposide + bleomycin + vinblastine + dacarbazine (EBVD), as in this case.

Abstract An efficient metal-free, additive-free synthetic method was developed to access benzooxepino-fused pyrrole derivatives from alkynyl substituted aziridines. In this organic transformation, two new C-C bonds were formed via initial cleavage of C-C bond of aziridine ring by in situ generated azomethine ylides. Moderate to excellent yields of benzooxepino-fused pyrroles were obtained atom economically in the presence of t-BuOH in one-pot.

Abstract Quinolines are an interesting class of moieties with various medicinal chemistry uses. The most prominent is their ability to be used as the last line of therapy for bacterial and viral infections including recent COVID-19. The synthesis of quinoline is through a cyclization reaction and overall reaction yields are about 20%. The bulky ring and the associated crowding of functional groups limit the catalyst options. In this publication, the use of Fe

Abstract Background/objectives: Palmoplantar psoriasis is a localised variant of psoriasis. Topical therapy is the preferred treatment modality, but in severe and recalcitrant cases, systemic drugs like methotrexate are prescribed, with potential for significant adverse effects. Iontophoresis is gaining popularity in enhancing the transdermal delivery of drugs in ionic state. This study was undertaken to evaluate and compare the efficacy of topical methotrexate by iontophoresis technique with clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment in the treatment of palmar psoriasis.
Methods: This was a prospective randomised controlled study conducted on patients with palmar psoriasis. Group 1 patients (n = 31) were treated with once weekly iontophoretic delivery of methotrexate over 6 sittings, and group 2 patients (n = 31) were treated with clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment, twice daily for 6 weeks. Severity of palmar psoriasis was assessed by modified Palmoplantar Pustular Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (m-PPPASI), and treatment was considered as satisfactory when there was >50% improvement.
Results: Sixty two patients were recruited, of which 50 completed the study. Eight out of 25 (32%) patients in group 1 and 12 out of 25 (48%) patients in group 2 showed satisfactory improvement at the end of 6 weeks. However, this difference was statistically not significant (P = 0.25). Burn injury was noted in 12 (48%) group 1 patients with no adverse effects in group 2.
Conclusion: Iontophoretic delivery of methotrexate is a promising therapeutic modality, the efficacy of which is comparable to that of clobetasol propionate ointment in the treatment of palmar psoriasis.

Abstract The largest group of migrants in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are lower-skilled migrant workers. GCC countries have witnessed significant healthcare infrastructure investments over recent decades. Despite this, they are lagging to mainstream the mental health needs of lower-skilled migrants into national health policy frameworks. Qatar is one of the GCC countries where lower-skilled migrants constitute 50 per cent of population. In this article,we provide an overview of the development of specialist mental health service for lower-skilled migrants' and discuss the challenges, and measures taken by the State of Qatar to mainstream their health needs into national health policy framework.

Abstract Background: To improve production efficiency, positive alleles corresponding to yield-related attributes must be accumulated in a single elite background. We designed and used cgSSR markers, which are superior to random SSR markers in genome-wide association study, to identify genomic regions that contribute to panicle characters and grain yield in this study.
Results: As evidenced by the high polymorphic information content value and gene diversity coefficient, the new cgSSR markers were determined to be highly informative. These cgSSR markers were employed to generate genotype data for an association panel evaluated for four panicle characters and grain yield over three seasons. For five traits, 17 significant marker-trait associations on six chromosomes were discovered. The percentage of phenotypic variance that could be explained ranged from 4% to 13%. Unrelated gene-derived markers had a strong association with target traits as well.
Conclusion: Trait-associated cgSSR markers derived from corresponding or related genes ensure their utility in direct allele selection, while other linked markers aid in allele selection indirectly by altering the phenotype of interest. Through a marker-assisted breeding approach, these marker-trait associations can be leveraged to accumulate favourable alleles for yield enhancement in rice. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.
